There are a lot of Trolls on the DP today.

I would suggest that everyone check out how long someone has been a member here before you get all upset at crazy posts. Just ignore them if you see something that looks like its a smear against RP and move on to positive things.

God Bless

VERY IMPORTANT !!

it's very important NOT TO MISTAKE a good but uniformed person, with someone who came on the site with the attention of doing harm. we don't want to drive away good people who are still learning about our message. it's better to have a dozen actual trolls posting nonsense here, than to drive away just one potential new supporter. just good judgement in how you respond to others.

nr

Agreed sometimes it hard NOT to post but all you are doing

Is helping give those trolls more traffic. If there is troll material, just let it drop and bump UP productive threads instead.

The trolls come out and play when we start to ruin their day!

Ron Paul WILL Win!

We WILL take our republic back!

If we're being attacked, we are close to winning.

If you find troll posts, don't forget to vote them down to alert the rest of us.

Wasted motion

to point out trolls.

You can almost picture them

Trolls are not the many new members signing up daily that are here because they are excited with new hope. They are the kind that say things that are reminiscent of anti Paul commentators. Very easy to see.
You can almost picture them sitting their looking for angering stories to post or comment on.
When I think of a troll, it conjures up images of arrogant little congressional lackeys who are easily dazzled by the illusion of the power they think they have. You know the kind, (Hey, back off, I work for so and so!) They swoon over the fact that they are connected, and that the “higher ups” have asked them to go under cover and join the Daily Paul to monitor and save what they see.

Easy to spot, they are of the same kinds of people who like to enter a room and bring up, usually for no reason and unbeknownst to those in the room, the exact same subject that their establishment boss gave a speech about the night before and then rant on about the complicated details. Following the impressive rant is that moment of looks and accolades collected from those who were gullibly impressed with the troll’s great knowledge. Then comes a look of feigned amusement on the trolls face directed at the “little people” who either disagree or try to ignore the rant since (they) must be too stupid to understand how the system works.

Similarly recruited are other kinds of trolls who are the busy body police state types who also work within the ranks of the GOP and DNC machinery. Much like the tactic used to infiltrate and take over Tea Party rallies in 08-09, (infiltrate and divide) their job is to comment on or post the kinds of negative news stories that will get Paul supporters angry enough to write something “crazy” that they and the media can use against Paul. (Not all of the negative stories, but some) I spot them and pay no further attention. We are winning, the people are waking up and they know it. They are scared that their crony based "republicrat club" and the giant war machine is coming to an end.

Merry Christmas to all. And keep smiling.

Recognizing trolls

Easy to spot, they are of the same kinds of people who like to enter a room and bring up, usually for no reason and unbeknownst to those in the room,

On the other hand, consider someone who is ready to consider RP, but they just can't get past what they've heard about RP's position on X. Whatever "X" happens to be for them. They like what they've heard RP say about other things, but "X" is just too much to swallow. SO they also show up in the room suddenly bringing up X, and bringing it up in the way they heard about it (on fox, or redstate, or whatever).

One you want to get rid of; the other you (hopefully) want to help get answers. But superficially they look very much alike.

I hope I'm not out of line to plug my own proposed solution here:
http://www.dailypaul.com/196350/in-defense-of-some-trolls

Imagine, If this was Mittromneycentral, these trolls go POOF!!!

Faster than a blink of an eye...

And when I hear the word 'troll'

I remember why I feel so uncomfortable. I don't think it's very kind to bark at any new member whose questions you don't like to leave the site and educate themselves, then turning your back and complaining about 'trolls'. I consider it as impolite as open calls to ignore or vote down unwelcomed posts. People do this anyway if they don't like a thread, so why is there a need to call for it? Just to be the bull of the woods for a moment?

It's not only very poor style, but also an odd specific for a website embracing a man who stands for the liberty of speech. Maybe such behaviour is considered 'cool' nowadays, maybe it's an American thing, I don't know. I simply consider it rude and off-putting.

Oh, and don't bother to check me out - I signed up only a few days ago and I'm most likely a troll.

I agree with you, Goatsmilk

& honestly it grieves me to see this happening here.
I could care less how long a person has been a member ( & I always find it amusing those who yell *troll* usually have memberships for a few months).
Ron Paul is not my idol, he is not my god, he IS a humble man that believes in liberty, freedom of speech and freedom of ideas...and this is why I support his campaign. Hopefully, the rudeness exhibited ( lately) will stop... and the willingness to embrace those with honest questions will once again be demonstrated here ( b/c this is what the DP is known for by those of us who have been here for long time).

Peace to you.

Granted, some people abuse the term.

Unfortunately, some people overuse that term, and it's really juvenile. It bothers the rest of us.

On the other hand, there HAVE been people who come to this forum just to insult Ron Paul and his policies and his supporters. The word for that is trolling. I think it's worse to annoy a whole forum with one's antics than to call a spade a spade or a troll a troll.

That being said, welcome to the Daily Paul, everyone here was new at one time!

As one of the DP's most energetic trollbusters

I have to say that there are new people here who don't know alot of things yet, and may appear to be trolls, but are simply newbies.

It is hard to tell sometimes.
I recommend allowing a certain number of posts to let the troll out himself/herself before getting excited about it, or taking any action.

Who knows, with Dr. Paul's message, even some trolls might get converted.

But the really bad ones with evil nasty posts need to get the boot right away.

"Might get converted..."

Awesome! Maybe they'll contract "Paulitis" and bring it back to their hive.

A full on pandemic of peace, liberty, and prosperity sweeping the nation!

BigT is correct

We shouldn't be bashing people just because they are new. Believe me, there are a lot of new people registering on DP lately. Turning people off just because they may still be in learning mode, that may be looking into RP, is not what we need to do.

We spend hours a day going through the spam filter freeing up and clearing topics and comments, and it is even difficult for us to make decisions sometimes on troll or not troll. Just because someone doesn't agree on a first post or two, is not really a reason to shut them out.

That should be left to us really, we will, and do, find and weed them out eventually when there is good evidence to do so.

I love your optimism!

Note: Not just trolls have nasty posts.LOL.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Welcome trolls! That's just

Welcome trolls! That's just one sign that things are going pretty well.

I will caution that we will be getting a lot of new legit members as the campaign expands, so you can't conclude everything by looking at the length of a membership, but it is very unusual for new members to create content. That's when my red flag goes up.

I'm new and I don't welcome the trolls

I agree that it's a good indicator of success, but who needs the distraction. Flies also have a purpose in nature, and I don't like them buzzing around my food.

Maybe we could have a rating system that more quickly assesses where somebody stands based on how many votes up or down they got versus how many posts they made or how many threads they started. It may come in handy as the movement grows.

and on a side note, I was here earlier in the year but didn't join when it rolled over to the new format of having contributing members, I wanted to give my extra funds straight to moneybombs and grassroot efforts.

That being said, I do have much respect for the long term members who have kept the flame alive and gave us a place to rally to. Your early awakening and support for Ron Paul in the 2008 campaign and the many years before that is the foundation of what we have today. You can feel proud of yourselves and you deserve that recognition.

I'm perfectly fine with being part of the second third or fourth wave, because it's ultimately not about me or anybody or even Ron Paul himself. It's about the message.

Welcome to all new members

& there is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone creating a post on the first day they join...I did...& I have been a DP member for 4 years & and an advocate of liberty for a lot longer.

I get really sick of people looking at the length of membership to determine *Ron Paul loyalty*.
This is a community to come into & express ideas, ask questions, & promote liberty...so to all of the 'lurkers' please know that you are welcome to join & post on your first day.

Peace.

Ditto. I made a post the

Ditto. I made a post the first day I joined, too..over 4 years ago for sure. Otherwise, I would not have joined. I do not like namecalling here, either. I also believe that calling someone a troll is somewhat subjective, as Mike pointed out, and can be unjust and undeserving. We have, as well, seen MANY posts from former neo-cons who have recently learned what true conservatives are, and would have written questionable posts prior to that. If we have a big tent then these people can come in and leave of their own accord if they find no comradeship here. Can you imagine what would happen to a Newt supporter if he came to this site? Believe me, we would not have to ban him..

Length of membership is only

Length of membership is only one factor considered when I read a sketchy post. Also, I didn't say there was anything wrong with creating content on your first day. I said it was unusual. Someone joins and posts something sketchy immediately? Caution. I'm not talking about comments -- I'm talking about creating threads.

Send me a list

I'll check them out.

I was thinking of shutting down the DP for Christmas. What do you think?

Do it Michael

Read only mode as others suggested. Then Monday you are going to have to make sure your servers can handle the all the new posts... LOL... Have a great holiday Michael!

I say shut it down!

Don't get me wrong, it's going to suck...really bad. But you deserve a break, and we all need to take a break (whether we think so or not). We can all spend a little more time with friends and family. I know that I haven't been spending enough time with my family lately. I say go for it, and have a Merry Christmas! We'll see ya on Monday! We can survive one day!

Well...

Well that would be the pitts,Joking right?

I can put it into read only mode

So people can read, but not post.

Seriously, it is Christmas. I wouldn't mind relaxing for a day.

Please, take a day off

You know the craziness will only escalate exponentially as the campaign continues; from the nomination, to the inauguration, it will explode.

Go recharge the batteries. What do you think the Doc is doing this weekend?

"Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love." - MLK -

I say

Take a well deserved break. Merry Christmas Michael!

Go ahead!

RELAX!

I am going to get in trouble here, but Mr Nystrom?

You have worked the DP up to one of the biggest mediums for support of Ron Paul. You spend endless hours dedicating your time to this site,Ron Paul and all of us very fortunate members.I think most would agree and be supportive of this decision if you would like it Sir.You have gone above and beyond what anyone would do in this direction and very well deserve to do it. Would it be appropriate for me to ask it of the DP community?

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Can you turn off...

just new member registration?
