Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination could be halted if South Carolinians turn out in droves at next week’s primary, pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax.
A high turnout would be good for Ron Paul, and it could just be enough for an upset in the Palmetto State, Zogby said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.

“There is one fly in the ointment, and that’s Ron Paul,” said Zogby, the CEO of IBOPE Zogby. “Ron Paul draws his support from cities and college campuses and young people — not only 18- to 29-year-olds, but those under-40 as well.
“So if there is a high turnout in South Carolina, Ron Paul could actually hurt Mitt Romney.”

But, to your other question, yes, people like F.U. Luntz are polling only Registered and Likely Republicans, so he and others of his ilk will not pick up the huge independent and cross over vote if it happens.

My comment is this: It's impossible for Romney to unite the party. He's not going to get the evangelical christians because of his Mormonism, and he's not going to get the libertarians because he's proved himself to be too much of a big-government man. Romney's support comes solely from those who perceive him to be the best chance at unseating Obama, and from those with a neo-con mindset. Sadly, that constitutes a very large number of people.

It's very possible to get 25-30% in south carolina. Tearing down newt and santorum is a big part of that. Also getting as many people out to vote will do the rest. Romney is NOT strong in this state. It is possible to out-right win it.

1) No one wants Romney but a very, very few high profile politicians. It's just a fact that the Baptists in SC refuse to help Romney in attaining his "Mormon godhead on earth". Trust me.
2) No one wants Perry but the SCGOP establishment (they came out for Perry super-hard), if they're able to pull it off with "sweet strong-arming" and calling in favors, Perry will be pushed upward and flatten all vote, maybe 4 ways - but SCGOP has egg on their face since Perry made a mess of himself and most SCGOP "normal people" aren't interested, are floundering, directionless and they no longer trust leadership.
3) Santorum is not seen as credible to the more "chilled" SC'ns, he's seen as hysterical. He has small and ardent following of supporters who endorse him (seemingly - from the way he's promoted) because of the struggle of his daughter's health problems and the campaign's use of "pulling at heart strings" and emotionalism. No kidding, it's part of his platform...sadly, I have the stump speeches to prove it.
4) Newt already tried to wrangle (aka "use") the Evangelicals here, a pastor(s) got the word out that this somewhat secretive "deal" may go down between Newt and the preachers and since then (well, really, before that even) Newt was summarily rejected. Only those with very short attention span like Newt Gingrich. These little old ladies here do not like Newt and probably would just as soon smack him with their pocketbooks and ask him how it feels.

I think RP picked up a lot of new supporters from his victory speech after the NH primary. It still amazes me though that so many people can be undecided. But then, I'm amazed the EVERYONE isn't supporting Ron Paul....yet!

As usual, Zogby pays homage to the Neocon lexicon when it comes to the word "conservative".
I guess it must be hard for guys like that to give up the moral high ground.

to the Regan faux-conservative worldview, even after the entire world had passed them by. Nothing is more absurd than the other GOP candidates trying to get to the "right" of Obama's foreign policy during the debates. The Generals wanted another 10k troops...the generals wanted to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2014- just ridiculous.
They hate Ron Paul because he takes on the establishment head on, and refuses to explain the world using their narrative. And once people see that actually, the Santorum Gingrich foreign policy is actually, by definition, quite liberal- there's no turning back.

He's a leftist,but he's done very well for himself and was a fair grader though he must have realized I was on the Right....

I live in Summerville and commute to Charleston every day.
I have seen No Ron Paul signs. I haven't seen ANY signs from the other candidates either. There are LOTS of Mittens ads on the radio and TV. That's about it. I know RP is running ads, but I don't watch alot of TV.
