Submitted by elliotriley on Mon, 01/23/2012 - 19:28in
Rand Paul's Facebook account just posted that Senator Rand Paul was detained by the TSA in Nashville with more information coming when available.
Anyone else heard anything about this?

Bear with me, friends.
WHY would anyone consider a physical patdown any worse than the awful scanning machines? If it's either/or, please fondle me all you like. I do not enjoy such a thing from strangers, but oh my goodness, the scans are much, much worse.
Okay, if I have misunderstood something, please advise me politely & thank you.
Neither
Politely, I will tell you that the TSA has NOT ONCE stopped a terrorist or a terrorist event since it was put into effect. As a Constitutionally protected country, it was never necessary before, it does nothing to stop terrorism and we have a right to travel freely across our country without scanners, patdowns or detention. It's not a matter of whether you would prefer to be radiated or molested, it should be NEITHER. If you understand how many guns, knives, and sample bomb tests have gone through TSA scrunity without being stopped or discovered then maybe you would understand that the sole purpose of the TSA is to let us know that we are under the power and control of our federal government. Since individuals like yourself don't mind the invasions just because you want to fly for personal or business purpose, you allow our government to now extend their police state to buses, vehicles and in New York City now, just walking down the street. Do drones flying around New York city now and being given to police departments all over the country bother you?
I totally respect your opinion and I know that you mean well but this is how tyranny starts, the good citizens that are willing to give up everything our country has fought against at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. Don't let your good intentions cost the rest of us the loss of our freedom and liberties because once it all is in place, it will be too late for you to say I'm sorry, I didn't understand. We need for you to understand now, not later.
Thank you for...
responding to my question and of course I cannot disagree. I don't fly, but am just waiting for scans & patdowns to be inserted onto intercity buses & trains.
You're very welcome
It is comforting to know that I am not alone. We have power in numbers and I will always have hope that our Constitution will prevail. They can ignore our Constitution but they can NEVER destroy it because it is in our hearts and in our souls and they would have to destroy us first.
I assume he set of a metal
I assume he set of a metal detector NOT a scanner - that is likely sloppy reporting.
I hope that...
you are correct about metal detector instead of the evil scanner. I do not want to believe that Rand would go for the scanner.
They are both are
They are both are unconstitutional and wrong. I would personally take the pat down over the scanner, if it were me, but that isn't the point. They present us with a worse option in order to force us into accepting & submitting ourselves to a slightly less worse one. Lesser of two evils. That's not real freedom and it isn't a real choice, either.
It's all bad
Scanning ... groping ... it's all bad. It's the illusion of choice that they give us. Would you rather we burn down your house or rape your wife? Hey, it's your free choice!
Some of us (myself included) would demand a pat-down as the alternative to being virtually stripped and irradiated. Some would draw the line at being physically groped.
The point is, free people should not be subjected to any such indignities as the price of being able to peacefully travel.

I don't fly, but here is why, for me.
I am a sexual assault survivor, with PTSD from the event. If someone were to grope my groin, I would most likely have a flashback, and an anxiety attack, and probably be dead before it was through. Good enough reason?
Again. let me repeat, I value my health enough that I do not go through the scanners, either. I drive.

I am sorry.
I don't fly, either.
They don't change their gloves.
Just saying.
Just wanted to chime in that it's unconstitutional no matter who you are - you don't need to be a senator.
My position is
that NONE of it is acceptable, and I won't comply with any of it.
As a result, I do not fly, and have only flown once since they instituted the TSA, and no longer flew after that.
THANK YOU!
Big T, you are winning me over. I flew more than once, but when they murdered Carol Gotbaum I decided I'd had enough.

Agreed. I will never allow
Agreed. I will never allow them to radiate me with those scanners. But I also won't be groped. One reason I won't fly anymore.
Thanks to you, too.
As long as people keep forking over the FRNs, they will keep groping them.

Everyone needs to read Article 1 section 6
The senators and representatives shall in all cases, except Treason, Felony, and Breach of the Peace, be priviledged from Arrest during their attendance at the Session of their respective houses, and in going to and returning from the same, and for any speech or debate in either house, they shall not be questioned in any other place.
I was just going to write
I was just going to write that. I learned about it again last night watching a book review on the Odd Clauses by Jay Wexler. He spoke about Ron a few times, and he had good things to say.
Did a quick blog post
On this

Please check it out and comment if you can! I'd like to get a good conversation going about the TSA abuses, and many of my friends that I know will read my blog aren't necessarily the same type to go patrolling Daily Paul for info.

Everyone
Should dine on beans and cabbage the night before flying.
LOL
But isn't passing gas in the face of the TSA now considered a terrorist act. Have you heard the commercials on FOX radio about I will not pass gas? I'm dead serious!!
In the Roman republic's latter days & the Praetorian Guard
Roman senators that opposed Caesar could have their say in the senate chambers on how Caesar and his central government was openly abusing the rule of law. Julius Caesar had not abolished the Roman senate but Julius had cowered most senators with the deadly Praetorian Guard that was loyal to him and not to the senate. The guard had a dual role: a body guard service for the emperor and a hit squad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praetorian_Guard
Senators that showed some moxey in defending the Roman law against the tyrant Caesar in the senate would be marked men. As they travelled to their home at night in some dark alley they would find their dead body. This sent a chilling message to weak senators and soon the rest of the senate fell in line with everything Caesar demanded.

Constitutional Protection of Senators Is NOT the Issue
Yes, this is particularly newsworthy because it was a U.S. Senator, on his way back to perform his Senate duties. That may help keep the story alive for longer than it would otherwise.
But let's not be sidetracked by this aspect! It would be too easy to fall into the trap of those who would say, "Well, this was only a problem because he was a Senator. If not for that, everything [the scans, the pat-downs] would be fine."
The TSA's scanning and groping are Constitutionally -- and in every other way -- wrong for all Americans! That's where the focus needs to stay!

To add
This is not just because it was a Senator, it is because it is a Senator who spoke out in Congress, FOR ALL AMERICANS, against the very same thing that happened to him. They can NOT use that excuse and that is why one of the links on DRUGE and DAILY PAUL shows a video of the exact Congressional Commitee that Rand Paul spoke at. Unfortunately for the TSA not only did they do this unconstitutionally but proved to all of America that Rand Paul was correct.

"The Americans are Coming..."
Best comment I've seen in a while from somebody named Scottie under the ABC article:
"Ron and Rand Paul are today’s Paul revere. Be warned - the Americans are coming."
I like that for a t-shirt:
