"Trust Huckabee" Group-Illegal Fundraising?

From NPR: “Among Republicans, the most powerful outside group may be Trust Huckabee, an effort mounted by Common Sense Issues, itself a nonprofit organization financed mainly by wealthy donors in Ohio and Texas. Trust Huckabee attacked Romney with a TV ad and telephone operation. The group is also working through a Web site to build precinct operations for the candidate. With the crazy-quilt laws that govern campaign-finance disclosure, it’s unclear how much Trust Huckabee has spent.” I’m pretty sure I know who some of the Texas money is; here’s my thing. It’s obvious Trust Huckabee is not operating as a c4. It’s purely political. What’s being done is using a c4 vehicle to cloak donors, and then it’s being political, using c4 laws to shield political donors. One of the reasons, I’m pretty sure, is that some of the maxed out donors, worth up to a billion dollars, have decided that they want to do more than just write a $2,300 check to Huckabee. They’re no doubt dropping hundred of thousands, if not more, into this c4, to advance the cause of Mike Huckabee’s campaign. So Trust Huckabee is going to have problems in the future for its overtly political work. But the real kicker would be if you could line up the donors of Trust Huckabee with major Huckabee donors, and then prove there was coordination in an attempt to skirt IRS and FEC election law. The thing is, by the time the IRS and FEC catch up with Trust Huckabee, the damage is done. I’m pretty sure that’s what the people behind Trust Huckabee are thinking.
