I am being politically persecuted and need to move to a new state

I am not going to get into detail, but suffice it to say that I have been a pretty loud political activist the last few years and the government has started not liking me back. For several reasons, I need to relocate to a new state.

I need a place that is 420 friendly, gun friendly, homeschool friendly. I need a spot with an active group of Ron Paul supporters. Rural area, not too distant from a population center (within an hour). I want to buy some land and, you know the drill.

I should do okay with a couple of work at home projects as long as my business back home holds up. If I needed to move the business I could do it, to the right place, of course. Almost any college town will do.

Arizona looks promising so far. Any suggestions?

We want more details...

...about your "activism"; be vague, but specific at the same time without naming names...

You can't be MORE in danger of "political persecution" than this guys was...

There are a few places.

But nowhere is perfect, so you have to decide what is most important to you.

If you want like-minded folks, the western part of the US beats much of the east. (Though NH has their Free State Project, and Asheville NC has their Blue Ridge Liberty Project.)

NW Montana has Chuck Baldwin and many other liberty-minded folks who are relocating to that area.

Colorado is a beautiful state, especially in and around the San Juan Mountains, and many people there are independent-minded, but it's a mixed bag politically.

We've traveled and lived all over the country, and If we could live anywhere we wanted, we'd probably pick NW Montana or SW Colorado but I think that we'll eventually end up in the Flathead Valley.

Ontario, Oregon

It is on the east side of Oregon, near the Idaho border so the people have conservative sensibilities. However, since the majority of Oregon's population is on the west coast and is essentially Northern California, the state has medical marijuana laws. Ontario has a small college, Caldwell Idaho has a small college, Nampa Idaho has a couple of colleges and Boise has BSU.
What dies this area have that other areas do not? Hot springs, baby!

The city of Boise seems to be growing

And living near the city is probably not the best---but rural Idaho and rural Eastern and SE Oregon are close enough to the city, but it gets to "remote" pretty fast!
Even though Oregon has the medical marijuana laws, it is frowned upon by the residents of the small towns, and more education is needed in the area of personal liberty!
If you have land away from the small towns and don't rub people the wrong way, you should be fine!

Hi Fishy !

I am starting a business to sell or build off-grid places and will create a post when finished. We already have a couple in the John Day valley in Eastern Oregon and several in Northern Cali. Even though our govt. is still screwed up we are blessed with many Constitutional or common sense Sheriffs and living near a population center is overrated! I will bug Mom for us to meet up for a cold one in a hotsprings.

The light bulb goes on.

Did not realize who you were until now. Indeed! Kidnap her and drag her if you must, sounds like we have many conversations in dire need of a hot one and a cold one! I look forward to seeing what you're doing.

I love it here!

I like Colospgs

but there are TONS of military there, which may turn out to be a bad decision in the future (or maybe good - who can say).

Have you not heard of the Free State Project?

I understand they are welcoming and supportive.

did the DP

just turn into craigslist ?

"I need a place that is 420 friendly...."

Keep it classy man this is a Presidential campaign not the classifieds.

hm

That campaign ended when the GOP kidnapped delegates and forced a rule change. I'm pretty sure ending the Drug War was one of Dr. Paul's talking points.

LOL

Not awkward at all. Old articles pop up, i've caught myself a time or two before

Don't come to Missouri

The hillbillies in the Ozark mountains will eat you. They also eat soldiers, tanks, planes, and satellites. It is very scary here you wouldn't like it. All the trees and hills are scary.

Funny true believer

We gets them revenuers here in the hill country. Where's my possum? :)

Don't we all!

Nah but I hear you. I'm looking to move out of MA. No jobs here and I'd love to just get out of here ASAP, even if it means being homeless for a while.

I'd say Lawrence, Kansas, but Kansas is NOT pot-friendly. There's Ashland, Oregon, or southern Oregon in general. Hope you like rain, though.

A signature used to be here!

Central Oregon

Spent a year in Bend when I was a kid. Awesome place, and not nearly as much rain as on the coast.

The city of Bend is Yuppieville. now,

And surrounding area is populated by those who agree.
You need to go farther East in Oregon to find areas that are more Liberty-minded as a whole.
That being said, there are some committed Liberty activists in the Bend area.

Arizona

Lots of Ron Paul supporters and lots of Liberty activism

Right to concealed carry without a permit

about as "420 friendly" any other state. Although we passed a Medical Marijuana law, I haven't seen anything happen with it yet.

Lots of cheap land and housing in places like Maricopa and Queen Creek in Maricopa County within 30 minutes to an hour of the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Oh Wow, I just noticed you were already thinking about Arizona at the bottom of your post!

Good luck, I really hope you choose us!

Maricopa AZ has great home

Maricopa AZ has great home prices. I bought a 2500 ft2 home with 5 bedrooms for $92,000. The police don't really screw with anybody. We can legally conceal carry without a permit just about anywhere. I know a neighbor smokes on his front porch and no one bothers him.

AZ is homeschool friendly as well. Also, we support charter schools out here and the state funds charter schools too. So two of my kids go to a charter school and we don't have to pay directly other than taxation.

Relocation Bomb?

We could buy up a big chunk of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming or North Dakota and all move there together, declare independence and elect Ron Paul our President.

n/t

This has been suggested ad nauseam. Been tried and failed for various reasons. This suggestion laughably comes up every time someone fears that Ron Paul won't win the nomination. Guys, America sucks. Get used to it, or expatriate.

Not a credible idea but it sure sounds good

The fact is, I've already started researching a move to Canada or maybe Chile. We have family in Canada but it may be a little cold for our liking. Should anyone other than Dr. Paul become our next president my son has decided to file as a conscientious objector and abandon his career in the armed forces. These are not easy decisions, but we really don't see many viable alternatives.
