Urgent Advertising Strategy.

I was watching CNN's Hour Special called "Campaign Killers." As I was watching the special, I caught my on on this production company that worked for Ralph Nader spread the message in 2000 and helped Ventura win his election in Minnesota. So I contacted them and this is what I wrote to them:

The company is called Northwoods Ads

To whom it may concern,

After watching CNN's special on political ads, I was compelled to contact this company. I'm a student at City College of New York, studying film production and political science. I've interned for the Executive Producers of the hit documentary "SuperSize Me." Joseph Morley and Heather Winters are owners of the two-in-one company called CBC. CBC is a corporate communications company that produces video, film, and live events for business clients, and a feature documentary film production company (Studio-On-Hudson) that produced "SuperSize Me." I've always had a fascination for film, politics, and marketing. I believe people like you and me witness politics on a unique level than the average audience.

After following the presidential campaigns amongst republicans and democrats for some time now, and being apart of the Ron Paul movement, I couldn't help but to want to do something that would level the playing field for my candidate. Now before this idea is thrown out, I want you to consider helping the Ron Paul campaign with ads that spread the message of freedom. Upon considering this, I want this company to do research on the grassroots movement that support Ron Paul. Now, you've recently heard that Ron Paul broke all fund raising records by raising an astounding $6.04 million in 24-hours on December 16th, the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. Over 58,000 supporters donated an average of just $102 to the Ron Paul web site. 25,000 of those supporters were first time donors. When this broke into mainstream headlines, the nation recognized Ron Paul supporters of being apart of the new "American Revolution." Then you also heard that grassroots efforts helped launch the first presidential blimp in US history. Ron Paul is the most searched presidential candidate on the Internet. He has more youtube views on his content than any other candidate. His meet up groups all across the nation tallies at over 8,000 constantly working to help spread Ron Paul's message. This grassroots movement is far more powerful and efficient than any other candidate's grassroots efforts. Now, me as one of these supporters in the same effort, is contacting you because it not only benefits us, but your company.

I ask you to consider advertising for us (outside the Ron Paul campaign since I'm not officially working for them) because if you do your research, the Ron Paul Campaign and our efforts have proven time and time again the internet can be a deadly force. We can spread the message to millions of internet users. Consider tapping into these resources. Consider being apart a vast movement where true grassroots efforts have broken all of mainstream media's expectations of our Candidate Dr. Ron Paul (the only anti-war Republican candidate running for the nomination). It would only benefit both parties, because while we are trying to to spread the message, you know a lot of people are going to have positive feedback. Help Ron Paul get one step closer to the nomination.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

THEIR RESPONSE WAS:

Salah-- Thank you for your interest in our company.

We have reached out repeatedly to the Ron Paul campaign (specifically his communications director, Jesse Benton, and his campaign manager, Lew Moore) and have received no response whatsoever.

For all the online success of campaigns like Ron Paul's and Howard Dean's, effective political campaigning today requires a combination of innovative online communications with creative, breakthrough mass media communications. We have had success with both.

Obviously, we do not (nor can we afford to) do campaign ads and pay for them out of our own pocket. We would be interested in helping Ron Paul get his message out and become truly competitive in the Republican primary, but no one in the campaign hierarchy seems interested in our expertise.

Perhaps you and others can change that by calling (703/248-9115) or writing the campaign or putting pressure on them online. At present, we can't get a phone call returned. And time has gotten very short for Rep. Paul to prove his viability. It's likely he will be shut out of the upcoming New Hampshire debates because of poor poll numbers.

I AM WILLING TO HELP FUND THIS...

Perhaps a website can be set up for accepting monies to fund them- I have seen those smaller donation blurbs set up for other organizations LIKE CALLERS FOR RON PAUL or some such name and I contributed to them... also Austin, Tx had a blimb for Ron Paul which I funded etc. etc. etc....
Someone keep me on a list and let me know.... I am getting a little frustrated with Ron Paul's campaign people... I am sure they have good intentions, but I am not seeing what they are doing...

Also I am more for spending BIG BUCKS on infomercials vs smaller 30 second spots.... Ron Paul *does* need more time to explain his views...
We need to move in a different direction from all the other candidates to do something more unique and vital to the campaign...
AND IT APPEARS TO ME THAT JESSIE BENTON IS NOT BEING VERY RECEPTIVE TO ANY SUGGESTIONS.... and should at least return phone calls is not good...

Professional ad would Spin Paul for the masses

Most americans don't research issue for themselves. When Dr Paul talks about pulling troops and closing 700 bases overseas mindless masses hear "he's gonna cripple our military" an add that focuses on the weakened strength of our military as we now are extended over millions of square miles and running our equipment into the ground would be more effective. Then talk about the billions its costing us, how bringing everyone home would make us stronger and give more money for better equipment.
Just $.02 from a vet for Dr Paul

"The paid for by" disclaimer

"The paid for by" disclaimer could be "Paid for by thousands of internet supporters for Ron Paul"

We should roll with this

We should get a proposal, hold a money bomb to run the completed ad. I know door to door talks were traditionally grassroots bread and butter. But it seems we can get organized enough to run primetime advertisements that will have a major impact.

Superbowl sunday would be great

Reach 100 million 2 days before Feb 5th !!! That is definately worth a money bomb

Not urgent, not needed

We're already more than doubling our support each quarter, at practically no cost to the campaign. I don't see how a PR firm is going to do anything but undermine what has been so hugely successful.

rdw

Very Expensive Firm

This firm was involved with the Kinky Friedman for Governor campaign. They do innovative work. They are hugely expensive. You probably can find information about payments made by the Friedman campaign to this firm and their associates. One can assume the billings to the Ron Paul campaign would involve a committment well into seven figures, for starters.

That the Ron Paul campaign hasn't contacted them shouldn't surprise or worry anyone. The Ron Paul campaign undoubtedly receives many queries from firms attempting to drum up some business.

Common sense

Copying here what Fringenot wrote below as it is makes a lot of sense

Fringenot wrote:

"Have this company give us a proposal, then WE fund it like other ads that have been pushed by groups or individuals.

Start with one small, simple ad concept, if it works and is successfully funded by RP supporters, then increase the stakes with larger projects.

If these guys are really the experts, then they should suggest what to do as the first project. The proposal cost would be their low risk entry, the funding would be our risk. The criteria shold be broad and simple. Something like
"Give us the best (bang-for-the-buck) ad that will get people to VOTE for Ron Paul"

Funding should follow the successful models used by the Blimp, TeaParty, and Nov5. Use a web page, pick a date and $ projection, show the intended goal of the project, allow users to contribute money on the site, spread the word with YouTube, LiveLeak, Myspace, DailyPaul, Ronpaulnation, etc, etc, etc.

In this way the RP supporters will decide if the project should be persued.

Anyone who propelled

Anyone who propelled Ventura's win could probably easily sell Ron Paul. This is a great idea.

Changing Horses

Look how Huck started to implode after he hired Ed Rollins (News conference about not releasing negative ads, and playing the negative ads at the news conference).

A change in marketing should only come if Paul does very well in Iowa or NH, otherwise it's a sign of being desperate.

fringeNOT nails it! Lets do

fringeNOT nails it! Lets do it.

Also read the article on lewrockwell.com about the grassroots and how decentralization is part of the strategy, the plan is; there is no plan! The free market will take care of it. And look how it's working someone comes up with a good idea it gets pitched to the campaign they do not respond and the grassroots picks up the ball and runs with it, Brilliant!

The campaign has to pick and choose where to spend the money and you can burn through a lot of cash in a hurry if you jump on every idea. So it's in their interest to hold off an see if the grassroots will pick up the idea and run with it. This is how Dr. Paul is blowing away the competition on a fraction of the cash without special interests etc. and watching the free market work is a thing of beauty! Order from chaos... LOL!

There is nothing wrong with

getting it to Dr Paul's attention and then accept the decision. And there is very little justification for not answering callers or e-mails. If the official HQ does not want to consider these people they van easily send a 'not interested reply'.

We've been through this before

Sorry, thanks but no thanks, IMHO. RP has proven that he already has the expertise to marketing himself (in a strategic sense). I'll bet HQ gets lots of these offers of help from possibly well-intentioned by misguided critics, His supposed lack of sophistication at the art of mass persuasion is a total red herring. Just take a look at what's out there already, totally decentralized! And it hasn't cost him a dime.

Iowa students

I think the most practical way of getting the message to Dr Paul is by taking this message to the Iowa student volunteers. I am sure he will be meeting with them tomorrow. One of them can hand it over to them and at the same invite him to spend 15 minutes everyday at dailypaul and ron paul forums.

And while they are giving him this message, they can also slip in the JBlack TV ads information.

This could work. There is a thread on ronpaulforums where the iowa volunteers write evryday.

I feel for you

Yea, I know the feeling of submitting great and proven ideas, and not even getting a response.

There is no way Ken, Lew, Joe, Holly and Don, Jesse, etc can answer all of the phone calls or emails; however Leadership 101 is that they have staff that can.

In politics and non-profits, the most important asset are the volunteers, not the money you raise.

When you brush off volunteers, they lose desire, and that means they don't volunteer as hard -- that means you lose votes.

Pray for them.

You have a great idea, but NHQ will not be open to it (or they would have contacted you). Do it yourself, or get your meetup to do it. You may try contacting the fellow that took out the full page ad in the USA Today newspaper.

If you have an opportunity to meet personally with Ron Paul, you can give him a personal letter and ask him to read it on the plane.

The die is cast for the TV commerical effort for now; hopefully later NHQ will be open; but the campaign will be won at the grassroots if it is going to be won.

Thank you for your efforts and ideas. Keep telling people about your great ideas; work to fund it yourself. If you can fund a proto-type and stick it on youtube, that may open doors.

Every CA email/call is answered

If someone sends an email to or calls me in California, it gets answered. 900 emails in 5 days all answered --with no staff. All phone calls answered. No excuses.

I think y'all overestimate the amount of help there is. There has to be a trade off - big money spent on media and other vital campaign things that don't accept credit cards, or enough staff so everyone feels validated. Can't have both until campaign money grows on trees.

Pretty presumptuous of Northwoods to assert that without their expertise, Dr. P will be shut out in NH because of low poll numbers. How old media of them.

I like this idea.

I like this idea too! Go

I like this idea too! Go for it!

I vote go for it. Just like

I vote go for it. Just like stated above..we can hire them if many agree, to work for a week or two and see if it helps. RP's poll #s suck. Maybe they know a way to raise them. It is odd that he is low in the polls and not taken as seriously as the other candidates. I think we shd give the pros a try, if we can afford it.
