Just why was Santorum on CREW's '20 most corrupt members of congress' in 2006?

I decided to do some digging and found the actual report which includes a 12-page section on just why Rick Santorum was among three members of the senate on this list.

See for yourself here (Santorum on page 207)

Here are a few excerpts from the section. There are many more allegations that take more than a single paragraph to explain.

Illegally garnered tuition funds for his children from the Penn Hills school district?

The fact that Sen. Santorum ignored the Penn Hills school district's residency requirements and enrolled his children in a cyber school in Pennsylvania at a time when they clearly resided in Virginia -- at significant cost to Pennsylvania taxpayers -- demonstrates a level of dishonesty that brings the reputation and integrity of the Senate into question.

Accepted >$40,000 from private weather service companies?

Sen. Santorum's bill, titled the National Weather Services Duties Act of 2005, would have required the taxpayer-funded National Weather Service to collect weather information using taxpayer money, but only distribute it to private sector weather companies like AcuWeather and the Commercial WeatherServices Association (CWSA). The National Weather Service would be permitted to share weather information directly with the public only in the case of severe weather.

Received a 5-year, $500,000 mortgage that he didn't qualify for?

Given that "loans" are included in the definition of "gifts," that Sen. Santorum did not meet Philadelphia Trust's clientele crieteria, and that the Senator was not, in fact, a bank client at the time he received the mortgage, Sen. Santorum violated Rule 35 by accepting a mortgage from Philadelphia Trust.

Santorum was able to downplay

Santorum was able to downplay it as well as the radio lackeys just by saying it was funded by Soros or something. As if what is reported is not true, when it is.

Wait?!?

I thought he said it was because he was so darn conservative???
