Rand Paul = Vice President?
Submitted by C_T_CZ on Thu, 01/12/2012 - 13:03Hi everyone,
I'm committed 1000% behind Ron Paul. I will write him in if he does not get the nomination, and will *not* support any Big Government candidate (meaning Obama and the whole Republican field except Ron). I have voted Libertarian my whole life but switched in '08 to Republican just to cast a vote for Ron Paul.
I join many at the DailyPaul in believing that Ron Paul is a national treasure. I love how he is changing the political landscape of our country (for the better). He is indeed making a huge mark in history. I am disgusted at the GOP establishment and MSM in how they have tried to ignore, belittle, and marginalize this true American patriot and statesman. I can easily make the decision to never vote Republican again and return to the Libertarian party. "Screw these anti-Liberty Republican bitches" is the phrase that comes to mind.
I recently read some comments in different places suggesting that if Romney wins the nomination, he would pick Rand Paul as his running mate - to sway the Paul vote to his side.
I realize we have many more battles to come in the nomination process and anything can happen. Again, I am doing all I can here in Michigan to help Ron Paul and I know we have an nationwide army of like-minded people. All of us are 1000% committed to President Ron Paul, almost all of us would take a bullet for him, and almost all of us will *not* vote for anyone else.
That said, I would be tempted to vote for Romney should he choose Rand Paul as a running mate, for three reasons.
Reason 1) I believe it would be immensely satisfying for Ron Paul to have his son vaulted to VP, and would justify his years of unwavering energy and dedication to the cause of Liberty;
Reason 2) It would be an acknowledgement from the GOP that the Liberty wing of the Republican party is strong and getting stronger, and gives us much more clout in future election cycles;
Reason 3) It would be a vaulting point for Rand to pursue presidential aspirations in the future.
Again, the overriding point here is we all want Ron Paul to be president, and I am not backing down at all from this. All else being equal, I WILL NOT vote for any other candidate.
However, if Romney wins the nomination, picks Rand as his running mate, and Ron issues an official statement backing the action, it is possible that I may consider it.
I'm wondering about what you all think about something like this?

Vote in ranked-ballot fun-poll for Ron Paul's vice president!

The GOP needs Ron Paul's supporters
much more than Ron Paul's supporters need the GOP.
If this comes down to a negotiation, don't forget who has the leverage.
Rand Paul IS NOT Ron Paul
and Romney is not someone we want anywhere near the White House. Ron Paul or not at all. But go ahead and have your fun with the hypotheticals. If anyone but Dr. Ron Paul becomes our next President, my son will be getting out of the military as a conscientious objector and the whole family (mom, dad, five kids, son's wife. daughter's husband, and a grandchild) will be moving to some other country like Canada or perhaps Chile. But go ahead, have your fun.

This is a distraction,
This is a distraction, another way the MSM think we will give up on our choice and vote with the status quo. This is a waste of time and thought power, at least till after the convention.
From A Republican party point of view
That is the only way, not saying its perfect or I agree, but its the only way to unite the divided Republican party. The problem the Republicans have is they can't win with out us. Can RP and Rand influence the party to the point such a coalition could happen? We all know what would have to be agreed to, it just depends on how much compromise the Republicans are willing to make and how bad they want to win.
If part of the negotiations was that O'Reilly, Hannity, and Rush did their shows with a dunce hat on wearing a "Sorry, Ron Paul was right" shirt for a year, Yea, I would vote for that.
If Rand were the VP, I definately would vote for him.
The fight for Liberty and Freedom is a war, not a battle. Ron Paul has advanced the ball down field and getting Rand on the ticket would represent getting into the Red Zone, imo. While I would rather it was Ron Paul as the Presidential nominee, when given the chance to vote for Rand Paul as the VP, I would do that in a heart beat. This would signal a gradual move towards liberty by the Republican Party. For Rand Paul to accept the VP nod, Romney would most certainly have to give the Liberty movement some concessions [we have never gotten any concessions in the past; therefore, this represents progress]. IMO, Rand will one day be the President of the United States and running as VP would give him an awesome training platform. In addition, this would vault Rand ahead of Sarah Palin in the pecking order. Palin is still very young and lurking out there, no doubt she will make a Presidential run some day.
Careful what you wish for
After reading lots of rumor about this on different websites, I'm beginning to think a Romney/Rand ticket is plausible. I'm starting to think that even the neocons would like it. Remember the old saying, "The vice-presidency isn't worth a warm bucket of [spit]"?
Rand is a rising leader in the GOP and the establishment knows it. They know they can't kill him off (figuratively, I mean) so what better way of getting rid of him than taking him out of the Senate where he has real power and sticking him in a meaningless but symbolically significant post? If Romney loses and Rand runs for President in 2016, they come back and say "we can't nominate another loser." If Romney wins, they're rid of Rand for 4-8 years and they just back someone else in 2020.
I don't understand why this is even a discussion...
Let's put this into perspective, C_T_CZ:
Romney, Paul, and Mr. Flavor-of-the-Week are in a race... on foot. Let's say Paul is in second-place, just behind Romney, who is in first. You, and the rest of us, are in the stands, rooting on our guy. Now you know for a fact that Paul's eyes are on Romney, and Paul is gaining tremendous momentum and is coming extremely close to overtaking Romney to claim 1st place.
Do you...
A) Shout LOUDER for Paul to run harder, and proceed to become even more undignified.
B) Go get a hot-dog.
C) Gather up a group of people to discuss what will happen if Paul loses, put together a list of potential scenarios in said event, and proceed to design various plans of action, just in case Paul doesn't win.
Based on your post, you've chosen C).
Please, please, please, reconsider your entire thought-process regarding this race. Please bank on and have faith in a Paul win. These "scenarios" are just distractions that take our eyes off of the race... not to mention, this line of thinking gives insight into just how much the media has convinced us that Paul will not win.
P.S. Keep up the good work in promoting liberty. :-)

I think the comments more
I think the comments more suggest that Romney would attempt this. Rand be on his short list (if you don't think Rand Paul would make Romney's actual short list, you really don't understand politics). Whether he agrees or not would be a different story.
Rand VP
I doubt Rand would ever agree to this, he was raised by a man of conviction and principal. The idea that he would endorse Mittens by accepting a role as VP is absurd. Never going to happen.
If the history of man teaches anything, it is that the masses don't answer until a catastrophe is beating down the door.
I doubt Rand would jump on that grenade
Plus, would you want to be part of an administration that the people would want to forget?
If Rand wants a run at president, the last thing he wants is to be Romney's VP. Romney will run the country so poorly that people will be PRAYING for someone else in 2016. Rand wouldn't get to run. He'd have to sit idly by while the Dems vote Dennis Kucinich in .
Don't forget that even though
Don't forget that even though Thomas Jefferson was philosophically opposed to John Adams (and vice-versa), he still accepted to be John Adams' VP.
TJ even ran for president after his VP term was up and won...
So it is possible for people with opposing philosophical views to be on the same ticket.
Just sayin'.
That may be because the VP was the runner-up originally
Under the original system established by Article Two, electors could cast two votes to two different candidates for president. The candidate with the highest number of votes (provided it was a majority of the electoral votes) became the president, and the second-place candidate became the vice president.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_elec...
True
But let's just say we still had that original system in place, and Ron Paul came in 1'st and Romney 2'nd... Romney would have to be Ron's VP...
Nope, sorry but I will not,
Nope, sorry but I will not, under ANY circumstances vote for Romney. We all know the path that Romney would choose to take should he get elected and if he were to choose Rand as his VP, hewould only drag Rands name and reputation down with him. This would ensure that Rand would never have an opportunity to get elected POTUS and tarnish the liberty message in the process. I see nothing good coming out of a Romney nomination even if Rand were by his side.
I have to be able to look my young children in the eye and tell them that I did everything within my power to give them a good future. Voting for Romney is not even an option, unless Dr. Ron Paul selects him as his VP.
Sorry to burst your bubble..
Sorry to burst your bubble.. Even if Rand offered a VP and accepted it, I won't vote for Romney/Rand ticket.. Romney is a hack! It's all about principles..
I will never, under any circumstances...
vote for Romney.
Rand needs to stay in the Senate a few more years
unless his Dad gets nominated and picks him for the VP slot.
