Casida Supports Health Care Workers Decision to Say No to Mandatory Vaccines
Casida agrees with Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS)
(Pueblo, CO) Tisha Casida, Independent candidate for the 3rd Congressional District of Colorado, stands behind health care workers (HCWs) and their decisions to refuse an annual influenza vaccination after they were threatened that they would lose their jobs.
“I am so glad that the AAPS is standing up for people’s rights to decide what they are putting into their bodies,” says Casida.
The letter from AAPS to Colorado public health officials states that “Fewer than half of American HCWs choose to be immunized annually against influenza. We believe that the professional judgment of these workers should be respected”. In this same letter, the executive director, Jane M. Orient, stated that “AAPS recommends that vaccine and relevant information be made conveniently available to all who wish to receive it, and that the right of Americans to make their own medical decisions should be respected”.
Casida applauds the decision and the reaction of the AAPS and its executive director, saying “It is great to see the leaders of organizations using common sense and understanding the constitutionality of these rules, regulations, and requirements that are doing nothing to truly help people’s health and well-being”.
Casida, a small business owner, was inspired to run as an Independent in the third congressional district after seeing the events of the 2010 election as well as her own encounters with local, state, and federal government.
