Ron Paul Highlights in South Carolina Debate - 1/16/2012

Video Thanks to Joe Plummer

[Thanks drheyde!]

It's crunch time in South Carolina. Five Republican presidential candidates will face off in a Palmetto State debate on Monday night, just five days before the first-in-the-South primary. South Carolina's primary is critical -- the Palmetto State's winner has been the eventual GOP nominee in every contested race since 1980. Fox News' Bret Baier will co-moderate the debate in Myrtle Beach.

They want to bomb Turkey now

I was actually laughing about

I was actually laughing about just that with my Uncle when they brought that up. I said so we're up to, what, five more wars on the docket now? It'd be a laughing riot if it weren't so scarily true...

If the GOP wants a war we should give them a war

I am not giving up on Ron Paul - I will NEVER give up on Liberty. I will admit tonight I thought we had some strong lines and some weak lines. What is very is the GOP is going to embrace the Bush Neocon wing, the same wing that the goofy vote for change Obama voters so strongly rejected in 2008.

It is amazing to me that my party (the GOP) hasn't learned. Their big war all the time is just code for bog spending like the lefts welfare state crap is code for big spending. Even if Romney were to get elected, which I highly doubt) nothing will change. The debt may only grow $1 trillion a year versus $2+ but make no mistake it will still grow. Eventually we will reach the tipping point.

As the debate ended I resolved I would not vote for the GOP candidate if it's anyone but Ron Paul. I just won't do it. I would rather see an Atlas Shrugged outcome in the next four yrs than have it slowly drag out. When you tell 'average' gop voters who think the MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO JUST BEAT OBAMA that you won't vote if Paul is not the nominee you can literally see the fear in their eyes. This is what they deserve and we need to hold true to our beliefs. If our 15%-20% doesn't show up for the GOP they are toast in Nov and they know it.

I am not so sure what the correct tactic for Dr Paul would be but he should start hinting that his supports are not going to vote for anyone else. We should give the GOP the war they obviously so badly want.

I agree.

I think we need to be more aggressive in letting them know just what's going to happen.

We simply aren't going to vote for anyone but Dr.Paul so it's they who have the choice.

Just lay it on the line. If they're going to play dirty then we'll show them we mean business.

I actually thought he did

I actually thought he did quite well.

Did he stutter and mumble a little? Yes. But you all watched the debate. You know as well as he knew he wasn't getting much time to talk. So when they actually call on you for an answer...and you have so much that you want/need to say it's difficult to not get excited and stumble.

I'd bet Dr. Paul has an I.Q that is quite high and often times those with high I.Q's find it difficult to slow their thought process when they are speaking.

His answer on cutting militarism and then mentioning he gets more $ from the military was by far one of his best responses to date. He did a a great job using the analogy of the $1B military base in Baghdad as an example of what he wants to cut.

I know it wasn't ideal for us to be shunned the way that we were. We were all frustrated when we were watching on tv. Just imagine being up there and having to put up with that personally, as Dr. Paul did.

I don't mind when people constructively criticize. You are free to do so, especially if you are donating time and/or $ to the campaign. But can we all relax a little bit? This debate was by far light years better than other's in this election cycle.

Foreign Policy stuff

I just think the GOP establishment is embracing the neocon war stuff and they are going to win or lose with that. They try to make him seem like he supported Bin Laden and that isn't helpful. Of course I know this is foolish and not the case but the average gop voter doesn't and that is our problem. That is how Republics die.

I think Dr Paul should have answered Santorum's second amendment attack better - I understand Paul's position but again most do not.

It just makes me said because I have a young son and I know where this is going and it's not good. Everyone on that stage was so clueless except Dr Paul that it was actually scary. None of them will do anything to solve our real problems.

What Would Jesus Do?

Well clearly this crowd of "Christian Conservatives" believes he would bomb the hell out of the middle east and start more wars and sacrifice more American lives to control other countries rather than treat other countries as we would want them to treat us.

Perhaps this country is too far gone? Ugh!

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Jesus gave us the Golden Rule. He would vote for Ron Paul.

"I ain't the dying type."

Reader, writer, soldier.

No one got the applause Paul did

This was awesome!

tonight......I am so ashamed of those people.....and I am MORE THAN READY NOW...... for a 3rd Party.

I am starting to agree maybe

I am starting to agree maybe he should just announce he is running 3rd party or Libertarian party. Let the GOP see how they cannot win with those numbers. Or maybe just leak polls with him as a 3rd party. I don't know.

No, that undermines us in the primaries

Why do you think Fox is polling Paul as third-party? Discredit him by making it look like that's his only endgame.

I understand and in a sense

I understand and in a sense agree with you but what if we don't win the nomination? The GOP hopes we will just support Romney, we cannot let that happen.

Romney is a national security risk

If there was ever an EMP, he'd stop working

EMP or not...Romney's Grey Matter

Doesn't seem to work anyways...moreso, "matter".

Newt is just like Obama in that...

he wants to meddle in the private lives of citizens and give heavy handed suggestions, like 'children should become janitors.' Is this the role of the President of the United States, to infringe on the individual liberties of Americans to tell us what we should be doing?

He wants more monetary slaves.

More people paying taxes and working for longer periods in life.

The POS needs to be stopped.

Gingrich said repeatedly you could hire 30 kids for the cost of

one janitor (employed in New York City, I believe?). So... let's do the math. If you paid the students only $5/hr (well below minimum wage), that translates to a single janitor's wage of $150/hr ($5 x 30). The janitor makes $300K a year? Even in NYC, that's preposterous. But what if you only paid the 30 kids only $1/hr? That equals a full-time janitor salary of $60K. That sound more like the overpaid janitors Newt is talking about.

Gee...that means he wants to basically make the kids into little slaves making something like $1/hour. That's money in their pocket!!

Yep, that fat bastard sweats bullshit.

I did not become interested in Ron Paul becuase of smooth talk

I am not looking for Ron Paul to have some slick rhetoric to sell me some snake oil. Ron Paul already has what I am looking for in a presidential candidate to lead this country: courage, boldness, humility, honor, integrity, & a stellar voting record to prove his worth. He walks the talk. that is key. I remember years ago, when I first got into Ron Paul, he made a wonderful statement about true wisdom & strength. He said "We need a strong president, a president who is strong enough to resist the temptation to take more power than the constitution allows him". This is what divides Ron Paul from all of the other candidates, and 99% of politicians.

Well Said

Very, very well said.

Hello Media, everytime you don't give Ron Paul airtime, I will give him money.

Freedom and Liberty can unite us all.

Missed the debate, But after watching these clips and I did get to see the post show where it showed all that twitter stuff, I am not seeing what everyone was upset about I think Ron Paul owned it as usual and they even had to mention it because of twitter,

As a side note I saw the guy say "these twitter polls are not scientific and they don't matter that much" of course this is after they had to Show Ron Paul owning it.

I have one question if these twitter polls don't matter why is there an entire section of the show dedicated to it?

they only showed it

they only showed it because of the HUGE AVALANCE OF OUTRAGE over censoring Ron Paul

if you watch the whole debate not just the highlights... the cheers for gingrich.. the lopsided questions for paul... the boos for paul... he fought a good fight but ... the mindless idiots will not be swayed by this controlled stage show.

Paul brings uP the critical NDAA. No other contestant has to respond. He needs to call out ROMNEY on NDAA. PERIOD.

I just became disheartened because of that audience, not because of anything RP did.

i Agree

Looks like the folks watching at home thought Dr. Paul was the winner...by a lot!

"Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos!"- Homer Simpson

I missed the live debate...but just saw the highlights prior to

typing this. It wasn't that bad as folks here at DP seem to complain. Yeah there were boos (from those rah-rah goons of these 4 Warmongering candidates) at RP...but eventually, he came out on top. Even the tweet feedbacks, RP was the undisputed tops.

Cheer up guys and gals...Ron Paul did pretty well and strong tonight.

For those who would overly criticize Dr. Paul In these debates

but how feverishly do the other candidates have to campaign? how much more does Ron have to campaign considering he gets no love from the MSM like the other candidates. This is an uphill battle. The man is human. Unlike the other candidates, he has to earn every point he gets...and he earns it by telling the truth. The others flip & flop & rely on the media drones to prop them up. Ron Paul tells the truth & relies on the media for what? To drag him down & slander him. I agree that he could answer some questions better, but put it into perspective. He is the only one not lying, not part of the disgusting status quot, staged circus of favoritism & slander.

james williams

Preaching to the choir

Everyone here is 100% with you, but the 6 million+ watching the debate don't know he's the only one not lying.

Listening to the repeat, he's very strong and commanding on the national defense / SC bases question. But it's night and day when he gets to the OBL question. He sounds defensive. He could make the same points but sound confident and it would make a difference.
