Paul Campaign To Republican Field: Drop Out, Unite Behind Paul to Defeat Romney

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire—Rep. Ron Paul's campaign called on the rest of the Republican field to drop out of the race and unite behind him in order to defeat Mitt Romney.

“We urge Ron Paul’s opponents who have been unsuccessfully trying to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney to unite by getting out of the race and uniting behind Paul’s candidacy,” campaign chair Jesse Benton said in a statement.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Jan 10, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ron Paul tonight scored an historic second-place victory in the 2012 New Hampshire Primary. Below please find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:

"Ron Paul tonight had an incredibly strong second-place finish in New Hampshire and has stunned the national media and political establishment.

"When added to Paul's top-tier showing in Iowa, it's clear he is the sole Republican candidate who can take on and defeat both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

"The race is becoming more clearly a two-man race between establishment candidate Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, the candidate of authentic change. That means there is only one true conservative choice.

"Ron Paul has won more votes in Iowa and New Hampshire than any candidate but Mitt Romney.

"Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have been shown in national polls to be the only two candidates who can defeat Barack Obama.

"And Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are the only two candidates who can run a full, national campaign, competing in state after state over the coming weeks and months. Ron Paul's fundraising numbers -- over $13 million this quarter -- also prove he will be able to compete with Mitt Romney. No other candidate can do all of these things.

"Ron Paul is clearly the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney as the campaign goes forward.

"We urge Ron Paul's opponents who have been unsuccessfully trying to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney to unite by getting out of the race and uniting behind Paul's candidacy.

"Ron Paul has the boldest plan to cut spending, a dedication to protecting life, and a lifelong dedication to the Constitution and limited government. He also has the necessary support to campaign nationwide against Mitt Romney.

"Our campaign is already planning ahead for South Carolina, Florida, and beyond. Soon Ron Paul will head to South Carolina to begin a feverish round of campaigning.

"Ron Paul is in this race for the long haul. And he is ready to fight.

We need to do our part to get this picked up by news outlets and MSM.

If we work hard and get the narrative to follow this line, we can win.

Read "Human Action"

This book has so much transient application to virtually everything affected by physical philosophy. The abstract is consuming the ambiguous. This is a problem, however, this is also changing.

Whichever transcendence prevails is irrelevant. History often puts into material legacy, bad ideas.

Say what?

Congratulations from Britain,

Yeah Baby!

This is EXACTLY what Ron Paul needed to do and EXACTLY the right time. Don't get me wrong, nome of the other candidates are EVER going to endorse Ron Paul.

But if Ron Paul were any other candidate, this would make perfect sense. And to the voters who don't realize that the political insiders are calling the shots for all of the remaining candidates, they might just see the logic behind this.

Ron Paul has nothing to lose and might open a few more eyes.
Good move.

Well said! Lets do this

Well said! Lets do this people. Start promoting this on all social mediums!!

I was wondering why they weren't attacking Romney this round. It all makes sense now brilliant strategy. The Ron Paul wrecking crew pulverized the snot out of the lesser candidates to the point they haven't a hope of ever beating Romney let alone Obama. Now their supporters have the choice supporting their lost cause candidates into obscurity or to join Ron Paul and the true conservatives against Mitt "Obama lite" Romney. The choice is becoming clearer and clearer every passing day and they can no longer deny it. This is huge! This stunningly simple subtle and remarkable strategy. It's just a two man race now and Romney doesn't stand a chance. I'm really excited by the boldness and real prospects of this campaign! Congrats to the campaign and to the new Hampshire Ron Paulers out there new and old, your efforts and performance were nothing short of heroic in service to your country, the Constitution and to your fellow Americans. Celebrate and sleep well knowing you have the gratitude admiration of a greatful nation, indeed the world! If not greatful now they will soon when they finally realize who Ron Paul is and what he stands for! Way to go everyone! On to South Carolina!

Wow - Perry just called Romney a Vulture Capitalist

I understand Paul does not agree, but this signifies a huge fissure in the Republican Party. Paul is carving out a brand new conservative (actually an enduring notion) identity that he can exploit all the way to victory in November. It is Main Street conservatism vs. Wall Street conservatism.

I'm probably going to write an

I'm probably going to write an article about this, but to me, this just goes to show how hypocritical the Republican party is. They say they are for small government, low taxes, and free-markets - yet, in all cases, they do the opposite.

This new anti-free market initiative by Gingrich, Perry and Santorum should be appalling to anyone in the Republican party. They are sounding like liberals. Is it really so hard for everyone not to see?

Far be it from me to defend Mitt Romney. He is a CFR puppet, just like Obama. However, they are attacking him on one of his good qualities - that he actually did well in the free-market. Sure, he had help and he belongs to a rich and successful family, but he didn't violate any individual rights at Bain Capital.

This is truly remarkable that Republicans across the board are now criticizing Romney for this.

The thing is, they can't attack Romney on anything that matters, because it would validate everything Ron has been saying. So they are stuck. They either vindicate Ron, or show their true big government, liberal colors.

They Don't Say It Because They Are Liberals

They say it because they are self-serving opportunists.

Gingrich and Santorum are particularly disgraceful, since they made their money on the backs of the American taxpayers.

"Bipartisan: both parties acting in concert to put both of their hands in your pocket."-Rothbard

True. I would "self-serving"

True. I would replace "self-serving" with "short-sighted", because when this collapse happens, or when Ron takes the presidency, they'll regret their past behavior. It won't seem so self-serving at that point.

It's time for the real deal holyfield MONEY BOMB!!!

It's officially a two man race. No more of this 5 million dollar BS. Let's get the mother of all money bombs organized. Our boy needs some serious cash to offset Mittens. It's time to unleash the beast. I'm thinking the weekend of the 20th to the 22nd. That gives the campaign time to hit the Florida airways and get all these NeoCons down here properly educated. Also will help with NV.

Bold and risky but I like it,

Bold and risky but I like it, they need to do something bold and and risky at this point because Romney for whatever reason is clearly the front runner. I also think that this is the only chance they have at a good showing in South Carolina. If the rest of them unite behind RP it gives them a chance to make some noise. Romney is a moderate AND a mormon and the evangelicals dont typically take kindly to either. BUT, they will grudgingly rally around Romney if thats what it takes to get the Muslim from Kenya out of the White House. South Carolinians ultimately want anybody but Obama.

HArd to ask to unite behind Paul if...

Hard to ask to unite behind Paul if the Paul campaign doesn't play at all in Florida.

I saw in one of his CNN

I saw in one of his CNN interviews (I think the one here about him defending Mitt's fire people statement) where he explained to Blitzer they'd do what they can in Florida but he wants to pour money into states that give proportional delegates. I think Florida also gave up a bunch of delegates for some procedural reason. It's where you can spend millions in television ads and if you come in second you get nothing for it. Of course you would still get name recognition being in second. I was thinking this is where the super brochure comes in.

That's what I was thinking

I love the boldness of it and the logic behind it but with a possible 4th place in SC coming up and not competing in FL this seems pre-mature.

Very bold move.

And perfectly timed! This is the stuff that sets Ron Paul apart from the others. Now let's see if any of the candidates take this advice.

Like a boss!

These bold strategic moves

These bold strategic moves the campaign has been making has set Ron Paul apart. This forces people to talk about him, instead of leaving it up to the press to ignore what we already know... This is Ron Paul VS Mitt Romney.

yes the BOLDEST plan!!!!

that's awesome how they're reaching out to the Cain supporters in this press release. If you're looking for a "Bold Solution" look no further than Dr. Ron Paul!!!!

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Paul should steal the thunder from Newt and challange Romney to a one on one debate this week. Romney would be forced to debate or say no - a win win for Paul.

One on one Dr. Paul would destroy Romney - we have momentum, the campaign should push for this. I know Newt tried it with Cain but those two never had broad support. This is a perfect way to 'attack' Romney.

Of course Romney will never agree to it but that would allow Paul to begin to really attack him on his record.

My 2 cents.

Don't forget Paul and Romney are the only two

that made it on the ballot in all 50 states!

Mathew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Yeah was hoping to see that

Yeah was hoping to see that as part of the press release. It should be a card played.
