This is like that stupid 8th

This is like that stupid 8th grade question "Do your parents know you're gay?" Its such a ridiculous question to ask a Presidential candidate.

I have to return some videotapes...

Honor Killing: Rick has it right...

We justifiably recoil in horror at reports of honor killings of innocent rape victims in Central Asia and the Middle East. Isn't the child just as innocent as the rape victim? I know several women that have had an abortion and it has caused life-long psychological damage. What a terrible burden to compound that inital trauma. As I've said in another thread I have a friend that was the product of a rape. She is gorgeous inside and out. Her mother who "made the best of it" and allowed her to live is blessed with two beautiful grandchildren who might become the next Beethoven or someday discover a cure for cancer or become President of the United States AND have beautiful children of their own! Great good, healing and love can come out of great evil if only we will allow it. Pity and pray for those who think Honor Killing of either the mother or child is the answer.

"It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged." G.K. Chesterton

What should he say? Wallow in self pity

The very hard truth of being raped is that after the horrid event is over, you are *still* responsible for your actions, including how you deal with being raped. It may take a lot of time, it may take getting help, etc., but the rapist did not take one's ownership of one's actions.

Making the best of any situation is good advice...even for being raped.

You don't have to become some nationally known advocate for helping rape victims. Maybe your best is going back to work, trusting people again, having one night without nightmares, etc.

I know we all want to just wrap up a rape victim in a protective loving understanding cocoon, but you have to think long term. It is even more horrible to let people off the hook for responsibility for their life...even rape victims. At some point (weeks or months later), you have to tell them to move on...and even to make the best of the situation.

That is where I think Santorum is coming from.

This issue will no doubt

This issue will no doubt digress into controversy. I say we avoid it, unless a man can get pregnant after being rapped, I recommend we don't go down this road.

I didn't say

Whether it was good or bad advise. It's obviously a very controversial topic and there is going to be extreme opinions on both sides. But either way the person answering the question is going to lose regardless if you agree with the answer or not

I'm no fan of Santorum, but

I'm no fan of Santorum, but why is this bad advice?

Is the killing of a person ever justified by the actions of another person?

"You must be frank with the world; frankness is the child of honesty and courage...Never do anything wrong to make a friend or keep one...Above all do not appear to others what you are not" - Robert E. Lee, CSA

More accurate title: Santorum to pregnant rape victims - don't

kill your baby. Whether you agree with that position or not, it's more consistent than carving out exceptions.
