Ground report from Ron Paul supporter outside Florida debate 1/23/2012

I read this comment and thought it deserved its own thread...

Hello from the debate...
Submitted by Mary1 on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 00:27.

I had to park about eight blocks from the debate forum, and as I walked to the forum I passed ONE guy in a truck with a Romney sign and MANY HUNDREDS of Ron Paul supporters with signs. My kids and I had our homemade signs, and a couple of RP people offered us their extra, very professional signs (and free bumper stickers, which I accepted for a couple of work colleagues that I have been working on...) We stood on the street outside the actual building where we understood the debate would take place from 6 p.m. In all that time, I saw a total of only 7 small signs for Santorum, 2 lonely little signs for Gringrich that were held by two guys in dark suits (spooky), and again, just on that one street, HUNDREDS of Ron Paul signs and supporters. They had megaphones and we chanted back and forth across the street. It was all in good spirits and there was no bad behavior. The Santorum guys slinked away, never to be seen again. There were SUVs that paraded past with Ron Paul laser signs. It was great.

While we were waiting, a lady wearing an ID from National Journal and the Tampa Bay Times came up to me and interviewed me. I think she was attracted to me because I was among the older folks sporting RP signs (and I had a wonderful, 3' x 5' sign for Ron Paul that we borrowed from a gentleman who must have a professional sign company; she took photos, so you might see me on National Journal with his handiwork). She asked me why I was attracted to Ron Paul, and I started by saying that a year ago I was an Independent voter, but I had known about Ron Paul and learned a lot about him this past year. I described his policies of limiting government spending and sound monetary policy, spoke a little about the Federal Reserve and the fact that while Americans protested the $700 billion in bank bailouts the Fed was secretly giving loans of $16 Trillion to banks, and of course the fact that Paul is against these undeclared wars and wants our troops to come back home, unlike the other candidates. Then she said that I must know Paul would not receive the nomination, and I responded that even if Paul did not receive the nomination (though of course I hoped he would and I myself will vote for him) that right now, all across America, there are discussions happening in every neighborhood about the Federal Reserve and whether we should be in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and possibly soon in Iran, and that America might never go back to sleep again and that it was due to Ron Paul. That he has made a difference already.

She took my number and said she might call me back for a follow-up interview. I hope she does, because I've since thought of a hundred more things I wish I'd said. Sigh.

Then, people started yelling "He's coming! He's coming!" A few seconds later, at about 8 o'clock, there he was, right in front of me not ten feet away in a black SUV, the window down and Dr. Ron Paul right there waving and smiling. I felt like a groupie, yelling "RON PAUL!" along with a hundred college kids. I dropped my sign from clapping and tears were in my eyes.

My two daughters, 16 and 12, were less moved (they wanted the autograph). But we packed up our dozens of super brochures (there was no one to give them out to; the street was already full of them) and headed back. We got to keep the big sign (thank you, whoever you are!), and I plan to find a conspicuous space on private property ASAP where it can be displayed in my neighborhood of Gingrich/Romney supporters (sigh again).

What a great night.

Wow, Amazing!

All of you Paulites that are in the area and take the time to go out and show your support are the best, love you guys! Same to the ones who are brave enough to call in to the various talk shows... I hear you guys out there all the time. And it's working. I keep hearing different talk show hosts really taking a second look at some of the harder Paul positions. I think it was Smerconish today talking about how Paul is absolutely right that we need to open dialogue with Cuba and that the only thing the embargo has done is to keep Castro in power. KEEP IT UP! You all are very persuasive... this is how we spread the message of liberty... this is how we win our country back!

Im not sure

Who put the following video up. But I like it alot.

Nothing is really said or done, but being from Tampa, and living in North Florida now, I am beaming with pride. I couldn't make it down to Tampa on debate night, but the following video I think really shows how powerful his message is.

Keep in mind this is in a state he really won't be able to campaign in much...

The support is here. I'm proud to vote for him.

Wow! So many RP supporters!

OneWordSpoken - That's a great video!

I like the part around 9:30 - so many people that they were taking turns chanting "Ron" on one side of the street followed by "Paul" on the other side...

I can't help but smile thinking what the other candidates were thinking while they drove down this street headed to the debate!! They *MUST* realize that RP is the one supported by We the People!

Working for US policy in the mideast that serves AMERICA's interests http://www.councilforthenationalinterest.org/

its the same guy in the

its the same guy in the romney truck. was it a white old chevy truck with big romney signs on either side? did he put like 4 or 6 american flags on top of them. what a F***** tool.

I was there last night and

I was there last night and the support was amazing. There must have been 1,000 supporters out there and I only counted 5 Santorum supporters, two Romney and one Newt.

I feel so fortunate to have shaken this man's hand and to have

got a hug from him on a couple of occasions. He is awesome.
Santorum you need to go away because you are not on the ballot in several states, quit trying to take away delegates from this awesome and incredible human being, Ron Paul 2012 and beyond!!

Wow, thanks you guys, what a surprise!

I just checked in after work and here you all are reading my comment! I am humbled that you all feel the connection with me and the positive energy of last night, thank you GCN3030 for placing my comment here. I didn't have video to post (my daughter brought the video camera but we discovered the battery was dead on arrival; I know, tragic), so I am thrilled to see so many great videos here! (And discovered that my recall was not perfect, since Dr. Paul's SUV was white, not black; so much more fitting.)

I haven't seen any sign of my interview yet, and have not been contacted by the lady interviewer, either. She did say she might call me within the next few days, though, so I had the impression she might be doing a larger story than just a quick write-up on who was at the RP sign-wave at USF. I will certainly let you know if I learn anything new on that front!

So many great comments; thank you, again. We've got a pretty great family here.

With liberty for all, Mary

Your welcome

Glad to see it got some traction, we won't be hearing about the groundswell of grassroots support for Paul from the mainstream media we need to be our own media.

makes you wonder...

If every single time Paul shows his face in public everyone cheers for him and adoring mobs form everywhere he goes, makes you wonder how the polls don't match it... hmmmm?? now how could that be?

Peace sells... but who's buying?

It sure does!

They Are Coming By The Mobs!

and the pundits call it "enthusiasm"?

Ground Report from Hawaii :)

First off, thank you Mary. What a great story!

Yesterday we had our first ever Ron Paul Sign Waving. Eleven of us – mostly strangers to each other - came together and formed an immediate bond fused with heartfelt smiles and so much hope. We brought an eclectic assortment of signs, two huge American Flags, our pimped out Ron Paul cars and a small dog. Over two hours we stood out on the only main street of our small town and shared the love with hundreds of people passing by. Everyone that passed us got smiles, eye contact, enthusiastic waving and peace signs. Even our normally reserved police couldn’t resist waving back and the ambulance gave us a quick hoot hoot as he exited the hospital across the street. There may have been some polite drivers who gave us an obligatory nod, but for the most part responses included leaning into horns, hands and heads out windows with fist pumping and shakas – the local Hawaiian hand signal that indicates approval when someone is doing something good and righteous. One local guy was smiling while he held his index finger and thumb to his lips implying he was holding a joint. I thought, ok at least he knows who Ron Paul is and I hope all his friends do too. We represented Dr. Paul with our heads held high; proud we could do something out here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for the man we love and trust and who does so much for us. We’ll be meeting every Friday until March 13 to bring attention to the Caucus.

Just wanted to let you know that the movement is alive and well in Kamuela Hawaii and we are happy to be a part of it.

Thank you to all those who have been doing this for years and that have inspired us through photos, videos and stories. We stand beside you now.

Thank you Mary, for sharing

Thank you Mary, for sharing this. Sometimes I get tired of hearing the same old claim that Dr. Paul won't get the nomination. He will get the nomination. Half of the media are stupid and just repeat what they have heard and the other half are hoping to convince us he won't get the nomination because they think we are sheep and will vote for Romney because they say he's going to get the nomination.

Each and every day, more and more people are becoming aware of Ron Paul and what he stands for. These people are moving to him. America will be great again...

If some media droid asked me...

If some media droid asked me why I'm a Paulophile, I'd simply say, "Because he's the only honest man in Washington, DC."

Freedom is my Worship Word!

he is a national sensation... a hallmark of liberty and a true

American Patriot.

regardless of MSM's numbers the real world is telling the story

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

This begs the question,

where are all these folks when it comes time to vote? Everywhere we see great Ron Paul support on the ground, but when the votes are counted, we're behind. The other guys have so little visable support.

alan laney

sorry to break it to ya

but we may own the popular support, but we dont own the voting machines. remember, he who count the votes decides everything.
Dr.Paul wont win the presidency on the establishment's watch, we're going to have to FORCE IT through popular support and even REVOLT if we must to get this man into office.
as of now, it's all about getting the message across.
Remember what Dr.Paul says, this is more than just about the presidency, this is about getting the message out and changing the course of history.
We have to keep our eyes on the real prize, which is, THE MESSAGE.

I have no doubt most of these people are voting.

Now what does that tell you? Hmmm.

God bless Dr. Paul.

God bless the people who love Dr. Paul.

God bless the people who NEED Dr. Paul, even though they don't understand that yet.

Thank You FL R3VOL!!!

for buoying the Doc's spirits prior to the 'debate!'

I can FEEL the energy!!!

wow wowowowowow!!!

Last night was the most amazing convergence of Americans

Florida Grassroots! Last night was the most amazing convergence of common American citizens for ANY CAUSE that I have ever experienced and I have been to a few sizable Ron Paul rallies in the Tampa Bay Area (especially in 2008). This one caught me completely off guard! What surprised me the most were not the college students or even the hard core Ron Paul supporters that I recognized from the local meet-up groups, but rather the broad spectrum of Americans, many who admitted it was their first time ever going to a grassroots political event and others who drove here from distance areas of the state not knowing exactly what to expect. There were families there who brought their kids, veterans driving surplus military trucks, elderly couples, even a guy dressed up as Patrick Henry!

We met so many great and wonderful people last night for the first time, but it felt more like seeing old friends or family. It is so true when Dr. Paul says ‘Liberty brings people together.’ Everyone was helping one another with huge smiles on their faces. What people need to realize is that these videos reflect largely the street party of those of us whose primary goal was to line the street 2-3 hours before the debate, so that we could see and be seen by Dr. Paul when his motorcade arrived. During this time, my niece and I only saw a few people representing the other candidates (<10 combined and I am not exaggerating this point), so on the entrance route Ron Paul supporters were the 99% hands down!

Look for the little boy holding sign and then later an older fellow. People need to realize that most of the University students were already at the debate viewing tent ~300 yards away (not shown here) behind the Marshal Center. That tent was at full capacity (1000 people) and overflowing. As usual, there was a media blackout on this huge turnout of Ron Paul supporters for Dr. Paul’s welcome, but several news spots were made for the couple dozen protesting the GOP at the tent. I sense the 'Blowback' building!!!

This needs to be a tv ad running in Florida

Take better footage at the Jan 26th debate and then turn it into a commercial to run the following couple of days in Florida. Show the voters in Florida who really has support in their state.

This is totally like rock band concert status here! RP is such a stud. I approve of this magnificent video!

It's like there are two

It's like there are two separate realities. There's the reality that's manufactured by the media. Then there's the reality we live in and that we can share with each other on the Internet.

The purpose of the media's manufactured reality is to keep the American people ignorant of our debt-based monetary system and protect the parasitic elite that is dependent on it.

well, eventually the Reality and the Truth

these MSM sycophants cannot deny reality forever. I wonder how many of them will be 'converted' after spending a long time covering R3VOL, or actively denying coverage of R3VOL but are nevertheless faced with the undeniable reality that we're EVERYWHERE!!!

Holy cow!

That made me feel really good. What a wonderful display of humanity. I can't wait for a chance to get out there with a sign and scream my head off!!! (I live in California) They can't hold us back forever. The dam made by the MSM will break eventually. Let freedom ring!
