Anti-sopa/pipa Tools

Here are some tools aimed at combatting Internet censorship.

The first tool I would like to mention is called MAFFIAFire. It is a Firefox add on that automatically redirects you to the correct place if a domain name (web site address) is siezed under SOPA/PIPA. Using this effectively negates the immediate censorship effects of these laws. The government can still go after the owners of the sites legally.

As things get worse, we will have to take more drastic measures. This tool is called TOR (The Onion Router). It makes it extremely difficult to see which sites you visit and allows people to run anonymous and untracable websites only accessible by others running the software. It is slower than regular browsing, but effective.

Finally, the grand-daddy of online privacy: Freenet. Freenet is designed to be completely anonymous and censorship proof. It is slow, difficult to use and doesn't connect to the rest of the Internet. It is, however, the most effective tool I know of for online privacy and censorship resistance.

Hopefully, we will never be forced to use any of these tools, but they are indespensible should the government succede in censoring the Internet.
