Found a way to save $400 a month to give to Ron Paul's campaign
Submitted by twilson1utk on Fri, 12/30/2011 - 23:19in
We canceled cable television $100
Cut eating out to every other Friday night $100
Saved gas money by carpooling to work with my wife (yes this is a steep sacrafice, she listens to pop Country) $100
Cancelled netflix, XM radio, started making our own babyfood $100
So proud to give $400 a month to the cause of liberty. What have you sacrificed? Share! :)

twilson- this is one of the BEST threads ever!
Thanks for posting and getting the rest of us to thinking!
I gave up cable tv years ago but I am going to start thinking of other ways to save money. I am only a few hundred away from the limit, so am glad to be reminded about the PACs.
Thanks to a fellow Daily Pauler during one of the last debates, I learned about tvpc.com--now I can watch Dr. Paul, and just about anything else, for free on my computer. Maybe it will help you avoid the "withdrawal pains" of giving up cable!
Wow.
Raising the bar, you are.
You're absolutely right - there is no excuse for failing access every financial nook and cranny for this cause.
You have inspired me to rise to the challenge.
I just made a donation to Dr. Paul that I had not planned on making, and I pledge to find ways to make even more donations in the coming days, weeks, months.
We can do this!

I donate every payday, twice
I donate every payday, twice a month. I desperately need to have my 10 yr old car checked for a problem it has, but would rather give to Ron Paul. I cut my own hair and don't go out to eat. No splurges.

Me too! I gave up much for Ron Paul...
Cable
Meat
Weekly manicures (now monthly)
Expensive haircuts
Personal trainer
Saving a bundle - and glad to do it.
What does it all mean if we are not free?
I am happy for you but are
I am happy for you but are you a DELEGATE?!?!?!?!?!?! Your time and patriotism of you, your wife, and your neighbors to become DELEGATES is what is really going to win this thing since your money goes to commercials, which gets people to vote for Paul in the primaries, but are you a DELEGATE!!??!!?!?!??!?!?!!??!?!?!
I want to be a delegate in
I want to be a delegate in Louisiana but the campaign manager says people wih community influence is more important. So I am getting him in touch with a well known doctor in my area who LOVES Ron Paul. Cha Ching!

You're Right
And I'm working toward getting that done as we speak.

Great Ideas
Thanks for all your doing!
And you can contribute up to
And you can contribute up to $2,500, correct?
All Rights Reserved, c 1791
RP 2012 and beyond....
I guess so?
Personally, I think that the $2500 limit is a bad law. Why limit the donations of individuals while the corporations donate millions?. Wouldn't loose any sleep over practicing a little civil dispbedience and ignoring it.
There may not be a cap when donating to the Revolution CPAC though.
RonPaulForFreedom
What price, freedom?
"Personally, I think that the $2500 limit is a bad law."
I find it particularly irksome because I'm trying to buy my damn freedom. Who is the government to say I can only have freedom if I can manage to find it on sale for $2500? Like price controls in the free market, this price-cap just acts to ensure that the good will remain unavailable, which I guess suits some people in power quite well.
"Wouldn't loose any sleep over practicing a little civil dispbedience and ignoring it."
The campaign can't accept your overage and it will just cost them money to refund it to you.
"There may not be a cap when donating to the Revolution CPAC though."
Correct - there is no cap there. Also, as far as I know, there is no cap for the super brochure either, as money spent on that isn't even a donation of any kind -- it's a purchase of agreed-upon goods and services.
I really wish RevolutionPAC would allow purchase/chip-ins for specific advertisements in specific locations as I think many potential donors would find that much more enticing than a giant pot of money where contributors have no control and no clear idea exactly where their money went. (RevPAC could of course make suggestions and provide information on why certain ads will help more in certain locations in order to try to "herd the cats".)
I totally agree-- RevPac should allow donations for SPECIFIC ads
People are much more likely to donate when they know what it's going for.
As far as the cap, lets not forget that our offspring can donate too- do they have to be 18 to donate??
Minors can donate, but be careful!
Section 441k "Prohibition of contributions by minors" (http://www.fec.gov/law/feca/feca.pdf) states:
"An individual who is 17 years old or younger shall not make a contribution to a candidate or a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party."
However, there's a footnote that states: "McConnell v. FEC, 540 U.S. 93 (2003), the Supreme Court ruled that section 441k was unconstitutional."
As of Feb 2005 the FEC has adopted new policy (http://www.campaignlegalcenter.org/attachments/Reference/142...) which is very similar to the old policy they had before they went all unconstitutional:
"Under the new rule, a minor can make contributions to federal political committees so long as: (1) the minor makes the decision to contribute knowingly and voluntarily; (2) the minor has ownership or control over the funds contributed; and (3) the contribution is not controlled by another individual and is not made from the proceeds of a gift, the purpose of which was to provide funds for the making of a political contribution."
So, it looks like minors can donate, but don't try to just route funds through your kid's name or you could get in trouble.
It never ceases to amaze me
the miles Ron Paul supporters would walk to help him win this election. Kudos to you, brother! You just inspired me to donate $100.

My lease expires next month
I'm thinking about living w/ my parents for a month or two and donating the savings to the campaign. I live in NY so I'll max out my contribution if I do that.
great
Absolutely a great idea, if it is possible/practical. And I think it will be bearable for many if it is only for a while. That goes for all types of sacrifices - if it is only temporary, it is easier to do it.
Pop country?!
Good God man!!
You've gone "all in."
I cannot top that.
Please resist the urge to light yourself on fire.

Another suggestion.......
Call your c.c. company and find out if they have any promotional A.P.R.s for purchases.
Then as long as you can pay it off over that period of time or sooner take advantage of it.
You'll be able to drop the campaign a nice sum of money, even max out your donation if you wish, and pay a pittance of interest while doing so.
But...but...how are you going
But...but...how are you going to be informed about the dangers Ron Paul without TV news?
Rand Paul has strange ideas!
Ron Paul has dangerous ideas!
These are gr8 sacrifices...
May God bless you!
Thank you!

No, they are great
No, they are great investments.
Would it be a sacrifice to give up cable tv and take out dinner to purchase silver or gold bullion, start your own business, pay for your kid's education, or pay the medical bills of your spouse who is sick in the hospital? Of course not. Donating to Dr. Paul's campaign is no different.
I understand Christians who support Ron Paul and want to live in a free society are conflicted on the concept of "Sacrifice"... because with respect to Christianity, sacrifice is a virtue. In contrast, sacrifice in the context of a free society is actually a vice. Free people should never be called upon to sacrifice anything, especially against their free-will, against their rational judgement, and against their long-term self-interest.
If you look closely, much of the Christian usage of "sacrifice" is actually very similar to how governments use the word. Words like "sacrifice", "duty", etc. tend to go together when it comes to totalitarian governments, and they actually go together in the Christian religion too. Instead of "duty" to the state, it is "duty" to a god.
There is clearly a conflict here, and Ron has to deal with the conflict all the time. Dr. Paul sides with Reason over the bible in cases like this (gay rights is another). The real victory for our freedom movement is convincing many Christians to see it the same way Ron Paul does, but I suspect that to be a very challenging task for us.
So it's always a good idea to make sure we understand what we are saying if want to win this revolution. We don't want to speak their language. This is an intellectual revolution - and we can't get it wrong.
Your right
Spending money for a cause, instead of wasting money to keep up with the Jonses, is not a sacrifice. It's a blessing.
RonPaulForFreedom
oh god....
pop country huh......
you ARE sacrificing!
but you're not alone - i got into my truck the other day after my wife drove it to work - damn it if 96.3 KSCS wasn't blaring at top volume. god help me. if she does exist, god help us all.
Kelly Clarkson
I think Kelly Clarkson is considered pop country to some degree??? I'm not hundred percent sure, but that could be worth listening to!
You sir...
are a Patriot.
If you want a revolution, I
If you want a revolution, I mean a REAL revolution, this is what we are all going to have to do.
I congratulate the OP on being the first to recognise this.
Without the above kind of extremity, and perhaps even more, there will be no revolution.
Please don't use the word
Please don't use the word sacrifice. You are giving up things of lesser value in your own judgement in order to obtain something of a greater value. By definition, this is a NOT a sacrifice.
When dictators like obama ask Americans to make sacrifices - he means it. He wants you to take actions that force you to give up greater values for lesser values... or NO VALUE at all. That's what a sacrifice is. This is the language of the collectivists.
For example, he wants you to pay more in taxes, or suffer higher inflation and get nothing in return - or even worse, be forced to accept things against your self-interest. This is a sacrifice.
But the pursuit of higher values is an individualist philosophy - the philosophy of individual freedom and free-market capitalism. The philosophy Ron Paul talks about.
Words are important. It is not a sacrifice to give money to something you value, whether that's food, shelter, your spouse, your kids, or to your freedom.
