***H.R. 383 Universal Service Act of 2007 - DRAFT AGES ARE 18-42 MALE and FEMALE!!***

IF we DON'T GET RON PAUL INTO OFFICE another thing we can look forward to is more pre-emptive WAR - With our military aleady stretched to thin, the new draft bill says that in a STATE OF EMERGENCY that women and men between the ages of 18 and 42 can be drafted with no deferments after age 20.

apparent error in bill number

Correct me if I'm wrong but I googled HR 383 and the name of that bill is "H.R. 383: HUBZone Improvement Act of 2007" per GovTrack.us.

Per the same website, the referenced bill is "H.R. 393: Universal National Service Act of 2007".

Thought it would be better if we express our opposition to the right bill.... :-) (Though of course it is likely that opposition to nearly any bill would be well-founded :-)

The same bill in the previous two sessions was killed. Apparently it made it to the House the first year because the site indicated that it failed the House due to bipartisan opposition.

That won't stop "them" from trying over and over again, though.

Currently the bill is "in committee".

Thanks for the heads-up! Sorry to nit-pick.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

Im Not Scared.

This bill is a year old and no-one seems to have taken it seriously. This clause makes it completely impotent:

SEC. 109. CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION.
(a) Claims as Conscientious Objector- Nothing in this title shall be construed to require a person to be subject to combatant training and service in the uniformed services, if that person, by reason of sincerely held moral, ethical, or religious beliefs, is conscientiously opposed to participation in war in any form.

Please people, dont lose sleep over this bill. I think ol' charlie rangel was probably playing devils advocate on this one.

You have to show a history of being

a conscientious objector by belonging to certain religions, groups, writings, etc over many years. I'm not an expert on this but I remember reading somewhere that many anti-war parents begin creating a history of pacifism for their child as soon as it is born. Just showing up to the draft board and saying you are a conscientious objector won't work.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

I don't have to show a

I don't have to show a history of anything. I'll simply burn my draft card, like they did in 'Nam, and be put in a cage. The day will never come that I pick up a rifle to fight an illegal, unconstitutional, undeclared war. If I did, I would be endorsing the shredding of the Constitution and the betrayal of the Founding Fathers.

I intend to do the same with my "Slave ID" when it comes. And when they hold me down and tattoo a bar code onto my arm (it's coming, maybe not in my lifetime, but it's coming), I'll cut away the flesh. And when they implant a chip inside me, I'll root it out. I am one of 300 million sovereign leaders of a servant government. No amount of corruption on their part will ever reverse those roles.

"The use of 'Conspiracy Theorist' or 'Truther' as a derogatory -- as an epithet almost -- is something the propagandists have perfected over the decades, and it's a useful tool for eliminating articulate dissent."

I have to comment on this....

I've read what everyone is saying...and here's my 2 cents...
1- some are saying this isn't a law so we shouldn't worry about it...I say, oh yes we should...every stupid law we have started somewhere. Let's nip this NOW.
2- The American public would never let this pass..they'd storm the White House...I say, oh yeah? Where were we when the Patriot Act got passed?
3- The wealthy would never risk the chance of their kids getting drafted...I say, oh..so they can corrupt a government, major media, and so many other things...but controlling a draft is too hard for them?

I am a 36 year old female....means I might get drafted.
I have a 21 year old stepson...off he goes
I have a 16 year old son..think this war on terror will be over in 2-3 years?
I have a 10 year old daughter...how about in 8-9 years?
I have a 9 year old son....

I just can't take this chance on this stupid bill becoming a law...Hillary already said she's for it...right outta her mouth during a debate. YouTube it...she said it.

I understand that I have to be willing to sacrifice my child for my country..and if this was a "just" war I'd find a way to live with that...but this is not a "just" war.... and it's a war that has no end. I can't just hope that this bill was "just to make a point". I can't! For the love of God I hope that you can't either.

"I understand that I have to

"I understand that I have to be willing to sacrifice my child for my country"

No, you do not.

1) Your child is not "yours" to sacrifice. If he/she wants to sacrifice themselves, that's their decision.

2) You should be willing to sacrifice yourself for what you believe in. If you don't believe in whatever war your nation is engaged in, you are not obligated to support it, much less die for it.

We need to lose this "die for your country" mentality. To die for freedom is one thing, but it is an entirely different thing.

NOT H.R. 383

H.R. 383 is a revision of the Small Business Act. You are referring to H.R 393. The bill is called "The Universal National Service Act". Read the bill. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.393:

It has not yet been voted on.

Look on the bright side it makes permanent a tax credit for combat pay! Yippee

I'm ready...as soon as every able-bodied family member of every government official has been issued boots and a rifle. I'll be right behind them! And since We The People are the sovereigns in this country, any deferments claimed by those family members will have to be approved by me personally, or by a neutral watchdog organization approved by me.

Likewise with global warming. When Al Gore and every other member of the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming have cut their lifestyles down to my level, I'll begin curtailing mine.

And those are promises! ;-)

HR393 was proposed but I don't think it passed. (Or has passed yet.) Better make sure it passed before you become alarmed.

Please write a letter to the editor about this...you may even be able to get Ron Paul in there too... This is my humble letter FYI...Any suggestions/comments before I send it off?

"For any you out there who have not yet decided on a candidate to vote for, here’s some food for thought. Right now members of our government are trying to pass “H.R. 383 Universal Service Act of 2007.” This bill would “require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service” - men and women – and yes, that’s the draft. If you’re worried, as I am, contact your local representative in government and let them know that you oppose this bill. Furthermore, in the next elections, vote Ron Paul. He is the ONLY major republican to oppose the Iraq and future wars. How would you like our government to launch another Iraq and have YOU drafted into THEIR war. Think the democrats are the only safe option? Think again. A democrat helped sponsor this very bill!

Please express your outrage over this bill and don’t forget to vote Ron Paul. He’s the only candidate totally opposed to war and to global intervention."

who sponsored this?

who are the people sponsored this bill? and what actions should we take to prevent this?

Apparently as satire.

I don't want to go back!

I feel totally lied to and taken advantage of. I joined the Marines in 2003 right when we were 'declaring' war, looking for direction in my life and traying to kick some terrorist ass. The Drill Instructor told us the second day that we just gone to war. We thought it was part of the mind games but he was for real.

Turns out - yeah we got Saddam but he didn't hit the towers, we're ignoring Bin Laden, and we're really fighting for our oil interests. I was lied to and so were you. I was used as an agent of the govt to protect corporate interests and fuel the military industrial complex. i fixed hummers, i made 14k a year. the people serving us food in the chow hall made 4 times more money than me, easily.

i got my DD-214 march 07. I'm biting my nails until March 2010, when my military contract is totally complete (im still on inactive reserve). I fixed trucks in Iraq - didn't do anything really dangerous there though, I was lucky to pull that job in the lottery (i went in open contract, basically letting the Marines choose where they needed my skillset the most). That doesnt mean i dont feel cheated, taken advantage of, used, lied to, and basically pissed off.

I really really really really don't want to be drafted.

The Marine Corps, on the other hand, is an awesome outfit. I had the best time there, and all the people were great. Our bad apples were still good people, and i did things, met people and saw places that i never would have gotten the chance to without the Marines. I learned a lot about leading, following and i got a whole ton of discipline. I learned a lot about what responsibility and accountability really mean - I was personally in charge of 5 million dollars worth of equipment and weaponry in an active warzone! that was the scariest part of being in iraq - being afraid of losing something expensive :)

basically, the Marines kick ass and i love being a Marine, but the way this whole undeclared war was run has left me totally pissed. i choke up when i think about how misused i was. i do not support the war, but i support the military.

EDIT: i read a few comments below and i have the following to add:

The stop loss is effectively a draft for current and former military. the jobs with the highest demand are, of course, being screwed the worst, which is a deterrent for those entering those feilds or re-enlisting. arabic translators and those types of jobs - the ones that take the longest to train, and the clearances are expensive too. The military is effectively mortgaging thier future - the high quality and high demand inividuals are being handled poorly and aren't re-enlisting, which leaves a void to be filled by less qualified individuals. same thing on the officer side, so many grads of the military colleges are leaving after thier obligated service is complete that the army has a huge deficit of captains. people are leaving.

the use of the stop losses and extensions is basically a breach of trust with the military members as well - yeah you know you're really signing for 8 years, but you are prety well assured that you are only going to do 4 active.

as far as drafting people - please don't. the quality of our armed services today is a result of an "all volunteer force." i have to put that into quotes because it isn't entirely true anymore. a lot of poeple volunteered at first but are now being screwed. if poeple stat getting drafted you end up with reluctant, pissed off people who don't want to be there covering your back in a firefight or some other crap like that. a draft would be a recipe for trouble and a dumb quick fix.

instead, why don't we take all our troops from all over the world and consolidate what we have! we have millions of troops. 150k in iraq is stressing us to the limit because we are so overextended all over the globe.

Bin Laden is Dead

Bhutto said in a interview with David Frost back in November.

bin Laden's been dead

Supposedly, he died from kidney failure in Pakistan shortly after 9/11. It was in a couple foreign obituaries. Our government paid for his hospitalization in Pakistan. And I guess carrying around two dialysis machines wasn't conducive to living in a cave and he died. Bhutto says he was murdered but I think he died of natural causes (kidney failure). Anyway, there seems to be some dispute over the actual time he died, of what malady, and where.

It never ceases to amaze me how this administration hauls him back out on videos to maintain he's still a threat. Even Ron Paul doesn't mention that he's dead. Maybe he doesn't know.

http://www.nationalreview.com/ledeen/ledeen200601090808.asp

"And, according to Iranians I trust, Osama bin Laden finally departed this world in mid-December. The al Qaeda leader died of kidney failure and was buried in Iran, where he had spent most of his time since the destruction of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Iranians who reported this note that this year's message in conjunction with the Muslim Haj came from his number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, for the first time."

http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osama_dead.html

"Osama bin Laden is dead. The news first came from sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan almost six months ago: the fugitive died in December [2001] and was buried in the mountains of southeast Afghanistan. Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, echoed the information. The remnants of Osama's gang, however, have mostly stayed silent, either to keep Osama's ghost alive or because they have no means of communication."

There are other quotes on this page regarding same.

When though?

The Ledeen article indicates he died in December 2005 and the other in 2001. I think it's possible but two wildly different dates like that?

This is how it should be...

If there is to be a system for conscription then it should be gender equal and very stringent on deferments.

I do think that conscription should only be legal in time of declared war.

What the public misses about how the military works today is that there has been a draft since 2001.

Two things: The IRR and Stop-Loss.

IRR: In-Active Ready Reserve. Military personnel who have completed their active obligation and been discharged, but have not served at least 8 years, are placed in the IRR for the duration. I believe close to 100,000 people have been recalled from the IRR since 2001 (1 in 10 returning to active duty). Commissioned Officers stay in the IRR until 54 unless they have served 8 years and resign their federal commission.

Stop-Loss: Basically, it allows for military personnel in key units or jobs to be denied separation from the military at the end of their enlistments. This include 20 year retirees.

Just something for everyone to think about when you rail against the draft and talk about how your kids will never serve in a draft...

At least those here opposed to the draft are opposed to the war. Nothing makes me more angry than hearing the wealthy neocons around where I live talk about how we need to fight this war, and then say they would never let their kids serve. NWMK mentality...Fight a war but "Not With My Kid"

A great book about the wealthy and military service "AWOL: The unexcused absence of the upper class from military service"

No - this is how it should really be

The draft, any draft for any purpose, is slavery and a flat out denial of the most fundamental right anyone can have - the right to their own life. If, as the Declaration of Independance says, it is government's function to secure our rights such security is blatantly violated by a draft which is nothing less than government claiming ownership of the draftee's life. Hence, the draftee's life is no longer their own. They are a slave.

It is irrelevant if it is instituted pursuant to a declared war. Once a draft is enacted that government is engaged in massive involuntary servitude and false imprisonment which is itself criminal behavior. The fact a declared war exists does not excuse such criminal behavior.

Practically, if the citizenry refuses to participate in the military, even in a declared war, the people are telling the government they see no need for that war. If a country is in dire threat or subject to foreign invasion it would not need a draft because you wouldn't be able to find the end of the line to join up.

No draft ever!! It is the quintessential symbol of the slave state.

Bill Today/Law Tomorrow

Think of the PNAC *list* of must-do liberty robbing legislation that has just slipped in. This is part of the big plan and should be fought everyway possible now. In fact, perhaps there should be a laundry list sent to every politician running saying as I consider who I am voting for I need to know absolutely for certain that you will never vote for these bills that are introduced every year and that you will defend the constitution.

There's simply no way this is going to pass. If passed, people would storm the White House lawn!
