This issue is SO important! I am in the middle of just such a battle. I am in the process of restoring a house in Colorado built in 1888 which has a very small steam running through the front yard. The house has never, in its history, been flooded. Yet during the permitting process I found out even though there are no issues with the regional agencies, the assorted Federal agencies, all under FEMA, which of course is now under the umbrella of Homeland Security have monopolized, through federalizing the flood insurance program and making it MANDATORY (as in no opt-out) virtual confiscation of any property which happens to have WATER even near it.
Example: I have been informed (in the permit) that if I exceed a pre-determined limit on total project spending as to their specification; ie: 1/2 of the value of the original house, that the house will be moved or 'DEMOLISHED'. Gee, a little harsh I'd say. Try bringing a 130 year old house up to current codes folks; It's expensive, nuff said.

Private property rights? Yea, until you hear - Hi, I'm from the Federal Government, and I'm here to HELP you. Be afraid - be very afraid.

An unconstitutional body doing things that aren't constitutional is pretty expected...can't wait till that agency gets shut down.

Those poor people. What an outrage!

This man is my hero. Just doesn't get any simpler than that.
