Ron Paul's Open Door, Interviewed by a 5th Grader!

When I saw the headlines and video clips where the media portrayed Ron Paul as shunning a NH voter at the crowded restaurant, it has prompted me to share an experience that others should hear. I am preaching to the choir when I tell you that Dr. Ron Paul is the most genuine and sincere public official I have ever met.

In the summer of 2010, my daughter Jessica was nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington D.C. She was one of seven students to attend from Colorado.

I contacted our State Representatives and Senators to give my daughter an opportunity to meet them while in Washington. None of them would return our calls/emails. I then contacted Ron Paul's office. His staff was friendly and very inviting and scheduled a meeting. Congressman Ron Paul welcomed us into is Congressional Office, met with my daughter for nearly 20 minutes. She was able to interview him on various subjects including his nickname Dr. NO. He encouraged her to continue in her study, especially history and mathematics, and to keep doing what she and her fellow youth were doing. Our future lies in the hands of our youth and he believes this. Ron Paul posed for a picture, signed her Honor Roll award and provided a signed copy of a pocket constitution which he so eagerly hands out.

This left a lasting impression on both of us. There is no more honorable and deserving public servant than Congressman Ron Paul, not just for his open door policy, but for his lifetime commitment to his country, principles of liberty and fellow man. He is the only true candidate of the people.

I would love to see that picture and a post like this

I would love to see those pictures you got with your daughter and Ron Paul during her interview. Maybe post it to FaceBook and share it with us - then we can re-share it with everyone!

Brian, I loved reading this,

Brian, I loved reading this, thank you for sharing!

Do you suppose it annoys Mitt Romney

that in order to win the presidency he has to chum it up with the very same unwashed masses and ne'er-do-wells his security guards would normally keep at a healthy distance?

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

he won't meet with the lobbyists

but he will meet with the people. A true statesman.

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself." - Thomas Jefferson

won't meet with lobbyists is a misnomer...

they just don't bother him; his 'fidelity to the constitution' talk really just annoys the lobbyists.

probably why he had the time to meet with concerned American citizens like the student in this story.

Reminds me of another young lady and famous man.

Story goes that there was an elementary-school-attending girl who was having trouble with arithmetic. Suddenly, in the middle of the year, she started doing very well at it. Her parents were happy, but asked her what had changed. She said that this "nice old man" along the walk home had helped her with her homework, by explaining it so it made sense to her.

Of course they were happy for the improvement but concerned about the personal contact. So they had her introduce them to the "nice old man". He turned out to be professor Albert Einstein - doing his usual thing of helping a student "get it".

IMHO what Einstein was to math and physics (among other things a man who could explain and clarify the sometimes difficult subjects), Ron is to economics and politics. I'm glad your daughters had the opportunity to talk with him on more than a sound-bite basis.

Your story brought tears to my eyes

Thank you for sharing it. Distinctions are so important.

A vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.
A vote for liberty is always a vote for liberty.
I will vote for Ron Paul as either the nominee or as a write in.

Same here.

I hope we keep hearing more of these accounts.

I love Ron Paul!!!

Brilliant article that explains why we love Dr. Paul:

Ditto

It's just astounding to me that in a DC environment that we have, Dr. Paul is able to stay so centered and personable. Here's a big "screw you" to all the people that say he's just a crotchety old fart!

Again, I was NEVER questioning that interview did not happen.

Although, I think now, how it must have come across, and for that I apologize.

There is no Youtube..

I assure you my daughter did interview the Good Doctor.

My daughter recorded the interview, posed for a picture and drafted a transcript and trip report she subimitted to the teacher that nominated her. Unfortunately no video.

Oh...I did not mean it negative way, at all.

I strongly believe, Every Ron Paul supporter, by default, is honest person. So when I said "YouTube or it didn't happen" it was not literal. I thought it's saying on forum...to request YouTube URL, if there is any available.
It was not questioning whether the interview happened or nor, because it was never a question.
Once again, I am sorry for causing confusion/doubt.

seeknshare is correct

'youtube or it didn't happen' is just a funny figure of speech on the internets, it's not to be taken literally. he's just kidding.

If you still have the audio...

...you might be able to turn that into a Youtube. I believe your story though.

RON PAUL 2012 AND BEYOND - http://www.ronpaul2012.com/

Reenactment video?

Like the commercial Revolution Pac did in The Compassion of Dr Ron Paul. Shouldn't be too hard to add Ron Paul's audio; his consistent message allows to just insert verbatim audio from any number of his speeches.

Any video whiz kids want to take up this grassroots challenge?

that

would make a cool commercial.showing lines of lobbyist to all the politicians doors and Ron Pauls hallway empty ,allowing a constituent access to Dr.Paul

I will consider it, thanks.

I will consider it, thanks. Busy getting ready to go to my county convention as a Ron Paul Delegate in Iowa. Jessica is a Jr. Delegate. Gotta love those caucus states.

Great story...

I think you judge character by the little things.

I was watching him the other day after a town hall meeting having photos taken with supporters. He offered genuine greetings to each in a long line. In the interest of time, autographs were prohibited, but a few asked for them and he obliged. I heard him whisper to them, "We can get into trouble for this."

At one point, he bent down to get his water bottle and take a drink, and a lady passed through the photo spot. Dr. Paul wasn't sure if she got her photo taken and called after her as she was leaving and was asking everyone if she got her photo taken. I thought she was gone, but about 5 minutes later, she came back through the line. He said, "I'm glad you came back - I was worried about you!"

A man like him potentially gaining the highest office in the land, worrying about one lady getting her photo taken.

Another 5th Grader supports Ron Paul

Hi, this is Jasmine, Jessica's sitster. I also got to meet Ron Paul. He would make an awesome President. Well anyway during our visit with Ron Paul, I also got a to get a picture with him. I got my pocket constitution signed by him too. I am an honor student at North Scott Junior High. I am in 6th grade. I also got to go to the JrNYLC too!!!!! I got promoted to go to the Boston Alumni.

No kids of my own

No kids of my own but they are a major reason why I support Ron Paul. Why anyone concerned about their kids future would not vote for Ron Paul is beyond me. Here's to our future leaders. Whether he wins or not Ron Paul will lead the way by haven set a good example.

It is better to look dumb and not be, than to look smart and not be.

Awesome, Brian!

That's all I can say, otherwise I'd end up writing a book. And thanks!

Nobody better at caring and setting a good example

Such a nice nice person. So proud to call him an American and a fellow human. What an inspiration he has been for freedom, peace, and America

Seriously dumbfounded the way he gets treated by the press and warprofiteers. Disagree with him on policy if you must but forget the name calling and hater speech.

Love You Ron!!

Government is supposed to protect our freedom, our property, our privacy, not invade it. Ron Paul 2007

Great Story!

Dr. Paul is a great man! But many people do not know this. I wish Americans would do a little more investigating before picking their candidates. Then they would run across more articles like this one.

Jon Weckwerth

I simply love these kinds of stories.

The genuine warmth and caring attitude of this man cannot be denied. But he's not the only one. Just look at Mitt Romney in this video as he discusses treatment options with a terminally ill wheelchair-bound patient if you want to see true compassion: http://threeharmonies.blogspot.com/2012/01/mitt-romney-w-whe...

Yes,

Romney's coldness here, his utter lack of compassion, his turning away from and ignoring that wheelchair-bound patient makes me wonder how anyone could support him after viewing that video...
