Raw Milk Will Kill You! (according to the government, again)

Oh large oppressive government save us from ourselves!

These a holes are telling me that the raw milk I consume everyday is going to kill me, yet it's ok to eat FDA-approved salmonella-tainted peanut butter.

No use signing a petition, folks! The FDA has it covered. We're all "safe" now because they use "science". They said so right here in this email I just received. (I hope you are sensing my extreme sarcasm by now...I'm spreading it on pretty thick)

Enjoy... (oh, and if you are interested in reading more on the subject, please allow me to recommend 2 of my favorite books: The Raw Milk Revolution by David Gumpert and Everything I Want To Do is Illegal by Joel Salatin)

Food Safety and Raw Milk

By Doug McKalip, Senior Policy Advisor for Rural Affairs in the White House Domestic Policy Council

Thank you for signing a petition about legalizing raw milk and for participating in the We the People platform on WhiteHouse.gov. We appreciate consumer concerns on food issues and understand the importance of letting consumers make their own food choices.

This Administration believes that food safety policy should be based on science. In this case, we support pasteurization to protect the safety of the milk supply because the health risks associated with raw milk are well documented.

Pasteurization of milk was adopted decades ago as a basic public health measure to kill dangerous bacteria and largely eliminate the risk of getting sick from one of the most important staples of the American diet. In 1987, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a regulation prohibiting the interstate sale of raw milk to reduce the number of illnesses and outbreaks associated with its consumption.

In recent years, some Americans have rejected pasteurization in favor of raw (or unpasteurized) milk, citing a range of taste, nutritional, and health benefits they believe are associated with raw milk consumption, as well as a general preference for unprocessed food.

As a science-based regulatory agency, the FDA looks to the scientific literature for information on benefits and risks associated with raw milk. While the nutritional and health benefits of raw milk consumption have not been scientifically substantiated, the health risks are clear. Since 1987, there have been 143 reported outbreaks of illness – some involving miscarriages, still births, kidney failure and deaths – associated with consumption of raw milk and raw milk products that were contaminated with pathogenic bacteria such as Listeria, Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E. coli. The FDA's position on raw milk is in concert with the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatricians.

The FDA does not regulate intrastate raw milk sales, or selling raw milk within a state, which is left up to the individual states. Today, 20 states explicitly prohibit the intrastate sale of raw milk in some form and 30 allow it. FDA bans interstate raw milk sales, or selling raw milk across state lines. The FDA has never taken, nor does it intend to take, enforcement action against an individual who purchases and transports raw milk across state lines solely for his or her own personal consumption.

Thank you for participating in this important process. We appreciate your opinions and look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Hmmm . . . my family walking dead?

Been drinkin' this "poison" off and on for years . . . whenever we can procure it! In Germany we went to the farmer at milking time, waiting until they finished filtering some milk for us and they poured it into our little milk can . . . and were all smiles when we answered that no, we wouldn't "cook it" first unless they did!

In Iowa we had a little "co-op" of families who took turns going out to the farm to collect the weekly milk for the lot of us . . .

And in the past year we have even used six month plus old raw milk that remained refrigerated the entire time. We drink delicious milk from northwest Washington and the Willamette valley in Oregon; while in Missouri for a visit this year, managed to find a farm just a few minutes from family, thanks to the Weston A Price Foundation web site. all pastured Jersey cows. (We had carried northwest raw milk along in a cooler for the cross-country road trip.) When in northern California, if we run out of the Oregon/Washington milk, we get some Organic Pastures milk but it isn't the same, what with their practice of a "traditional" diet.

Last we checked, we were all still breathing, including the many friends who have enjoyed the milk in their tea and coffee and the cream in soups and pies and whipped as toppings for fruit.

NO doubt they will tell us that we are just incredibly lucky to still be standing . . .

My rant and an ending tune!

Lord have mercy, not only on the People but these fools that are dictating, too. Raised on "raw" milk, a.k.a. real milk, a.k.a. unpasteurized! My entire family, myself being the "runt", are known as, one of the healthiest, strongest, and most common sense individuals in our local area!

Does our very own brotherhood want us literally weaker then we possibly have to be? They serve this to the public in the name of protecting us? Our Creator gives all that we need to survive; if the dang man would allow for it!

All the laws, already, on the books to inspect dairy farmers like, regulations on the parlors/equipment/medicines/cattle/ etc... and, don't forget, the milk inspector with the right to come when pleases. These "measures" should be enough for, a responsible farmer, inspector, and all others doing their jobs to keep unhealthy milk from contamination or, having an "outbreak" of bad. Also, then, there's the milk man. He who must test the MILK (not milk substance you buy)that's in the bulk tank (large steel tanks milk goes into from cow,) prior to removing from bulk tank and pumped into the truck tanker. Then this milk goes to corporations to become a substance vs natural product for us to buy at a "contaminated" cost.

Let me tell ya, if one sees or smells an "unclean" bulk tank; one will not want that milk! If one fetches, on their own, from a trusted local farmer; that is their right as a individual free American to do so! Especially, pregnant women and special circumstances for bottle fed human babies.

I believe there is more to this "concept" than "health". Like most of the recent bills titles (patriot act, National Def. etc..,) representing the total opposite of the actual wordage. My mind continues to go to, back when, protein lacked from other country's diet, resulting in smaller human beings. This is just the tip, there are several other factors that affect the cow that gives the milk that feeds the people. Man being the biggest culprit.

A tune to sooth, if you'd like.
