HQ Needs To Change Its Advertising.
Submitted by louisnatale on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 10:10I feel strongly that one of the reasons that we are not doing better, is that the advertisements that the official campaign puts out reinforce the notion that we are a second tier candidacy. Even if they have the right content (I think they don't) no one can argue that they are well produced. Production is everything in advertising. We all know what good TV ads look like, everyone in America is an expert on TV ads. If a new company ran the ads we've been running nationally it would be disastrous for them. Why are we any different? Personally I think that the Jeremiah Black ads are the best TV ready ads we have. You can view them at www.operationbroadcastfreedom.com My suggestion is that, very quickly, the campaign fund more of his ads and switch everything running to the four ads that have already been produced. Think of it as a national campaign like the very successful Apple Computer ads. Ron Paul has the money to fund this thanks to his supporters, its time to start using that money to its best advantage.
If you agree with this please post a response. I live close to HQ in Arlington Va and I will print them all off every day, take them down to HQ and give to someone in charge until they listen to us or come with a better alternative.
Thank You.
Go Ron Go!
******* Update #1 **************************
Please keep in mind that this will be printed and given to HQ Daily. Lets keep this one thread for endorsements of these Advertisements specifically or a general change of policy.
******* Update #2 ***************************
I went by and dropped off a print out of your posts. Thanks for your input. The guy I talked to said he would look into it. Post more and I'll drop them off again tomorrow.

Keep Doing This Particular One // Actually Two Things To Report
Vote RON PAUL 2008
______________
I have XM radio in my car // I spend a lot of time in my car -- you probably can say the same.
I've heard (a couple of times) RON PAUL for president advertisements on my XM (I listen to the oldies music alot) -- and although XM claims it has little advertisements, the ones they do have always catch my interest. Advertisements don't get lost among the many in this regard. It's great hearing them support RON PAUL. Keep doing that, folks.
And here's something else // I was on a stretch of highway leading out of Washington, DC last week headed for rural Virginia. The road was a nice interstate drive soon taking me out to the open countryside // and suddenly THERE alongside the road, attached to this bit of fence (those fences are everywhere it seems) was a banner promoting RON PAUL for president. It was great seeing that, like an old friend was there to keep me company. Let's do lots more of that, keeping in mind the importance of strategic placement of banners.
Vote RON PAUL 2008
I am starting to become encouraged..
Hopefully people are catching on that the Ads,other than face to face time, are the most powerful way to reach people.
Letter writing is effective, but most people want to be educated by the TV,as they are tired from working their 2 jobs, slave wages, unruly taxes,etc...
Something humorous is good, but shock value is god as well, such as historical footage of the great depression, people in soup lines.
I hope that these ideas and a system of voting for the most effective ads,to bring to HQ is one of the most active threads in this forum.....
Louis: another thread for you to please drop off at HQ
This guy hits the nail on the head!
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/20969
Louis: thanks for being willing to go by HQ. DId you get the feeling they really would look into it, or that you were getting the brush off?
May I suggest that if they don't have some specific feedback for you such as "thanks, we appreciate it - keep it up - we really care what the grassroots thinks" etc. that you let us know? This will allow us to ascertain how we the grassroots should respond.
Again, thanks so much.
Let's Reign! (Rev. 5:10)
Valrico (Hillsborough County), Florida
They were very receptive.
I went in to offer to help out in any way I could. They welcomed the help and had me fill out an info sheet and application. At the end of my "interview" I handed the guy the fifteen pages of posts you all made with my original post on top, and told him to take a look at that and please drop it on the desk of the advertising person. He told me that he was not familiar with the ads and that he would check it out and pass it on. I think I'm going in there at about two to help out answering emails so if you guys have more to say please do so today and Ill take it in.
Do it!
F-in air the ad and win!

Im a Mac / Im a PC type ad Example
If you havent seen these type of ads I suggest taking at a look at
http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/
The similarities here are many.
RP has a better/Stronger but more complex message
Macs are a better/more stable
Macs are in the minority (8%)
RP is at about 8%
These adds get the complex message out in a simple fashion and are effective. Moreover they go viral very quick and make people laugh, while still drawing the contrasts.
I spent 5 mintues to write up an example below - its just an example. I wish I could produce a 30 second clip to show you all how powerful this concept is but I dont have the skills. So please first watch the apple ads at http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ and then read the example below imagining a ron paul and mccain type having this discussion.
Senior looking guy(RP): "Hi, Im Ron Paul"
Another even more senior looking guy(JM): "Hi Im John McCain"
Senior looking guy (RP): "John, we have our disagreements but do you really want to see Americans in Iraq for another 100 years?"
(JM): "As long as it takes to get the job done - it could be a million years"
(RP): "But John, they have been fighting there for 100's of years, why dont we let them take care of their own problems?"
(JM): "Well Ron, you said it yourself, they cannot resolve their differences, and besides we need to protect our oil"
(RP): "Its not our oil John - besides its gone from $27/barrel to $100/barrel since we got involved - and we've spent $1T in the process... we could have invested that in finding alternative sources of energy"
(JM): "You dont understand, the Surge IS working"
(RP): "Not only has the cost of oil gone up 5 fold, but the dollar has dropped 30% in the same time. This strategy is not working, we need to bring the troops home NOW
(JM):"Never in a Million Years Ron, never in a million years"
We could create 30-50 of these ads, 1-2 per state to draw contrast between rp and the riffraff candidates. We could even do one showing RP and the MSM..
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES
an idea
I'm not sure about the "I'm ron paul" "I'm john McCain" dynamic. But I think the idea of doing a "I'm a neo-conservative" and "I'm a real conservative" dynamic could be good. I actually wrote about 5 of these already, but never filmed them because I thought the idea was already spoofed out. But, I could film them next week, if there's a demand for it, and people agree to chip in for them.

Ads Need to be More Visually Educational
In my opinion, we have an educational problem: Dr. Paul needs more than bullet-point-level commentary to explain his non-mainstream ideas to voters.
Most people learn visually.
Is it possible to create some elementary visuals (graphs, charts, flow diagrams) that could be displayed in the background of a setting showing two people talking, so we can properly explain how this country got where it is and what the solution is; one for each major issue (economy, war, etc.) And, bring the message down to the level where the man-on-the-street is affected.
For example:
Ethanol uses food to produce fuel, creating food shortages, higher gas prices (including for meat & milk, because many cows are corn-fed) -- yet ethanol does little or nothing to reduce oil consumption or greenhouse gases.
Bush and Congress set up huge financial incentives for ethanol, rich mega-farmers and investors are benefitting while the poor face dramatic price increases for food.
BTW, I believe the major issue of 2008 will be: "it's the economy, stupid!"

Where's the beef?
Someone from HQ tell me why you are not buying and using ELiberty's TV ads?
Why are TV ads NOT running in my state of Arizona, a Super Tuesday State.
You NEED TO GET BUSY!

Invest in Liberty, one Apartment deal at a time with me. Get a check each month as a passive investor, just ask me how.
This ad
This ad is excellent!! I'd like to see it expanded into a full minute. Go for it. It speaks to ALL generations. The graph really grabbed me.
Do it!

To the point
Great video that is to the point with real people speaking. AAAAA
Yes, but their website...
...still says "Under construction". And like others have mentioned on various threads there is no place to donate to airing this, yet.

I tried emailing eLiberty several days ago via his email at YouTube but no response yet.
There was a rumor that he was consulting with lawyers over legality stuff so maybe that is what's holding up getting his website up.
Anybody know how to get in contact with him???

Advertising
Don't forget about small town rural papers. I own one and can use help, not with new releases, but advertising.
In Missouri all can be reached with a phone call to Missouri Press Services, I am sure other state have the same network lined up.
One paper per county and all the rural communities can be reached.
Locally owned and operated,
Hi rockpaul
Are you saying that we can submit an advertisement to all Missouri rural newspapers with one ad?
Could you flesh this point out a bit. I'm confused.

HQ ads or what can/needs to be improved
From the entrance polls data found at http://election.cbsnews.com/campaign2008/exitPoll.shtml?stat...
When did you finally decide whom to support in tonight's caucus?
.............................................................rp
Just today ................ 2% 29% 1% 17% 13% 18% 19%
In the last 3 days....... 3% 23% 0% 23% 7% 28% 15%
Sometime last week.....2% 28% 1% 14% 7% 24% 24%
In the last month .......3% 44% 0% 10% 7% 23% 11%
Before that ...............6% 30% 0% 10% 15% 29% 10%
This strikes me as to where we should be doing better.
From last month to the last 3 days Ron Paul was only at 7% for getting the votes! Every other candidate who means anything got much better results in the 20+% region for the month, week and days just before the vote.
Why is this? We need to fix this. If it's Ad's or door to door or speeches we need to find out what the others did to get results and then apply that to the Ron Paul campaign. Why were the others able to get votes at the last minute? They must be doing something we are not doing.....??? What???
Best regards,
John Gannon
Stop whining, stop voting, and buy an ad!!
Whining is a sign of powerlessness. Ours is an empowering movement. Voting is a sign of one-size-fits-all collectivism. We have a marketplace here.
HQ is going to choose the ads that it likes. But we have a decentralized, entrepreneurial, grassroots movement. If your tastes don't coincide with HQ's (and mine certainly don't), then you choose the ad that you like, and you put your money down on it. No need to whine to your boss that "they're" doing it all wrong. You da boss! No need for some "vote". You vote with your dollars.
There are several types of ads that you can invest your money in. Can someone please help me fill in this table:
You can place any YouTube videos you want on your own CDs for about $0.25 per DVD. You can buy pre-burned DVDs from:
(For this topic, I'm eaving out other ads such as print ads, mailing letters, letters to the editor, brochures, pamphlets, bumper stickers, etc.)
Please help me fill out this list? Thanks!

Add to DVD's to contribute to:
http://www.ronpauldvdbomb.com/
Their DVD is very powerful because it has the top U.S. accountant, David Walker, giving his no nonsense prediction of economic disaster if we don't change govt. spending on Medicare, etc.
I have been in touch with them and they plan to make it even better soon.
They have a "chip in" box.

Thank you. Yes, the first DVD noted there is Ron PaulDVD Bomb
I'll relabel it so it is clearer,
Are there any other DVDs and/or advetisements?

Whoever came up with the Mac
Whoever came up with the Mac vs PC idea is a genius. I can see it now:
Friendly looking guy (or girl) representing Paul: "Hi, I'm Ron Paul, and I want to listen to the American people and end the war in Iraq."
Sinister looking Levin-esque guy (I just find him evil looking, especially during Senate hearings, the way he looks down his nose at people), representing Candidate X: "Blah blah, neocon war hawk blather. Sneer, sneer."
It would be perfect. America would eat it up. They could make one for every issue, and have Candidate X represent specific opponents. It would allow Paul's campaign to point out their flaws without being nasty.

The opposite of freedom is slavery; if I am 99% free, then I am part slave, which is like being "a little bit pregnant." Freedom versus slavery is a zero-sum game.

Thanks - I really belive this idea will catch on
and go viral very quickly. The key points to remember are
1.) Time is of the essense - other campaigns will copy very quickly
2.) These have to be done professionally - they must not look cheap. No web cam ads - real stuff like JB ads
3.) The official campaign cannot endorse these (copyright issues with apple?)
4,) We can do this for each state, bringing up the issues relevant that state
5.) We can put all the sate ads on a US map so people can get to it quickly
Trust me, if we do this right, border on satire while bring up the issues, IT WILL BE HUGE.
If you like the idea please help support it. I've spoken with the folks at operationbroadcastfreedom and they would consider it if we funded it.
Hire the GoDaddy Girl
then again, it might distract from the message..
R3VOLUTION - Secret Crowds
louisnatale, love the idea - heres how we take it a step further
Why not do a "Im Ron paul, and Im McCain", (Romney, Huckabee) ad just like the apple ads? People love those ads, MSM would glom on, it would be entertaining, and we could easily and clearly discuss issues and differences between candidates. We could even do this for each state (that mattered). I think we would get a lot of press too.
See the ads at http://www.apple.com/getamac/
and think of RP and McCain/Huchakke/JulieAnne (:) in the spoofs.
We could do this completely as grass roots. They would go viral if done semi professionally.
Where's the Ron Paul
I agree Ads need to be funny and satirical, T&A doesn't hurt either.
How about an Ad with a Little Old Lady flipping thru News channels (CNN ABC CBS FOX) all reporting on everyone but Ron Paul. She calmly says "Where is Ron Paul" each time she changes the channel. Every time Ron Paul isn't mentioned she says "Where is Ron Paul" getting progressively angry till she yells "Where The Hell is Ron Paul".
The site of a Little Old Lady waving her cane at the TV set, yelling "Where The Hell is Ron Paul" would be funny. A where's the beef moment.
In subsequent videos she could be seen comparing Meetup group numbers, Google trends, donation trends, and others of Ron Paul and other candidates with her Hot Voluptuous Great Grand Daughter/s.
Sweet little old lady with attitude and her voluptuous Great Grand Daughter/s. I would watch those video.
Anyone out there with a video camera and basic video editing skills? Rest homes are full of bored Little Old Ladies, strip clubs are a plenty with Hot Voluptuous Young Ladies. Could be done with little or no out of pocket money. Sign up a few more supporters for Ron while you're at it.
Who wants to see boring political Ads, not me...
I love
your idea :)
Hahahah
I also like that same Apple :vs: PC type of
presentation. The opportunity for satire here is vast. Shades of H.L. Mencken.
Bill Dumas
Does anyone know if it is Bill Dumas of Hollywood that is producing all the RP TV commercials? If this is the person doing it, maybe someone should contact him directly, offering some constructive criticism and assistance. Would that be a good plan? Comments welcome. . . .
