Pauls' Huge Drop in Favorability Number is Telling!!!

From the PPP press release,

"Other than Santorum's rise the other big story of the week is Paul's fall. He was at 24% earlier in the week but has dropped to 20%. That decline in support coincides with a precipitous drop in his favorability numbers. On our last poll he was at +13 (53/40), but that's gone down 21 points on the margin to a -8 (43/51)"

The Newsletter story and the unrelenting bashing by the media has definitely hurt Ron.

GOTV will be key. I do hope in fact we have the best Campaign in Iowa. We really will need them to come thru Tuesday night.

Santorum not examined

The same people moving from Bach to Perry to Cain to Mitt to Newt are now going to Santorum, but they haven't examined him or realized his bubble won't last two days past Iowa. We need links pointing out Santorum's flaws in easy to understand bits. Something like http://notonewt.com/

Remember the The Bridge to Nowhere

HE VOTED FOR IT! Have you heard anyone ask him about this? I haven't.

Rick Santorum Needs to Be Vetted

I completely agree that Rick Santorum needs to be vetted.

northstar's picture

Obama wasn't vetted either

Scary

Real eyes realize real lies

We want our country back

Every year is a year for Ron Paul!

Media would not do it to

Media would not do it to Gingrich so we had to. I guess we can do it to Santorum just as easy. He has background for sure..

Saturday / Sunday breakout trending in right direction

From PPP:

"Sat: Romney 21, Paul 19, Santorum 18, Newt 14, Perry 10.
Sun: Paul 21, Romney/Santorum 18, Newt 14, Perry 10"

Probably not much statistical significance in the slight difference though. Either way, I'll take the positive trend.

Sant taking from Mitt

If Santorum wins, he might drop Mitt to 3rd and leave RP at 2nd. Or it might stay at Sun levels with Ron winning!

If people take ten minutes to read about Santorum's record, his "surge" will end.

Honestly, looking through

Honestly, looking through some of this data it looks good for us.

Q17: Foreign policy only makes up 4% of what voters consider the most important issue. What was #1? Budget/Cutting spending which is his strong suit.

Q13: do you watch fox news? Half of voters do not haha!

Q20. Do you think Ron Paul has strong principles? Yes-60%. He was #1 in this category.

Q25. How important is it that a candidate spends a lot of time in Iowa? 65% say it's important.

Q26. Who has the strongest campaign in Iowa? Ron Paul #1

I could go on and on but this tells me we are going to do a lot better than what this poll result says.

Paul 30% when indies and dems in the mix!

"But with independents and Democrats who plan to vote, which we peg at 24% of the electorate, Paul leads with 30% to just 14% each for Santorum and Romney."

Misleading

among ONLY Dems and Ind Paul polls 30%

Right, that's already factored into the final figures.

He's actually 3rd among Repubs.

yes but

Let's not get our hopes up, you know they'll doctor it to make it look tight.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, an

The good news are

- Paul is STILL top despite all the smears, lies and distortions by the media

- He kills everyone among independents and dems

- He kills everyone among 18-45

- The traditional republicans like winners, if Paul can carry Iowa it will give him a huge boost IMO

- The dark horse, Santorum, has no cash and absolutely must win Iowa if he is to remain relevent

- Romney, isn't rising despite the fact that he stayed in Iowa instead of going to NH, not looking too good for him to win it.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, an

You are right... the other

You are right... the other candidates dropped like crazy, like 10% after the smears. Paul only dropped 4% and that is because Newt voters went to Santorum Mr. Frothy Mix..

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

2 things

I think the Santorum surge is fabricated so they can more easily rig the Ron Paul votes down. Just my humble opinion.

Re older voters:
It surprises me that more older voters don't support RP. Is it because of Social Security?
RP is strong on supporting SS entitlements for existing recipients. He has tried to:
1) eliminate income caps on those receiving SS
2) make SS income non-taxable
3) stop allowing SS tax money to go into general revenues to save it for those entitled to it (we all know they took all that $$ out of the SS fund years ago!)

Working for US policy in the mideast that serves AMERICA's interests http://www.councilforthenationalinterest.org/

Older voters are more eaily swayed by the MSM

I have been talking to my 75 yr old mother about Ron and tonight she came at me with the " I will not vote for that man. He's hate's Israel and he is racist!"

I explained a little and handed her 'Liberty Defined'.
Hopefully that will help.

A lot of the old people would

A lot of the old people would give up their social security checks for the protection from the Iranians bombing Iowa.

I think it is because older

I think it is because older voters tend to rely a lot more on the television for information.

Older voters rely ENTIRELY on

Older voters rely ENTIRELY on television/MSM websites for information.

It's only when you read real opinions like on twitter or forums like this do you get proper representations of people like RP.

Think about it. Was it CNN who got you on the RP bandwagon?

Agreed

My Dad 91, Mom 88. My son is their live-in primary caregiver because of their health issues and he's been working on them concerning the MSM they love to watch. And offering them different points of view on what the MSM is telling them. Mom is beginning to understand, Dad can't concentrate anymore for longer than a day, so he has to be reminded of what is transpiring.

Dad can't read anymore like he used to, other than the newspapers (mainly sports) and simple stuff. But Mom read "Liberty Defined" and loved it. Said it really made her think.

We've had to explain to them that the old news and journalists from what they grew up with are no longer around and the new MSM is slanted beyond recognition.

For instance, Dad is retired Navy Intelligence. I can remember as a kid, listening to news about Viet Nam during dinner and something was said about not being able to get info out of prisoners, that there was rules of war/engagement, etc... I was like, "Rules in war? That is stupid, how can you have rules in war? They ought to beat the info out of them." (remember, I was like 8 or 9.) My dad said, "Oh no, you can't torture people honey. If we torture them, they could torture our men that are captured." (this is paraphrased)

Now unbelieveably, that same man who told me that torture was bad, after watching decades of TV, his opinion has changed. It is now a necessary evil! I was absolutely floored when I heard that come from him.

Because he isn't lucid all the time, its difficult to have a rational discussion with him that he can even remember what was said. Mom is better in her mental faculties and agrees with Ron Paul, well, mostly.

So the brainwashing MSM propaganda worked really well with them since they aren't internet savy.

One last thing that blew me away... I thought we had them leaning more our way until I spent Christmas Day with them. I sat down in the livingroom next to a coffee table loaded down with magazines and books. A stack of books closest to me had Jesse Ventura's "63 Documents" on top. I smiled; it had a bookmark in it. I picked it up to check out the next book, and my heart sunk to the floor. Underneath it was "Pinheads and Patriots" and under that, "Killing Lincoln".

It unnerved me, but I didn't say anything. Put "63 Documents" down on top of the others as I had found it, stood up, turned to look at some bookshelves and about fell over. Up there inbetween some novels, was a book by Newt and an older one by B.O'Reilly, plus one by Ann Coulter.

I had to go outside to have a smoke and try to stop from screaming.

That's Right

..But I kept it up with my Mom, (she's 92 yo),
showing her videos, and talking about the grandkids,
nieces and nephews...and all the young RPers.

...so, she finally said in front of my older bro:
"I Think we should give him a vote".

(my brother & his wife just converted too)!!!

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........

Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

People dislike Romney

so much that I predict they will give Santorum 2nd place. This will knock Romney down big time. Dr. Paul will take it with 36%

Enonesoch

That would be great!

It will knock some wind out of Ronmey.

bigmikedude's picture

This Santorum surge is FABRICATED.

This is the same guy that can't draw more than a handful of people to his events, AND has next to no donations, and got THROWN OUT of a bar he visited during a football game because he was disrupting Iowans game viewing with all the cameras.

WTF.

"If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck."

it has shown up in every poll

so please stop saying it is fabricated. not everyone who votes (or gets called for their opinion) goes to campaign events. Santorum has picked up a few points from Bachman and clearly taken a majority of what is left of the undecideds.

ultimately the only poll that counts is on tuesday so if Insanatorium can't get those folks to put their coats on and go out, it won't mean much. The same could be said of RP under 45 vote. If they don't get off the couch then he's not going to win.

do not think that your level of involvement or support is typical of the average voter or even the average RP voter. It is not. People, young ones in particular, talk a good game and more often than not leave you hanging. Wed. will be a very difficult day if people dont walk the walk

gedankenexperiment.dk views on finance, politics and science

It is fabricated because it didn't happen until the media

started claiming he was the "one to keep an eye on" then "he is surging" and backing this up with skewed and questionable polls.

Then the polls actually started to reflect the higher level of interest.

This was combined with an expected bump for him as evangelicals who didn't like him and were holding out, finally decided to go ahead with him. However, this very likely could have been influenced by the above "fake it till you make it" meddling by the MSM noted above.

You betcha. It is a LOT

You betcha. It is a LOT easier to babble on the phone to a pollster while watching TV, than to drive in the dark to and from a 3 hour caucus event past your 8pm bedtime.
