the speech was ok, could have been alot better.
Please hear me out...Dr. Paul had all the cameras on him, the world watching, and he rambled and said things like "We are Austrians now" (yes, to the DP community we know what that means but 90% of Americans don't and it sounds weird).
Newt used his moment to strike...to be specific about the differences between him and Paul, Romney, Santorum and that is what I wish Dr. Paul would have done with all the world watching.
Dr. Paul could have forcefully said..."Our campaign won the independents 8-1 over all the other candidates, and without independents no one wins a national election. Our campaign brings in the progressives & democrats too because we are against the NDAA that Obama just signed, Obama signed to have Americans detained IDEFINITLY and under a Paul administration we will obey the constitution and protect civil liberties! Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum believe in the current foreign policy, they have no problem with continuing these wars and starting new ones...under my administration I will not go to war unless Congress votes to declare war. Mitt Romney has zero credibility as a conservative, he was for the bailouts and Obama gives Romney praise for coming up with a healthcare mandate for Massachusettes and took some of Romneys'ideas for Obamacare."
That is what I would have loved to have heard, and I could sense from Rand's body language he looked like he wishes his dad would stay more focused instead of rambling.
Bottomline...I accept Dr. Paul and his speaking style (it has been this way all his life)...and only want to see him succeed--On to New Hampshire!

excellent point
Yes, Heart4Wisdom I think you have made an excellent point.
I hope Ron Paul gets this message.

I smiled all the way through
I smiled all the way through the speech.
But when he said "We are all Austrians now" I thought the same thing.
Who will know what that means?
War....
I'd like to reiterate: the establishment is playing hardball and there are no rules. Everyone needs to be realistic about that.
I stated in a thread here before IA that I feared the random rise of Santorum meant the plan was to push Paul down to third.
http://www.dailypaul.com/198925/your-guess-on-the-vote-tomor...
It's easy to see how that happened. Santorum was made to appear credible and many, many of Paul's anti-Romney votes were shifted to Santorum through insider party deals. If not for Santorum materializing out of nowhere, Paul would have walked away with a first place finish. Even with Santorum's "surge," Paul was only a few percentage points off.
In NH, I fear a random Huntsman surge, or possibly another factor or factors, pushing Paul down to third again. The establishment's tactics are unsophisticated, but effective, and they can detonate these nothing candidates whenever they need to, as well as pull out all the stops with crooked media coverage, as we've seen.
If things played out naturally, Paul would be first in IA, and a strong second in NH. However, if he can be kept third or lower in early caucus states, he can be entirely marginalized as things go forward.
We, and the official campaign, need to be realistic about who and what we're up against, or we're going to get steamrolled.
Funny you should mention
a possible "Huntsman" surge in NH. I was just in New Hampshire (just for 1 night), and all I saw were Romney and Huntsman signs everywhere. I think you might be right, that's why there are so many "nothing" candidates.... they are just pawns being used strategically at the right time, to keep Ron Paul at arms length. And to keep Romney out of the main focus, that way he comes out smelling like a rose at the end... with out even getting his hands dirty! I am thinking Gingrich is just going to be used in the next couple of debates, to attack Paul on his foreign policy.... and once again keep our attention off of Romney. I hope the campaign is all over this... seems to me some of them especially Doug Wead will see this coming from a mile away... its not his first day at the circus! Ron Paul will have to be very much on his game, and ready for these attacks in the upcoming debates. We knew this was going to get ugly... but there is a real chance their scheming could backfire on them... I believe it's called "Blowback"!

Santorum energy
After seeing the crowd chant and cheer for the good Dr., I had to go see the Santorum people get rowdy during his speech. I'll probably now go to the Santorum grassroot discussion board at dailysantorum.com to see the supporters do victory laps.

About Rand
I noticed Rand had a kind of glazed-over look in his eyes during recent appearances. I think he is just appalled at the treatment of his dad by the media. Instead of asking about Ron Paul's policies, almost every interviewer has badgered Rand and Ron about drugs and prostitution, "outside the mainstream" views, etc. Rand is not used to this kind of treatment, since the mainstream GOP has been more accepting of him than his father. It must have been spirit-crushing.
That said, I hope Rand moves closer to his father's politics and doesn't become just another Republican.
RP Iowans are calling in the Alex Jones show today!

Evil treatment by MSM
You would think Rand Paul would know how evil the MSM is . People have to realize the MSM & Goverment have their own evil interest to look after and could care less about it's citizens . They're viciously attacking Paul & pumping Santorum , because Santorum is a DC insider and was most likely "picked" by TPTB . The Paul's have to keep exposing how evil & corrupt our political system is to the people . I knew back when Santorum announced he was running for Prez. that this was a corrupt setup . Why Santorum ? The guy has a very Big Government history and is liberal in many of his ideas .He also supported traitor & former Senator Arlen Spector . He lost his last bid to be reelected as Senator in PA. He has no name recognition nationally , but in the most corrupt section of the U.S. the northeast .

That was one of Ron's best speeches ever
The main question in this campaign is not whether Ron can win. It is "How can Ron not win?". Ron's tireless 10% insures that Ron can be the only real Republican nominee. Anyone else will turn into Bob Dole without Ron's 10%. A long primary process will allow Ron to lay the groundwork for Rand in 2016. By then, they'll be talking about Rand's tireless 20%.

It was designed to take the government

well
he did have 21% of the vote last night so I think he already has a tireless 20% :)

Integrity of Paul campaign compromised
My email address was taken from the Daily Paul or Ron Paul 2012 website. I started getting emails from the Townhall pro Gingrich and anti Paul. Today I am really pissed off Townhall sent me an email to Donate to Santorum!
Also what was Daily Paul doing running a Santorum add!!!!!
There is a fox in the henhouse
Everyone needs to put this in perspective.
We over doubled Ron Paul's support in Iowa since 2008. That is unbelievable. We should be very proud of ourselves. The people who worked Iowa should be standing tall today. They where amazing. Also there was allot to be learn from watching last night. It has taken the progressives 100 years to get us to this point and look what we have done in only 7 years. I'm telling you its amazing. Think about it last time the evangelical vote was 35% for Huckabee this time it was 25% for rick Romney got his same 25% so that means either the other 10% voted for the others or they voted for Ron Paul. Either way the Christians showed that some of them are figuring out they need to make their decision on their own and not just vote the way their pastor tells them to that is a huge thing. It should give us hope for our nation that it can be woke up. It is our job to do everything we can to poke them and say "hey its time to get up". We are so lucky to have the internet or non of this would be happening. We have to protect an open internet at all cost they will do anything they can to close it off. anyway that's how I see this and everyone keep your heads held hi we are doing great.

Don't be fooled. If Ron Paul is not the next president none or little of what he and we have done will matter. This seems to be our last chance before total enslavement.

Just Waking Up...after a long 3 weeks!
I'm still at the Marriott where Dr. Paul's victory speech took place. 'For Liberty' director, Chris Rye is sitting at his computer--still editing footage. Here's a little something from last night from both of our cameras:

Nice Work!
Ron Paul is such a class act on top of everything else.
God damn love it.
Explain the Delegates.
So Ron Paul may have lost the popular vote, but not the delegate vote. I know people are quoting the examiner link:
http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-con...
or the infowars/business insider link:
http://www.infowars.com/ron-paul-may-have-just-secretly-won-...
According to CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/election/2012/primaries/state/ia
Paul: 7 delegates
Santorum: 7
Romney: 7
Gingrich: 2
Perry: 2
Unpledged: 3
Now what happens?
If Santorum drops out, what happens to his delegates?
Those are delegates to the district conventions...
not the national convention.
The county convention delegates will go on to the congressional district caucuses(April 21) to select delegates for the state convention(June 16) where the national delegates will be selected.
Basically three rounds: county, district, state to select national delegates. In each seperate caucus they can make up their own rules about bound/unbound and pledged/unpledged.
As far as delegates to candidates that drop out the race, I see no other logical possibility than those delegates being free to vote for whoever they wish in the next level of caucuses.
The 3 unpledged delegates are state party leaders.

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~
It's a very easy analysis.
We peaked early, and the press pounded on us for several days.
Santorum grabbed a lot of our votes, he peaked perfectly, because up until recently, his polling numbers bought him a total pass in the media, and us, no one scrutinized him. He's been under the radar. Fox and friends pumped him for all they were worth. Santorum won't last, because we will turn the flashlight on him, and probably get some help from part of the media.
People were warning about Santorum, they were right. Not because "he's the one". But because he was the right tool, at the right time, for the establishment to counter Paul. Now their usage of Santorum is done.
We got to go back to educating. If people don't understand what Paul is about, they won't have conviction.
I'm still seeing and hearing people say: "He's got strange ideas. He wants to go back to the gold standard. He wants to do this... He believes in that ... etc etc etc"
Which infuriates me. If Paul wants to go back to literally go back to the gold standard next year, then why is he trying to save the dollar?
It's a device, a learning tool, a history lesson, a warning. People really think that by 2014, Paul wants everyone to be carrying around little baggies of gold!!! They're idiots. I've corrected as many as possible, talking about the lessons of the gold standard, and why gold is real money, and that if we don't observe the dangers of fiat, we're going to lose ours. You tell them about competing currencies, sovereign money, money backed by something, etc etc etc. The main point is, with fiat, banksters rob us blind of our purchasing power. Once I explain it, people get it.
They confuse "a promise", with "a position".
Paul has many philosophical positions. But he's only made a few promises.
1. Bring the troops home.
2. Do everything in his power to balance the budget and start setting up an atmosphere of paying down the debt.
3. Veto un-constitutional legislation.
That's it. People are getting fooled by the media to think that all his philosophical positions have instant real world execution waiting for him to walk into the office of president and put on his crown and "make it so".
We need to fix that. We need to hammer the 3 promises home, and we need a frequently-asked-questions about all his positions, with comments about their educational value, real world solutions/options built on those stances, and how those things are achieved not by decree, but by people deciding.
The rumor is...
that the Iowa GOP approached Perry, Bachmann, etc. about shifting their support to Santorum as a hedge against Ron Paul.
Actually, this is more than a rumor but we just don't have all the details. The "plot" was revealed by an Iowa GOP operative on a radio show.
.
~wobbles but doesn't fall down~
I wouldn't be surprised ....
The evil DC establishment will do anything stop Paul from winning ANY state .And Bachmann and Perry would be more than happy to go along . Santorum may possibly be DC's trojan horse "pick" to become the next Prez . People, your looking at a possible repeat of the 2008 elections on how obama was elected . Or this whole process is cleverly being setup by the RINO/liberal think tanks to have Romney & Santorum "box out" Paul in every state caucus race . Kinda like a horse race where you have two corrupt horses boxing out a "people's choice" horse from having a chance to win .The DC establishment may be just fine with either one of these two traitors to sit in the WH . Paul may have to seriously go third party . If he does , he will turn the RNC on top of it's head .
Would a Paul vote be taken by Santorum?
The only votes I could see switching back and forth between Santorum and Paul (either way) would be people nearly completely uninformed sticking their finger in the air or flipping a coin.
I don't doubt that many (if not most) of the people might vote this way, which I guess implies that whomever the TV toots the loudest about on voting week will influence this group.
The bad news would be that it removes power from our campaign.
Currently consuming: Free Domain Radio; Virtue of Selfishness; Human action;
yea
when i said santorum took votes from paul, i was thinking in terms of the 1500 to 2000 vote swing that would have placed paul in second. there are some
social conservatives that get paul but there were likely just enough fence sitters that sided with santorum.
Good post - "generalized exaggeration"
The media sets the stage to "generalize-exaggerate" Ron's positions it allows them to discredit him, yet not be "lying". For example, Currently there are several alternative bills in congress regarding alternative currency valuations S1287, HB317, HB639, states with balanced budgets, do not wish to be tied to the aborant monetary polices of the fed either. Yet the media paints Paul as a "crazy gold bug", but you can see re-evaluating monetary policies is not so crazy an idea at all. It is the same as when they call him an isolationist opposed to a non-interventionalist on foriegn policy.
"This isn't what the govern meant"
"Win the crowd and you will win your freedom"
Excellent Analysis
Make it a mantra:
1) Bring troops home.
2) Balance the budget and pay off debt.
3) Veto un-constitutional bills.

I hope Rand learned something about talking to hostile media
His conversations with Soledad O'brien and Sean Hannity merely allowed them to smear his father. I'm sure Rand thought his rebuttals were clever. Hopefully by 2016 Rand will have learned that it is pointless to try and convert neocons. Rand doesn't need to be reelected in 2016. One term as senator is sufficient cred for a presidential run. Also, Ron doesn't need to appear on Sunday morning "news" interviews to be anyone's punching bag.
Famous Quote from Justice William O. Douglas
"The Constitution is not neutral.
It was designed to take the government

Its the Journey
Not the destination. This is a journey from tyranny to freedom. Ron Paul has awakened so many propagandized people and brought them into the light. Election fraud? It would be a joke to think it didn’t occur. A skunk don’t change its stripes. Ron Paul has the money and the supporters to continue the fight. So many more will come out of the fog of lies and into the fight. This fight is eternal its not just one election cycle. The immediate goal is NH but the bigger goal is a return to a constitutional Republic and respect for individual human birth rights. I thank everyone for your efforts they were well spent. Freedom always wins, we will never stop.
