Ron Paul Highlights in South Carolina Debate - 1/16/2012

Video Thanks to Joe Plummer

[Thanks drheyde!]

It's crunch time in South Carolina. Five Republican presidential candidates will face off in a Palmetto State debate on Monday night, just five days before the first-in-the-South primary. South Carolina's primary is critical -- the Palmetto State's winner has been the eventual GOP nominee in every contested race since 1980. Fox News' Bret Baier will co-moderate the debate in Myrtle Beach.

Not blaming

just pointing out the obvious. Just on MSNBC they said Ron Paul had the worst night of the campaign. We dont know how this will hurt momentum. Just because someone says something does not mean they are not loyal to Ron Paul. The boos did not start until there was uncertainty in the answer. You have to learn to take a loaded question like that and hit it out of the park. Gingrich is a master at this. It almost looked like he was trying to hide his position and it was not clear what he believed.

That hurt alot.

Even if Ron Paul gave more eloquent responses....

...I think the order from high to the media whores would have been the same: Write a negative headline about RP.

This is all a coordinated attack.

If we owned the media, we would have reported the positives (and there were plenty!!). For example:

* Ron Paul again champions Freedom
* Ron Paul - the only one for a Christian foreign policy
* RP quotes Bible, gets mocked by pro war crowd (and then go on to write an article about the degradation of the audience)
* Ron Paul lone voice for Freedom on stage with enemies of freedom.
* Ron Paul, the only one who can beat Obama
* Ron Paul shines again in SC Debate!

The media would take the Sermon on the Mount and portray Jesus as a WEAK leader who is an idealist, and who is totally out of step with the mainstream.

They would paint truth in a negative light. They DO that about Jesus, and they do that about Ron Paul.

I watched just the highlights. And I thought he did well. I would give him an A. At least a B+.

MSNBC Always Rips on Dr. Paul After the Debates

What's new? Did you see the things that Lawrence O'Donnell said about him after the New Hampshire results? Dr. Paul sort of fumbled the bin Laden question, but was strong on everything else. Don't blame him for the ignorance and bloodlust of the SC crowd. I have zero doubt that after the last SC debate, Fox hand-picked groups and supporters that would be hostile toward Paul and cheer Gingrich and Romney. They were not willing to allow another backfire after the "legalizing heroin" attack in the first debate.

Don't blame him for the

Don't blame him for the ignorance and bloodlust of the SC crowd.

This debate was the best ever...

For one reason, god, sorry guys... But I didn't have to hear from Bachmann. I'm so glad I didn't have to sit through her B.S. Self proclaimed Tea-Party darling.. How many foster kids' she raised every single time she spoke!! (on the governments dime) Pandering to the audiance.. God, thank you for that!!! Those "Crazy eyes" that never seamed to blink with no eyebrows on a face lift, always talking about killing brown people.... I'm being rude, and i'm sorry.. but i'm so happy now!!!

Thank you Jesus for that!!!

a little decorum please

Let's not alienate Bachmann supporters. We have more in common with them than some of the other candidates.

This debate seemed like a struggle and a slog.

When the crowd boos the Golden Rule you know you're in hostile, Neo-Con, war-mongering, Arab-hating territory.

I only saw Dr. Paul's highlites. I missed the dabate and just as well.

There's nothing left I need to hear from these other clowns.

Romney is a GOP HACK-Shill who will do anything-say anything to get elected.

Yet he never actually gives AN ANSWER. It's always just generalities.

I'm hoping Perry drops out and endorses Dr. Paul but I doubt it. If he endorses Romney then it proves the fix is in and he loses ALL remaining credibility.

This was not a comfortable performance for Dr. Paul.

Somewhat painful to watch for me and I've seen about every public speaking engagement he has had for the past 4 years.

I don't know why tonight seemed so difficult and tedius - But it did. Perhaps he's getting tired of trying to drum the obvious truth into people's heads.

And Santorum saying Ron Paul is against the 2nd Amendment??? Huuuuh? That was just a huge LIE.

I give Dr. Paul tons of points for working so hard but this was not fun or comfortable for me to watch.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."

Stacked audience?

When Fascism goes to sleep, it checks under the bed for Ron Paul!

Paul did great, the Golden Rule wasn't booed

From what I gather from the highlights video, the good doctor did very well at this debate (as usual). The booing came when he wandered off to a little rambling detour; it had nothing to do with booing the Golden Rule. I think the audience wanted to hear good, strong, clear points from Dr. Paul, which they did, by all means -- with a little exception in that rambling moment.

Look at the bright side. Who knows, the first in the South might prove a FIRST for Ron Paul!

Drudge Report Poll!

Please vote. Ron Paul is only at 36%!

"The Price Of Freedom Is Eternal Vigilance."
Thomas Jefferson

Let's look at the bright side.

Romney did really bad yesterday, that's the good news from the debate. Many republicans DO NOT WANT Romney to be their nominee, which leaves the door wide open for Dr. Paul.

I think we WILL do very well Saturday!

Man your blind to that debate last night if you think that Ron Paul did well. I hope to heck he wins though...but that debate last night was a scarey one for me.

That's NOT what I said!

I didn't say Ron Paul did well yesterday, but I think he will do well in the primary.

The problem with Ron Paul in debates is when he loses his cool. That's the moment he usually loses focus on key points and starts 'rambling' (I don't like that word) all over the place. As far as I could tell, that's what happened on the OBL question yesterday, and it might have turned some people off.

But besides that one moment, he didn't do too bad.

If Only ...

If only that Bin Laden question and answer had not happened, I think we could see this debate as a decent one for Ron Paul if not a great one. We would be talking about Romney's stumbles and the fact that he was actually booed on the NDAA issue. I don't think I've ever seen Romney booed in a debate before. His answers are usually so pat, bland and safe that there's nothing to boo, even if you don't like him. Mitt actually looked a bit shaken by the booing. I think that's what we would be talking about today if our man had not flubbed on Bin Laden.

Focus, Focus, Focus.
Bullet points and periods at the end of sentences would go a long way in spreading the Freedom message.
He is the first to admit that he is an imperfect messenger with a perfect message. Can someone in his circle PLEASE help him communicate what we are all thinking. Dr. Paul, we support you 110%, and will until liberty is restored in America!!!

Audience an insult to South Carolina

Ron did quite well with most of his answers in the debate.
I think the big story was the audience.

Fox News put that loaded audience in that room, portraying it as representative of South Carolina. and it was a pure embarrassment. That audience gave the worst impression imaginable. It gave the impression that South Carolinians are bloodthirsty mindless ghouls of the underworld.
They should be ashamed.

I don't live in SC, but I have a hard time believing that they could be so evil there. So, I think it comes down to Fox selecting an unrepresentative audience, and embarrassing the daylights out of all South Carolinians with that audience.
If I did live in SC, I would be livid at that portrayal. If I were the Governor of SC, I would have Fox on the phone right now, demanding an apology on TV for that.

Again, this becomes a referendum on the unbelievable levels of media bias on Fox. Again they prove themselves "unfair, unbalanced, and un-American"/

And if the people in SC really ARE like that, then God help us all.

Judging by the comments I was very afraid, but...

the RP highlights were great! Don't sweat everybody. I loved how not only did he not get sheepish at the "negative campaign ad" question, but went the extra mile and criticized Santorum (deservedly) even more. It was quite humorous.

Even the OBL response wasn't "bad". Admittedly, it was long and boring. But it wasn't damaging or anything.

the people that voted for Perot were correct

Old man Bush lost due to Perot voters . The Media paints this as a bad thing. The term "Spoiler" was used to degrade the 3rd party and its supporters. When you look back at it in hindsite, the people that voted for Perot were correct. Back then the National Debt was 4 trillion. Thats less than a bail out today.
Wonder where we would be today had Ross Perot won ?

Tin Pan Miner

Thank you.

Thank you. My wife and I both voted for Perot. It would be a much different world, if he had won. He was a true leader (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Wings_of_Eagles), and not one of these cookie cut-out politicians. Actually, according to my memory and proven by Wikipedia sources, by the summer of 1992 Perot commanded a lead in the presidential race with 39% of the vote (versus 31% for Bush and 25% for Clinton). Unfortunately, through a series of internal squabbles and supposed CIA plants by the Bush campaign, matters began to unravel but he still garnered 19% of the general election vote.

Ron on Foreign Policy

I thought Dr. Paul did a good job of explaining military spending vs. defense spending. He did a great job with that.

When he was explaining his position on the killing of OBL, he did not articulate his position well. I know he has a great explanation of this position and it is one I agree with, but he did not deliver his response well on that issue.

I love Dr. Paul, and I will vote for him every time I get a chance.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

The OBL question / marque and reprisal

I think Dr. Paul was thrown off balance by being misquoted, if in fact he was. He seemed unsure of what it was he had said previously and struggled with his reply. At a moment like that it is best to give a short reply, "I object to XYZ." Then return to a strong talking point. He did neither of these two things. If this were a college debate class he would have lost points, but THIS IS NOT A DEBATE CLASS. People should be trying to learn who would be the best man to vote for as President--and not be looking for gotcha moments to harp upon who is the best debater. Always remember, those who are looking for the truth will find it.

Dr Paul is, of course, correct. Article I, Section 8, says "[The Congress shall have power to] ..grant letters of marque and reprisal..." This effectively "deputises" the recipient of the letter, making that individual an agent of the US and granting that agent legal authority, up to and including the use of lethal force, to carry out the specifics of the letter outside the boundaries of the US. OBL wouldn't have lasted long if there had been a billion dollar price tag on his head. Had this been done from the start, as Dr. Paul suggest on Sept. 12th 2001, America would have saved lives and treasure.

I absolutely agree with his position. I also agree that people should look at the record of the person they are voting for. Unfortunately, as we Paul supporters know all too well, they don't. They go on what they are spoon-fed from CNN/Fox/MSNBC/CBS/ABC ect.

What I was disappointed in wasn't the message. It was the delivery. I have heard him explain this position so clearly in the past, that I was surprised that it caught him off-guard tonight.

All in all, I think he did a great job explaining his positions. I just wish he could have a do-over for that one answer.

I feel like none of his other positions will get any air-time, but this one poor answer will be plastered all over the MSM. I wouldn't know why we would suspect that .....

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Ron's Statement of Faith

I have never seen this before tonight.
I figured I may not be alone in having not seen this.

On Ronpaul2012.com if you click the tab "about Ron Paul " and scroll down to the bottom , you will see in red "Click here to see Ron Paul’s Statement of Faith "
Or click link

Starts out " My faith is a deeply private issue to me, and I don’t speak on it in great detail during my speeches because I want to avoid any appearance of exploiting it for political gain. "

All I can say is we are lucky to have the good Dr. Paul as a choice.
Make it count !

Jon Stewart's easy life

Another GOP debate, another comedy routine for Jon Stewart.

This time the GOP audience booed the Golden Rule.

Stewart's writers are saying "thank you God".

People say they want honest politicians. When they get one, they boo.

Dr Paul: You are my HERO!

I do not use that expression lightly. You are the first.

Tonight you have done another magnificent job of spreading the message of freedom. God be with you as you bravely stand before the foe. As they roll their piercing, evil eyes, hissing and growling in disdain when they hear the words of truth and liberty, fresh blood dripping from their razor sharpened teeth, ferociously beating the drums of war. In their heated frenzy they don't realize they are exposing their soft, yellow underbellies, their jellyfish spines, and their(faux FOX)tails tucked between their legs, as they scurry off the platform surrounding themselves with security guards and a barbie doll stepford wife.

Did I just describe evil? I smell sulphur.
Excuse me while I get sick. OK, I'm back (wipes mouth).
I am so sick of the LIES!
I will continue to fight the good fight with my fearless leader.

GodSpeed Dr. Ron Paul, the bravest man I know!!!

A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man dies but once.

Department of Home Land Security

Just wait until some of us get the ID check by the DHS. You know the boys who pack the automatic weapons and surround a local Social Security office in Leesburg Florida. I guess old people are now terrorist. So what do we have now? A sitting president can order the assassination of an American citizen who has not been charged. He can lock up and American citizen for ten years who has not been charged. And we are about to get, he can strip you of your American citizenship if he even thinks you may do something wrong.
He who would give up his freedom for a measure of security deserves neither freedom or security. Franklin.

How big of a fool is Santorum

How big of a fool is Santorum to try to attack Dr. Paul on 2nd amendment rights? Is he serious? =D

Does anyone

Have a statistical break down of this debate? Talking time, number of times addressed, etc... It appears that even Perry was given more talking time and more direct questions. How is this justified considering the fact that Paul is technically in second and Perry is technically a non-factor? How can they place Santorum and Gingrich on both sides of Romney when Paul has accumulated more votes and delegates than both Gingrich and Frothy face. In regards to the twitter poll, the TV broadcast and the online broadcast aired two different versions of that poll. Paul was discussed much more favorably in the online version. Paul did great tonight... Especially of you just watch the highlights... But I guess I was expecting him to get more attention now that he is officially in second place.

an idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government

Most RP supporters need their rear ends kicked

I hope the subject line got your attention. RP has million of supporters. He runs a money bomb and gets just over $1 million in 2-3 days. To me that is a disgrace. There is only one way he can over come the main stream media and that is to plaster the air ways with adds, and that takes money and lots of it. Without money he can not over come their lies and his message is not going to get out, and it has to get out if we expect him to win. Most donations are around $25-$50. So as you can see by only getting a little over $1 million we could say that about 5% of his supporters are giving anything. That is not going to hack it. He has to reach those people who sit in front of their biased TV's. He already has us but he has to get them in order to win. MSM is not going to let him have them if they can help it. So please give. Don't sit around and wait on some one else to do it, if you do we are in big trouble. Give just $5 and we can win this country back. A small price to pay for our freedom.
