James 1:25

Today I decided to try out a daily bible reading app on my phone. Well, wouldn't you know it, the following passage (James 1:25) comes up as the passage for today which I found rather interesting:

But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

So, for all of you out there working to promote liberty, be happy knowing that you are blessed.

Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

an inappropriate usage of this Scripture

Gentlemen,

It may be a nice piece of serendipity that this verse popped up. It's a great verse of Scripture. But nelsonwinters's use of it is a unacceptable use of this verse that borders on sacrilege. The verse has nothing at all to do with liberty as it's defined politically, still less with how Dr. Paul uses it.

Scripturally, the liberty spoken of here is not freedom from the law, but freedom to do the law of God. It's freedom and liberty from the bondage of sin that prevents us from doing God's law. It's freedom from the guilt that weighs down our conscience. It's freedom to know that sin is destructive, and is no freedom at all.

Conversely, the liberty espoused by libertarianism is freedom from external compulsion. Scripture could never countenance that any government had freedom to not protect the unborn, to allow homosexual "marriage", or to permit prostitution, to name a few. Yet all of these things libertarianism permits under its conception of liberty.

This may be the modern mainstream American definition of liberty, but it has nothing to do with Scripture. And it's wrong for it to be used as a promise of blessing to those supporting a political candidate.

Seriously,

Josh Congrove

Partially correct

The verse has nothing at all to do with liberty as it's defined politically... the liberty spoken of here is not freedom from the law, but freedom to do the law of God. It's freedom and liberty from the bondage of sin that prevents us from doing God's law.

I totally agree with you on this part.

However, I believe you are misunderstanding the principle in Ron Paul's views on marriage, prostitution, drug use, and other non-violent, non-property infringing actions.

Marriage should not be a government issue. It is a covenant instituted by God, and celebrated in the church. Don't even get a marriage "license". Why are we asking permission from the government to get married? If I told you that my dog and I are married, would you care? Probably not, because you know that marriage is between a man and a woman. So if some gay folk tell you the same, just know in your heart that it isn't true.

As for drugs and prostitution, these issues should be handled by the states just like all criminal laws. Murder is bad, but the federal government doesn't have any anti-murder laws. That is not the role of the federal government.

I would encourage you to study Ron Paul's position on these issues in his own words. I used to hold the same views as you did on these issues, but after understanding Ron Paul's argument, I have discovered that, once again, he is correct.

This is so beautiful!

Maybe I'll look for daily bible verse. My pet peeve is now labeling Christians as Evangelicals. I have some pet labels for them as well.
We need to call them on this!

Nice. My personal prayer is...

...that the blinders come off, the corruption is exposed, and that truth prevails.

Amen!

There was a blog post a little while ago that looked at Isaiah chapter I. But they didn't go far enough.

21 How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:

23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

24 Therefore saith the LORD, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

The Founders of this great nation abhorred tyrrany and loved liberty.

Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound;

I've been studying this perfect law of liberty recently, and I consider one of Ron Pauls greatest virtues is his meekness. This verse is the only one that came up in a search of the KJV that contained both "meek" and "liberty." It is difficult for me to believe that the Spirit is not upon Dr. Paul, annointed to preach good tidings unto the meek, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.

Interesting

and perhaps it was an important text to him before he came into his own.

off topic but I look for information on how people interpret "liberty"....what it means to them.

I like this:

I am looking into various religions...that according to their sacred texts...would approve of Ron Paul. So far...it looks like all of them if you look at their loftiest, most conscious
thinking.

NLT is probably easier to understand here:
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. (James 1:25 NLT)

SC is getting #AdBombed tonight on TV

I'm an atheist and I still follow good stories!

I've read the bible, I was brought up catholic. This doesn't mean I need to look to a deity to find my solace in the world.

I found you!

You are my inspiration to give, gift and be part of my community looking toward a good world. We help each other and through that we make humanity greater.

That is our purpose! Make ourselves greater together! That's the only way we can do it! Cooperation through honest competition, the best method so far devised to unite humanity!

Ron Paul forever, screw 2008 or 2012! This fight is eternal! The soul requires liberty and it SHALL LIVE ON!

Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

Bump!

Thank You!

Great verse for our Christian Statesman heading into S.C.!!

Hope Dr. Paul comes across this verse! We have got to have him defend his positions in strong scriptural terms if we have any hope of winning S.C.!!! Especially Prohibition and the Godly trait of allowing people the freewill to sin unto themselves only. Like gay rights. I would preach FREEWILL & Live & Let Live.

Today's Old Testament Civil Leaders expect more from others than from themselves which always requires them to use "force". However, New Testament Civil Leaders like the Honorable Dr. Ron Paul inspire "LIBERTY" by first setting a Godly example.

Old testament civil leaders

Just wanted to bump the Old Testament for a sec. I was reading Ezekiel 23 and it warns of entangling foreign allegiances. My mind went straight to Rand Paul vs. Marco Rubio on the subject of Georgia getting into Nato. And it reminded me of the only person I've ever heard call into question our agreement with Nato, Ron Paul. When ancient Israel made alliances with foreign powers it influenced them in dangerous ways. So too when we ally with some country it can affect us in dangerous unintended ways.
Many times the ancient Israelites would turn to entangling alliances to guarantee their freedom and end up giving up their freedom. The only true source of any and all freedom is the creator. Even if you don't agree with me on the source, I'm glad you're fighting for freedom too. as the good dr. says "Freedom brings people together."

It's kind of a miracle, a little sweet miracle, because what are the odds a biblical verse so fitting to Dr. Paul would just pop up?

Law of liberty

The law of liberty that James is referring to is Torah. Man's law enslaves. God's law liberates.
