Tonight Was A Good Night

0 votes

I'm worried some of you are a bit too new to political campaigns (particularly presidential ones) to put tonight in proper perspective.

First, no conspiracy theories. If you think that the vote was rigged, you are just not thinking straight.

Ron Paul did great tonight. Think about it. For months we have been hearing that Ron Paul can't break into double digits in the polls. Well he did tonight ... in an election. And he's right on the heels of McCain and Thompson. I don't think he will catch them, but he doesn't need to.

I think the most honest interpretation of Iowa is that the race is wide open. Iowa doesn't have a good track record at predicting the party nominees. It's actually done very poorly at that in recent decades. If you thought Iowa was a great state for Dr. Paul I think you were over optimistic.

So, I know for some of you this burst your bubble. You were hoping for a Ron Paul landslide. Okay, so reality has kicked some dirt in the face of your image of reality: OUR WORK HAS JUST BEGUN AND THIS WILL BE A LONG RACE. But don't let the bursting of your image of reality make you not smile at the beauty of this reality. Ron Paul has real support. Significant support.

So keep up the work. This is far from over. The good Doctor is going to need our help. So tonight wasn't the wild dream we might have pined for. But it isn't a bad night. Far from it.

It's not a good state for us to start in, but we didn't have a choice, so we did the best we could. It's all about delegate totals. If you understand that there is more to this than popular vote, you are getting educated on elections. It's going to take canvassing. Go to the sign up for canvassers at the ronpaul2008.com and get your precinct list and get canvassing if you are not already. If you are past your deadline to switch parties, just canvass Republicans. Hit them with a slim jim and some love, and we can pull this off, nationwide. Love from St. Pete, where the Blimp is flying tomorrow!

I very much agree with the

I very much agree with the OP that we can celebrate the results of Iowa as we head toward NH. But, please, don't insult people who are concerned with election fraud unless you have solid evidence that it didn't happen, which you don't.

Bev Harris over at http://www.blackboxvoting.org is working her arse off in this area and has already pointed out many peculiarities from yesterday's caucuses. There is no reason on planet earth why some precincts forced the public to leave before the votes were counted. There is no reason that the Iowa GOP and the national GOP don't demand that all votes be counted in public, that these votes be tallied into county-wide totals in public, which are then tallied for the state total in public. That they don't do this is nothing short of criminal. What do they have to hide? What on earth is fair and honest about refusing to provide a detailed precinct by precinct vote count to the public, or are you even aware that they refuse to do this?

Election fraud in America is real, possibly an epidemic, and it will certainly be employed to stop Ron Paul from winning. To insult people who care deeply about this issue by calling them "conspiracy nuts", when its a proven fact that election fraud has and continues to occur is divisive and counterproductive.

Victory is the product of

Victory is the product of winning mindset. Use this moment to be appreciative of HOW MUCH has been accomplished, in UNBELIEVABLY short time, against near complete denial and resistance from the MSM... until now.... how we handle this moment is the essence of the next moment... are we coming into the next round like winners ? Do we give off the aura of animal spirits ? Are we demonstrating excellence and the capacity to grow ? Are we adaptable ? Does this thing look like it has the guts to go the distance ? THATS what the MSM jackals are in a twist about.

10% a good start

Although I was disappointed that it wasn't higher, 10% is a good start. I think it is important to have increasing support going into Super Tuesday. With NH coming up with a higher expectation the momentum will roll upward. Huckabee will be seen on a downward trend and losing momentum. So this isn't so bad and may actually be the best way to start.

10% is very respectable

Especially in the land of the "Give me federal corn subsidies or give me death!" mentality prevalent in Iowa. I think Larry King was right - Ron "didn't fare badly" at all. And looking forward, I believe that the wisdom coming from the McLaughlin Group is right. To quote:

Eleanor Clift, conventional wisdom on the hoof, said on The McLaughlin Group that 'Ron Paul with his antiwar libertarian message will be the story coming out of New Hampshire for the Republicans.'"

So take that!

A lesson we can pull out of this.

I was listening to a live broadcast last night and what I heard was that given the opportunity to speak on our candidates behalf, we failed. Not many spoke up. Next caucus, bring a prepared speech. Caucuses have a persuasion element. We are intellegent enough to write a moving speech and win a few more percentage points. C'mon poeple, speak out!

Hearts and Minds

I do not think Dr. Paul should completely change his tactics, nothing of the sort. However, I do think he needs to have a few emotionally based speeches, or at least sprinkle his delivery with some emotionally based rhetoric that wraps his message. I looked at all of the other candidates' delivery speeches for the Iowan last minute wrap up. All were tugging at the heartstrings of American values and hearts. Yes, I think having a message like this all of the time is completely disgusting, however effective it seems to be. Obama and Edwards never really say anything with meat to it, but they sure do appeal to the heart. So does Hucky for some reason.

I just think Paul could translate a bit of his sound platform into more of an emotional delivery once in a while. Some people vote with their heart and not their head. I believe Paul can do this and should do this...again...once in a while. Thoughts?

Did about like I expected

Hey guys and gals, let's put our heads together, be sensible, and figure this out. This is exactly what we should have expected. Ron Paul finished 5th in the Iowa Straw Poll too. He only got 1300 or so out of 33,000 votes, which is about 4%. So, I'm very pleased at a 10% showing. Rudy finished 8th in the straw poll as another example of the trend in IA continuing. I didn't expect either one of these candidates to do great in IA. Ron Paul just doesn't do as will in Iowa as he does in a lot of the other states.

They had a record turn-out in Iowa last nite, and most of those people were from the religious right side of the party, and they aren't going to go for Paul (even though they should).

He did as well or better than one could've expected. Rudy too. (The only reason I mention Rudy is that some people on here seem surprised that he didn't do so well... but he didn't do well in the Iowa straw poll either, just like Dr. Ron.) So the trend in IA continues. So what. Iowa's not the whole U.S. There are 50 more states to go.

Look at it this way. If the trend continues, and we do as well in the primaries as we did in the straw polls... losing the states we lost in the straw polls... and winning the states we won in the straw polls...

WE'RE HEADED FOR A LANDSLIDE RON PAUL VICTORY!!!

Be encouraged people. He did way better than their stupid polls predicted... just like we said. That will give some momentum going into NH, which I expect Ron to do well there... increasing the momentum until the msm have to pay more and more attention.

RP needs RP: Ron Paul is the hope for my country, too!

I am from what you have been calling as the Third World.

It is a fact that the US has been interfering with the domestic affairs of my country [RP], imposed or solicited by our own corrupt leaders, including state-sponsored terror; and that whoever you choose this November will greatly impact on the future of my countrymen.

I see in Ron Paul the capacity not only to bring the US to its rightful place in the community of nations, but to be a model for all future leaders of any country in this world. You are so lucky to have one like him.

In contrast, what the hell happened? I mean... what were you thinking when you "elected" Bush to the office? And now, Huckabee? My goodness! You, of all peoples of the Earth, certainly are capable of something and someone better.

We don't need another NeoCon from either parties or from Hell. Thank you for kickin' out Giuliani. But that's not enough.

We need a forward-looking, broadminded, people-oriented, anti-war, anti-status quo, and most importantly, a truth-driven leader. And I see that in Ron Paul.

You need HIM.

RP, and the rest of the Third World need him, too. We need someone who could change US foreign policies that is founded on mutual respect, and non-interference.

So from the bottom of my heart, I'm appealing to all US Citizens who love peace and freedom, please send him to the White House. The figures from IOWA Caucus tell only one thing.... that You CAN do it!

Mabuhay!

Iowa Doesn't Matter.

Ten percent is okay, and I'd hoped for a better showing. I'm not going to claim a rigged election, either (thought I'm suspicious, as we all should be). The fact is, Iowa means nothing. If you watched CSPAN2, and other channels last night, it was almost all senior citizens at the polls. Not exactly Paul's base. Most of them probably hadn't left the farm since the elections of 2004, and Faux and CNN are their main source for "news". I'd bet many of them don't use the internet (do they have the internet in Iowa yet?), or even own one of 'dem new-fangled computer contraptions. They're like many modern Americans - they're SHEOPLE. Faux News (and CNN) distorts, they complied - thats the real scary part.

My point is, Iowa is NOT a true cross section of America, and is NOT the hot bed of Ron Paul's freedom movement. They're not the hot bed of any real political movement at all. The MSM would have you believe the Iowa Caucus is somehow super vital to the election of the president, but its NOT. Only something like a quarter of a million (250,000) people even participated. Out of a nation of 300 Million? How is that a fair sample? There are still 49 states left. On to New Hampshire!!

You're Right

At first, the numbers out of Iowa seemed a little disappointing, but you are right: Iowa was a huge step in the right direction. One out of ten people in Iowa voted for Dr. Ron Paul! That's huge. Only a few thousand votes out of 100,000 separated us from the top 3. No, it wasn't the big media coming-out party we wanted, but it shows us that Dr. Paul is starting to be heard.

Stay strong! We need to learn from Iowa!

Obviously allot of people voted at the last minute....so here's a couple things I see:

1. We need to concentrate on issues that distinguish us apart from the others.
A.Monetary Policy (the invisible tax)
B. Non-Inter. Foreign Policy.
C. The Economy and out of control government spending
D. Why another George Bush is going to be a disaster
E. War on Drugs.

Everything else, that in effect, makes us look the same, is not something to concentrate on.

2. We need to appeal to a wider range of voters. Women and those over 29. ( I think showing the effects of 1 in 31 being in jail from the War on Drugs and it's effect on families may sway Women and older voters emotionally)

3. We have to get to work!

Character is not built on easy, it's built on hard. In the initial months of the Revolutionary War, it looked hopeless, but they fought on! We need to show our character...just like Rocky Balboa...people admired him because he just won't quit! That shows them, the heart and the passion, we have for the issues that matter!!!

Yeah, we do need to learn from IA

IA is a 'Christian' state. They voted for the candidate they felt best reflected their values. Unfortunately, they voted for a lie.

Now, I'm not an advocate of smear campaigning, but I am an advocate for telling the truth. We NEED to make sure that Huckabee's (as well as Romney's) facade is seen thru by voters.

Think of this as a 50 inning baseball game. We scored 10 points in the first!

Hillary *the sure thing* came in third, now that's a Bad Day!

With all her lobby money, and riding high in the polls, she craps out in third place behind Edwards, so imagine how depressed they are!

We have a candidate that won't embarrass us with skeletons in the closet, or negative campaigning, or bad temper tantrums, so we will rise steadily.

Look at the ground Romney has had to make up. He had a really bad day today too.

And Rudy, OMG, that was just aweful THREE percent! Notice the MSM isn't really talking about that egg on his face.

And finally, even the Fox talking heads suggested Ron Paul should be included in the upcoming debate (thanks Greta!)

Today wasn't the big surprise we had hoped for, but it wasn't all bad either. Start waving those signs, wearing those t-shirts and buttons, and get those bumper stickers on asap!

On a personal note, my diehard Democrat mother just said she'd vote for RP in the NJ primary! It took me over three months, but I finally got to her! Hooyah!

We need more delegates!

The caucus and primary results are great, but if we don't have the delegates it's not going to account for much at all. If you haven't tried becoming a delegate in your state, do it now! Directions for doing so are on RonPaul2008.com. For the love of freedom and liberty, we cannot let this opportunity pass us by!

I saw that too! No Ron Paul

I saw that too! No Ron Paul stump speech pre-vote.

Paul's Trajectory is still Great

Huckabee is on the downhill side of his rise. People have already found out more about him than they want to know and they'll be turning to look for someone better. That's what happens when you peak too soon. The others make sure your skeletons come out.

Lucky for us our candidate doesn't have any. He's still rising.

Although I note that donations are lagging behind the Huckster, today.

BOYCOTT CNN

I'm no conspiracy theorist or anything, but I really think the most interesting development of the day was how Ron Paul can get 3% less than McCain or Thompson, and pull 10% of the vote, and yet CNN can't even be bothered to put his name on a pie chart. Instead of showing his significant percentage, they put a big gray blob that included Paul, Giuliani and whats-his-face, the last place guy. WTF? I guess they assumed people would rather see a gray blank space than interesting information. I know the media is biased, but this was just ridiculous. I mean - they didn't even put an "others" field - it was just a blank space. Fox News or MSNBC didn't really show him much either, but it wasn't quite as obvious as CNN's exclusion. I think this merits the same response from the RP Revolution that Fox News' exclusion did - boycott.

Had they put Paul's name and percentage visibly on the pie chart, he would have become a much bigger talking point. He scored almost twice the score in Iowa the media was predicting even yesterday, and proved to be as competitive as McCain, Thompson or Giuliani. He won some counties.

Yet there seems to be a strange media blackout - and not just from the MSM. Google News doesn't even mention him - all the articles are from a day ago. Do a google search "Ron Paul Fifth Place Iowa." I find a bunch of stuff about the Ames straw poll, but very, very little about the caucus. It's kind of eerie. This was one of the only Ron Paul forums I could find that was active.

Ok, he didn't win or even place third. I wasn't necessarily expecting him to. I don't let my hopes get ahead of my realism, unlike many RP supporters do. If he can carry 10% in a state like Iowa, which, as others have mentioned, is built on unions, evangelism and farm subsidies, he definitely can mount a credible campaign.

Actually, I'm kind of pleased with the results of the front runners even. Obama is the least statist of the three Democratic front runners and has the best foreign policy. Huckabee supports the FairTax and the abolition of the IRS. Maybe it's blasphemy, but I support both on immigration more than I support Ron Paul. It could be worse...While both have a lot of stuff I disagree with, I'd say they're better than the other mainstream contenders. at least it's not Hillary vs. Giuliani, in which case I might just move to Canada. But here's to hoping Paul does well in NH and suprises everyone.

you had me until you got to *uckabee

Please don't mention the H. word. You are right, it IS blasphemy. You think you are in hell now with the Bush regime, wait until H. gets into power of the world. Of course he's really just a bumbling, lying idiot with an evil underbelly who thinks nothing of using God's name to further his power, destroying evidence (computer hard drives), teaching his son to slit the throat of a dog... oh it just doesn't stop, the skeletons this one has.

H. has also stolen the idea of abolishing the IRS from Ron Paul after one of his debates (his nickname is Tax Hike Mike), just recently stolen the idea of calling his camp a "Revolution" from Ron Paul supporters, and stolen the idea of a Huckabomb from Ron Paul's supporters to raise quick money (although his was an abysmal, embarrassing failure).

Please. Do not praise the H word around here. It makes some of us very queasy and others of us violently ill. Please do not taint the good, decent, truthful name of Dr. Paul with the H. word.

Thank you.

You are so right

And people will have a hard time calling Ron Paul a second tier candidate because he is beating the infamous "G"

But most of all we are winning because the message of Liberty and the Constitution are being spread at a rate that has the neocons running scared.

That is Victory and there are still a few hours for Iowa and the other 49 states left!

I was watching CNN and the Politico interactive map. CNN had a lower number of votes for Ron Paul than the Politico interactive map, so i thought CNN hadnt updated yet. But NO, the tally on Politico went down! resulting in 9.98% for Paul... WHAT IS GOING ON!!!?

How to get out the younger vote

I was pleased with Dr. Paul's performance tonight. Very encouraging!

Watching CSPAN2 at the Republican caucuses I noticed how the caucus rooms were filled with old coots (no offense intended; I'm one myself). When I did see a younger voter, chances are he/she was wearing something Ron Paul. I'm wondering if we can do something to get more college-age voters to participate in the primaries. Perhaps we should have a particular day for an effort to put a big ad in every college and alternative newspaper in the country; an ad that would speak particularly to that age group on the issues and persuade them to do something to change their country and their future - vote! Thoughts on this?

The "Younger Vote"

We have to keep in mind that this is mid-term Winter Break for colleges and the greatest majority of college students are at home or on winter vaction (or in New Hampshire) ...
