Want to hit Fox another way?

0 votes

I saw this on another forum and figured as I haven't seen mention of it here yet, I'd post it up for your reading pleasure.

The FCC renews affiliate licenses annually and reviews a FCC Public File held at each affiliate by law. Included in this public file are comments and complaints by us, the viewers. When was the last time you complained to the FCC that a broadcaster wasn't acting in the public interest?

Do you want Fox to stop broadcasting their version of the news? Let the FCC know. Lets see how a few hundred thousand complaints or more work.

Wake UP..........Hello

Give this a BREAK !!!
Forget getting even... The clock is ticking, and very quickly I might add
Canvass, donate, STOP all this other nonsense ! And why not?

GOD BLESS US ALL

this is the FCC (ie: a govt department's job)?!?!?

Yes, Fox is "wrong".

But since when are we in favor of the gov't being there to make all the wrong things right and put smiles on everyones faces?

A boycott is the moral way to handle the situation.

No, as I said below

But people are so-used to government-force it's their first resort whenever they see something wrong. Look folks. Faus is FAR from the only news network with a bias-problem. It feels stupid having to point that out, with Olberloon one click away on my cable system.

Don't like what they're doing? Boycott sponsors, and tell them WHY you're boycotting in both an email (instant response) and a snail letter (proof you're serious). If enough of us do that, they'll listen. Evan is totally right, a boycott is the ONLY moral way to handle the situation. Not only that, the FCC should not exist. Spectrum is property, and property-rights in electromagnetic spectrum should be handled by the courts, not some censorious bureaucracy. Hell, courts are bad-enough...

Let's stop this...

Can we please refocus our efforts to getting Dr. Paul elected! Emailing the FCC will not achieve this most important goal.

Donating money to the campaign today will help and most importantly
- canvassing door to door
- leaving www.manofcommonsense.com flyers on car windsheilds/door knobs
- making phone calls
- signing up to become precinct leaders will.

I repeat, sitting in front of a computer screen, commenting on whether or not we should email the FCC will not result in a win for the good doctor.

Instead of calling or emailing the FCC, call a friend of neighbor, ask your meetup group for a phone list of voters and spread Ron Paul's message of freedom. That single phone call can have a prairie fire effect. Being angry at FOX surely won't.

Let's get off our asses (myself included) , put our money where are mouths are, and actively spend our energy in positive ways that will ensure victory...

Spat out

Yeah. The MSM chewed Kunnich up when he complained about censoring and exclusion. It went to court but he lost. That was the end of any coverage after that. I will think of all you canvassors and precinct leaders at the front line.
Good luck out there &Thank you. It's appreciated.

'I always thank of all you canvassors and precinct leaders and delegates who were at the front line and caucuses.
Good luck out there &Thank you. You're a gift.

I'll agree with you, complaining won't get Dr. Paul elected.

Emailing complaints to the local affiliates to be included in the FCC Public File probably won't do much. But it will allow you voice to be heard and recorded.

As for being angry, yeah, I suppose you're right. Why should we put any effort into taking fox down? It's not like they support an agenda that's contrary to our interests. With our money, against our will, and without the knowledge of the bulk of Americans. Yeah, I suppose you're right...nothing to be mad with there.

Please read my post...

Of course we should be angry with FOX. But voicing our complaints to a federal bureaucracy, which we should be opposed to in the first place, isn't going to get Ron Paul elected, and that should be our primary goal now.

I'm just trying to put the current situation into perspective. Time is short and we need to refocus our energy on spreading the message of freedom to fellow citizens—not filing complaints with the FCC with hopes that it will "take fox down." I don't think we disagree.

There is nothing wrong...

There is nothing wrong with fighting from every end. We should do all we can in every aspect to fight this government.

We need a RP lawyer!

FCC won't do anything about FOX...I've already complained and received a response that said they only deal with nudity/vulgar language.

I am calling the corporate offices

of Whataburger and Taco Bell to inform them they are funding the subversion of our political process and of My intention to work for a boycott if my candidate is not on the forum. And if my candidate is excluded I will eat rat turds before I ever buy their crap again.

Taco Bell isn't good for you anyway.

Be healthy! Boycott Taco Bell for freedom!

Fox

Lotsa angles on this, but the main theme is that if it causes Fox anguish, it must be good. Think about how many people have died because of that war propaganda rubbish.

FCC: The airwaves are public property. Anyone that broadcasts over those airwaves comes under the jurisdiction of the FCC. As a citizen, those are the the PUBLICLY OWNED Airwaves, and if Fox offends you, fire away at the FCC.

FYI: The Chairman of the FCC, Kevin Martin, is bought and paid for by media corps, so don't expect much. But if the press got word the FCC got 20,000 emails about Fox News, that would affect News Corp stock.

America is sick, call a doctor! Dr. Ron Paul.

Mr. Martin is paid for by big media...

And you're right, I think it'd be a cold day in hell before the FCC under his leadership refused to renew a broadcast license for any big network affiliate. That, however, will not stop me from filing my complaint.

Great idea to prevent FUTURE censorship

The FCC consurmer grievance process is not used very often. Even if Faux receives little or no penalty for this offense, they will see that RP supporters are serious about notifying the FCC.

It will be painful for Faux to receive hundreds of FCC complaints. They will know that a future censorship issue against RP will also be sent to the FCC. This can not be a good thing for their reputation. It will confirm that they are a bias network. A fact that they have tried to surpress with their "fair and balanced" mantra.

Use the recommended FCC key phrases when you send the complaint
"FCC Public File"
"Not acting in the public interest"
"Equal Time Rule"
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=67697

is this a joke?

"Do you want Fox to stop broadcasting their version of the news? Let the FCC know. Lets see how a few hundred thousand complaints or more work."

aren't we philosophically against using the gov't to do (via regulation) what should be done via the free market (lack of demand/boycott)??????

No, it's not a joke.

If you don't think what Fox is doing is wrong, then don't complain, that's your right.

This is striking a nerve I guess. Good!

uh...

I never said what they're doing isn't "wrong"... just that running to the gov't to fix all wrongs (not solely those "wrongs" that include the initiation of force) is completely against what most of us (Dr. Paul included) are fighting for.

If it seems like you're hitting a nerve it's because most of us who are serious about Dr. Paul in specific, and small gov't Republicanism/libertarianism in general, are frustrated with people who ignore this aim and actually compromise it due to some hard-on for Fox news... to the point where they get sooooo blinded by "teaching Fox a lesson" that they encourage MORE use of the immoral tools they used to be against (gov't regulation).

Boycotting Advertisers is Best

I think the poster is correct in suggesting the affiliates are in a weaker position than News Corp. The reason, they choose to be a Fox affiliate, they could switch. This may be worth a try to see if the affiliates will complain to News Corp and Fox News, however nothings sings louder than the sound of money leaving the company. Boycotting advertisers is best.

Unfortunately going after the affiliates to stop Fox from broadcasting their version of the news most likely would be like hitting mercury with a hammer. If one affiliate dropped off, another competing station would most likely take it place, and we would have to start the whole process over again.

However, anyone looking for fuel for the fire can go to these websites that watch Fox News so you don't have to. newshounds.us, mediamatters, org, and FoxAttacks.com It really is amazing what dirty pool they actually play.

I agree that boycotting the advertisers is best.

And this is just another tool we have at our disposal.

As for other affiliates or networks doing the same, well, they are required to play by the same rules. If they are not acting in the public interest, then file a complaint with them too.

Good idea on the surface, but...

...The FCC is one of many federal agencies we'd all like to see OOB (out of business). We'd be making the mistake (as has been made over 200 years that got us into this mess in America to start with) of using government power to achieve our goals. Heck, I just read an article about $50 million plus of our tax dollars going towards educating people on the switch to DTV in Feb. 2009. A switch, mind you, that was forced upon us by the FCC, not done by free market forces (although we would have probably wanted to transition to DTV and HDTV anyway, but on our own terms, and it probably would have been a lot smoother, etc.).

The FCC should indeed be out of business

Spectrum is a property rights issue, and we see in this thread the danger of ANY means to repress free speech. I may disagree with Fox's biased decision, but their station is THEIR property. Not ours, and not the FCC's.

More than a surface idea...

So you'd advocate refraining from using any of the government agencies we should eliminate? I disagree. The rules are in place to protect the public from exactly what we are being exposed to now. To not file a complaint is to condone their broadcast behavior.

Can you imagine what would happen if they (old media) were completely unrestrained?

Yeah.

I imagine the stock price would fall even-faster when they're proven to be biased liars. Principle demands that we don't use speech suppression weapons of big government which should not exist, unless we want them used against us. Would this fly in court if spectrum were a private property right, instead of socialistically owned? I think not, and we need to get to that place with our principles intact.

Whenever you go to a bar or health club and Fox is on

Ask them to change the channel.

Ouch, good one

Ouch, good one, will do!

This Fox thing is stupid people

My question is how can any rational person not understand that if Ron Paul defeats any frontrunner candidate in Iowa he will have to be included in Fox's news debate?

The latest Des Moines register newspaper poll shows Ron polling at 9%.

Giuliani polls at 5%
Thompson polls at 9%
McCain polls at 13%

Do you guys seriously believe if Ron Paul beats any of these candidates (or in my opinion, all three are beatable), Fox News will not be forced to include Ron Paul in their debate?

A voting WIN trumps any POLL out there by a large margin. Just as its starting to make news with other media that Ron Paul is excluded, can you imagine the media pressure on Fox if Ron Paul beats 2-3 "top tier" candidates and still isn't let in to debate?

Fox news may be a a little bit stupid, but they aren't complete morons to have all the media, AND republicans, AND New Hampshirians against them should Ron Paul perform that well in the Iowa Caucus.

I am absolutely opposed to this kind of thinking

philisophically i think that there should be almost no regulations of this kind in place... i will have no part in this.

"Trade with all nations, alliance with none, should be our policy"

-Thomas Jefferson

"Trade with all nations, alliance with none, should be our policy"

-Thomas Jefferson

What regulations? We're

What regulations? We're exercising our rights as consumers.
