The Speaker of the House does not have to be an elected official of Congress.

Article 1, Section 2 of the United States Constitution states in part, "The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker".. They do not need to be a House Member.

Who do you think would be a good Presiding Officer (Third in line to Presidency)? Could a public discussion, campaign and recommendation force the House to vote for maybe a non-politician?
