Vanity Fair: One Nation, Under Arms - The Military Industrial Complex in the USA

A great piece here sent to me from a friend who knows I'm Ron Paul fan.

Todd Purdham's writing in Vanity Fair about the Military Industrial complex and the Secret Industry in the post- Cold War era, and how it is so important to some states, that happen to vote Republican.

One Nation, Under Arms
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/01/Todd-Purdum-on-Na...

"The private papers of the late George F. Kennan, Cold War architect and diplomat extraordinaire, reveal his anguish over the way his famous 1947 warning about Soviet expansionism helped transform the America he loved into one he no longer recognized: a national-security state. A half-century after a similarly historic warning—President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s speech about the dangers of a powerful “military-industrial complex”—Todd S. Purdum shows how completely Kennan’s and Eisenhower’s worst fears have been realized, warping almost every aspect of society, deflecting attention from urgent problems, and splitting the country into two classes"

these private papers speak of a different time...

a time when America, and Americans, were free from the secrecy of tyranny and its stranglehold on everyday people

he, kennan, said we can not get "our" America back

i say we have one more chance, just one more chance

The most disheartening part

The most disheartening part of this article, in my opinion, is of the subsequent focus, of the average American who will be spoon-fed this article, on the statements made that "we are beyond the point of no return," "we cannot turn this around." They will focus on the millions of potential jobs lost, and be unwilling to allow those jobs to be lost, due to their inability to see where those who would have lost their jobs, will then find new jobs.

There is

There is a way to turn this around, the first of which is to return power to the states. 50 individual countries is much harder to manipulate than one centralized nation.

Freeing up individuals to take their own action. Free up the laws binding enterprise. If states have to depend upon trade and industry to fill their coffers, the states will take action.

The average salary is roughly $39,000. Not hard to make that as an individual owner of a business. We've become lazy expecting a few companies to employ many where many can employ just one and the unemployment rate will come down.

There is virtually no competition in the US. Those companies like Nike, GM, Microsoft, Apple all started on a shoe string. Then they monompolized and put the average business man out of business.

We expect big banks and big companies to provide dividends for old age or whatever, never thinking that $1000 a year invested in a local business or credit union would not only be safer but out of the reach of WS manipulation.

Great post and I seriously

Great post and I seriously urge you to expand it a bit to make into an article!

It is excellent, and

It is excellent, and interesting, but too long and dry for me. Too bad, though, the old geezer did not know Ron. Then, like us, he could have had some hope for the future..

Why is there a 500 internal

Why is there a 500 internal server error? Did they take it down?

500 error

According to http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html , it's just a temporary server error. It just worked for me; maybe try again? Assuming, of course, we're talking about the same link here.

Freedom is my Worship Word!

If America was not the most

If America was not the most powerful military power in the world and a much more powerful nations said we are going to destroy your country, would we not do what we could to protect our people and country? It seems many American don't know that the majority of Iranians speak Persian instead for Arabic like the Saudis do. Arabic is the language of Islam. Why was there no response from our government officials since 15 of the suspected 19 terrorist were from Saudi Arabia? Even the majority of American citizens never spoke out.Islam in Arabic means submission. Both to Allah and for women to submit to the authority of their husbands.one of the most disconcerting aspects of Islam is its treatment of women. In Saudi Arabia women have few rights.

Bob Marshall

Bachmann

Bachmann should, if she doesn't, know this and she uses the terminology to base her campaign. And the younger people wonder just how we got into the mess?

This article could not come at a better time.

Of the many reasons I absolutely despise George H. W. Bush, that which I despise most is Bush's trick to get us irrevocably involved in the Middle East; that, being, using the diplomatic corps to trick Saddam Hussein into invading Kuwait. Clinton and the two Bushes squandered the "Cold War Peace Dividend" and have put in motion policies that will precipitate WWIII under anyone but Ron Paul.

WOW. Amazing article.

Almost no one alive today has a mature, firsthand memory of a country that used to be very different—that was not a superpower; that did not shroud the workings of its government in secrecy; that did not use ends-justify-the-means logic to erode rights and liberties; that did not undertake protracted wars on the president’s say-so; that had not forgotten how to invest in urgent needs at home; that did not trumpet its greatness even as its shortcomings became more obvious. An American today who is 25 or 50 or even 75—such a person has lived entirely in the America we have become.

Just a sample paragraph to entice more readers and commentary here.

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

Pretty

Pretty much it was then as it is now and one can see how the bomb, bomb, campaigns are working out.

In the 50's and 60's, we knew some, but in school one had to read a lot of books. That meant a library and many hours.

Today, it is search engines that do the for us. The young have a much better tool to do something than we did.
