Marine faces 15 years behind bars for unknowingly violating NY gun law
Submitted by StevenNelson on Thu, 01/05/2012 - 18:18Ryan Jerome was enjoying his first trip to New York City on business when the former Marine Corps gunner walked up to a security officer at the Empire State Building and asked where he should check his gun.
That was when Jerome’s nightmare began. The security officer called police and Jerome spent the next two days in jail.
The 28-year-old with no criminal history now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison. If convicted, his sentence could be as high as fifteen years.

Jury Duty!!!!!
I'm telling you, you have to serve on juries. His only hope is a "not guilty" verdict. This is one place where your one little vote can literally save the Constitution and his life.
Know your rights as a juror, and be prepared to withstand harrassment.
My brother-in-law sent a man to jail for using a paring knife with a two inch blade to core an apple for his lunch in his car in the parking lot, because the judge did not tell the jury about the mandatory minimum, and because the "suspect" admitted he cored his apple with the knife.
The parkinglot was at a Junior College campus, and neither the campus police officer, the DA, the judge, nor the legislature that made the law upheld the Constitution, but were "forced" to impose the mandatory sentence. Only a juror could have saved him and they were kept in the dark.
Know how things work, and serve!

reminds me of Plaxico
he got 2 years in prison... for shooting himself in the leg.
In TX you wouldn't go to jail for shooting yourself, you would just be shamed for life. LOL.
Didn't he know? You're only a
Didn't he know? You're only a hero when you're overseas killing for Washington, and Shell/Mobil and Boeing. When you come home only the police are heros.
Pass on NY
another reason to avoid NY.
I feel bad for that person who was arrested. To spend 2 to 15 years in jail for not doing anything, thats just nuts.
What about his constitutional right???
I thought we had the second amendment that will protect us??
Not in NYC

I hate to be "that" guy
But this is entirely on the Marine for not knowing the gun laws. Has he been living under a rock?
