Rand Paul, Gold
Submitted by Justin Felder on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 21:00in
Hello everyone,
I like Rand Paul. I have a very easy yes/no question. Is anyone aware whether or not Rand Paul has a good understanding of Austrian Economics & the importance of a gold standard? I don't hear him talk about it much.
Being virtuous is all well and good, but for me to support the next President, he would have to understand economics too.

He is a Gold man
I've heard him talk about taking the money he earned cutting grass as a teenager and buying gold with it. gold was at $130 an oz in 1976

Ron Paul at Rand Paul's age today had it going on so much more
I think Ron's bookcase is loaded with libertarian books, his own included. I think Rand Paul's bookcase has a few of dad's "on loan" that haven't been touched. I would love to be wrong about this and someone send me a good clear snapshot of Rand's bookcase.
Right now, I like Judge Andrew Napalitano ...

I like Judge Andrew
I like Judge Andrew Napalitano too (of course), do you think he will run for political office? He's free to do whatever he wants, but don't you think he's more valuable in his current position (or maybe replacing Bill O'Reilly)
What do you think? Rand Paul has had a good teacher.
Rand Paul has had a good teacher.
I recommend that you read on the other threads for awhile before posting anymore stories yourself to get up to speed.
Welcome to the Daily Paul. Enjoy yourself.
I do know Rand has talked
I do know Rand has talked about sound money before, but I don't expect everyone to be interested in economics. It was tough for me until I really got into it. It's a tough subject to enjoy

If you have any interest, I
If you have any interest, I wrote a short piece which I think clearly enunciates the fundamentals of Austrian Economics/monetary policy:

The reason I ask is because I've heard Newt Gingrich speak of "sound money", and will he do anything when he gets into office? Probably not.
You have to understand why we need sound money and how to get sound money, in order to have the motivation to actually do anything.
I'll check it out, but I
I'll check it out, but I certainly understand why. I started with Rothbard and Bastiat so I got a good dose of why only a sound market based currency should be acceptable. lol

I think that's a good question...
And one a newcomer would logically ask. Rand is well versed on economic policy and favors the Austrian school. How can you not, if your dad is the Genius Patriot?

Thank you Sir.
Thank you Sir.
agree with JB...
...you came onto the site with an honest and reasonably important query. Everybody please grant those who are new (or appear to be) a bit of slack, okay?? At the same time, Justin...
...you need to not be offended if you're subjected to some vetting, or even "hazing"
REALLY????
You posted this after being a member for 20 minutes.
I support Ron Paul. I do not understand economics on a erudite level like Ron Paul, but I trust him, understand his passion, understand that there must be change, and his ideas are good.
If you want to know what Rand Paul thinks, than I suggest that you ask HIM. I think that he is a supportive son who loves and respects his father.

Pickup "Economics in one lesson"
Written by Henry Hazlit. It's a great first book to read to learn the basics of Austrian Economics. You owe it to yourself to educate yourself on what is probably one of the most important subjects on earth.
For far too long, society has been oblivious about economics allowing for the creation of central banks all across the globe.
It's a very easy to read book and very small too, so you don't need to worry about too many pages.
Chill People
Just because I haven't posted before doesn't mean that this is the first time I've been on the site or heard Ron Paul speak... lol, chill people
Anyway, my question is whether anyone has ever heard Rand Paul talk about a gold standard or Austrian Economics. I'd still like an answer.
I like Rand Paul. I like Ron Paul also. One of the many things about Ron Paul that I like is that he educates people who haven't been exposed to his ideas before (like me, two years ago). It's a bit of a long term strategy of moving the nation, as opposed to a short-term political strategy of shifting to what public opinion already is.
You can't "run" on a message of Austrian Economics, primarily because most people don't understand it, because they've never been taught it--it's not "bumper sticker" worthy.
Anyways... skipping back to my question.... Will President Rand Paul return us to a gold standard? If you don't understand why this is important, read Currency Wars. Or watch this video (the author is the man on the left, the man Ron Paul wants to be Fed Chairman is on the right):
