We Were Always Going to Get About 12,000 Votes
Submitted by mstrombe on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 08:24When the dust settles Ron will have about 12K votes. I suspect this is about what we were going to get regardless of turnout. I also suspect that if turnout was closer to the 80 to 90 K range (that even the party was expecting), we would have been clustered right at right at McCain and Thompson.
Iowa was always going to be a tough nut for us given the politics of subsidies, strongly anti-Paul State Party, etc. But there is some encouraging news. First I suspect Romney will Gap down in the New Hampshire polls. McCain will win New Hampshire now. In New Hampshire, I think Ron’s polling is more substantially underestimated (look how Ron won the Independent voters in Iowa over McCain, NH Independents are very anti-war). Given the freefall that Romney is going to face (also, the McCain vs. Romney attacks are going to be very bloody), we should be targeting a possible 2nd in NH. This could set us up for wins in Michigan (open primary with no real Democratic contest) and Nevada as well as a good showing in South Carolina.
Other good news is that Thompson should stay in the race through South Carolina. Even if he loses SC badly and gets out soon after it will get many of his absentee voters for Super Tuesday to mail in their votes.

I disagree, we overwhelmingly won independents that voted repub
NH is 40% independent. We could win outright. This is the Live free or die state and the free state project home. This is our best state and we have the most activity going on there.
RP needs to directly attack McCain's vicious Internet regulation
If Ron Paul wants to win NH he will have to directly expose McCain's vicious attempts to take away our freedoms.
How about starting with his introducing a bill that failed: The Save Our Children from Online Exploitation Act.
That would have made it necessary for this forum to do a sex offender check on everyone making comments here.
This is the Achilles Heel of the phonies running against RP.
None of these guys would be willing to say that Americans should be free to be anonymous on the Internet "when so many sex offenders are out there".
Ron Paul needs to expose this shell game. Hitler said he would come to power on the theme of "protecting women and children" from men.
Regarding the 12,000 people: I had predicted 15,000 but RP still would have come in 5th with 15,000 people.
Republicans and Independents were voting in the Dem Caucus to STOP HILLARY.
I do not blame them for this.
I expect a lot of NH Independents to help Obama seal Hillary's fate on the 8th as well.
We cannot, therefore, rely on the Independents to vote for RP.
Considering we are facing the more pro-war Republicans in NH without much Independent support due to their need to support Obama to stop Clinton, I suggest that RP stop focussing on foreign policy and start focussing on Internet regulation and McCain's vicious attitude about men being sex offenders until proven otherwise.
