If Ron had gone Democrat and challenged Obama instead...Submitted by EGarrett01 on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 19:17
It seems like his chances would've possibly been better than going in the GOP primary. Republicans aren't known for flexible thinking, whereas Democrats are considered more likely to be open to radical candidates and newer ideas. Ron's base is mostly young and anti-war people, and there are far, far more of them registered as Democrats. Furthermore, the party is quite disappointed with Obama's failures and I don't think there would be any reluctance with Democrats switching over to RP like there is with Republicans joining him.
Ron's least left positions are on economic policy, and that's Obama's weak points, both in his record and his arguments. As an "anti-corporatist" I think Ron could even come out looking great there too.
I'm not saying that he'd be a favorite, nor am I saying that this election is over...but perhaps his odds in that case may have been better?
