Small Victory for Ron Paul

Daily Paul Liberty Forum

My mom (65) called me today and said "I dont agree with everything he says but I really think we need Ron Paul in the White House." She was a former Newt supporter and Fox News watcher. She even talked about going to the caucus for him and she has never been to a caucus before.

I knew she was a Ron Paul supporter waiting to happen...but aren't we all.

I cannot convince my parents on his foreign policy. They like Ron Paul on every other issue, but they are afraid that he's going to weaken our national defense and that we will get nuked by Iran. They love Fox News. I think it's impossible to convince them otherwise.

Perhaps you should show them some YouTube videos of our men coming home without limbs and traumatic brain injuries. Explain that the little shit country of Iran doesn't have the ability to reach anywhere near the US and America has so much technology that to get a nuke all the way over here would be virtually impossible. Fox news doesn't want anyone to know that, they are fear mongers and there is plenty of YouTube videos that show bill Orielly in a very poor light. Check it out. Good luck

I am a Chinese and you can tell your mom what foreigners thinks about it. I have been in US for 5 years (graduate school and work now, legal, with American hubby and a baby) and became a Ron Paul supporter, mostly attracted by his foreign policy. He is the only smart one to figure out what people think in other contry. I wrote a letter to Bill Oreilly. I know I won;t get any response but I can share with your mom:

" Bill,
May, 8th, 1999. The Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia was accidentally bombed because American used an obsoleted map......Three Chinese who worked in there died. The next day, the windows of the American embassy in China are all smashed... The hatred provoked by the bomb is still in the deep memory of many Chinese people. Image how many bombs in mid-east combined?

Still can't believe you said" If Santorium wins the third...". Bill, you were my window to learn about American before. I came to American from China to achieve my college degree and another advanced one. To learn this totally different culture and fit in, I learned about Jesus and became a Christian, also try to watch your news everyday and in a big favor of your opinion. But recently, it is changed.

You MUST NOT belittle Ron Paul! Only Paul is right on foreign policy. Have those millionaires ever live in a foreign country and live with their people and ask their opinions?? Only Paul and soldiers in US understand because they lived there and read it by their souls!! Strong national defense on our own soil is the key. See what Chinese foreign policy is doing!

As a foreigner lived in China for 20+ years, I know What Dr. Paul's "golden rule" means and I am disgusted when people rejected him, especially many of them are evangelicals. Is this the true American I came to????"

Hi danni,
Im not sure what you've tried but this was my moms issue too so I'll tell you what worked for me. I tried to find common ground on the subject. (We both agreed that we didnt want Iran to have nukes.)I stayed away from "Ron Paul thinks..." and used "I think...". When it came to a point we agreed on I would say that was part of Ron Pauls platform.
I pointed out the credentials of people who agreed with Ron Pauls foreign policy compared to those who dont. (How can anyone deny that Michael Shauer knows more about the subject then Bill O'Rielly.)I conceded that I didnt know if we would go to war with Iran under Ron Paul but I knew it was a greater possibility with the others.
I didnt really have to convince her that the others were wrong just that Ron Paul could be right. Since she was already sold on his plan for the economy it was all she needed to put him ahead in the race. Good Luck!

Argue this point with the fact that it is a different kind of war and a different kind of enemy.

Most also do not know how to do a basic cost-benefit analysis and will contend that it is not humane to do so in matters where it involves people's lives and security when you try to do it for them.

"Terrorists only have one weapon and that is fear. When they have no access to the US, then they become toothless. The only way to defeat this enemy forever is to secure our borders.

We can do that by having bases on the US-Mexico border. As long as all our money and military is abroad protecting other countries and companies, we cannot defend our people back home.

It is immoral and unfair to take away the liberties of our people and have them live in fear when we can make them safe by the simple act of bringing the troops home."

This is what Ron Paul should say,rather than talking about blowback. But that said I trust his judgement. He wants to do this right, not just demagogue.

Doesn't it feel great?

I got my 86 year old (very establishment republican) uncle to actually send money to the Ron Paul Campaign.

So far he is hanging tough with Dr. Paul.

But he will vote whoever the nominee is in the end.

I just have to try to get him to actually vote for RP in the Texas primary.

And then show her Ron Paul's budget propopsal with 1 trillion dollars in cuts, in order to SECURE her Social security, rather than the others who are putting her Social security at risk! The same goes for Medicare

This morning, I had a similar conversation. She held back because of the whole Israel thing, but I explained the situation and she has come around. She is now saying that if Ron Paul doesn't get elected this country is lost for good. My Dad's on board, my brother is now on board. My oldest sister is on board. Only one left is one more sis and she cares about nothing. When you consider how stubborn and opinionated my family is, it really says something that we all back Dr. Paul. Alot of my co-workers back him, too. These poll numbers I hear about are total BS. They don't reflect the reality I'm seeing.

Wow! Its great to see all the comments and similar stories. I didnt really expect to get a whole lot of responses but when I get discouraged I like coming to the DP and reading stories about new supporters. They always make me feel like we're making progress. Sometimes I wonder how you long time supporters have done it. I dont think I go a day without wanting to throat punch some pundit...lol.

My friend who is transgendering himself (came as an utter shock and surprise- we're talking man's man here) into a girl told me that he was re-registering to republican when he gets back to San Fran. just to vote for Ron in their primary. Get this, in the second to last debate it was his answer on abortion as a medical doctor that swayed him. He said he felt that he was the most sincere and though he doesn't agree with his whole platform he's voting due to Ron's genuineness.

When I had my buds over watching hockey the other day, they were glued to the debate. I had never seen such a spectacle. I even thought my New York, Brooklyn, Jewish friend couldn't stand Ron Paul. I think I was wrong on all three friends. They loved him!

My husband has been telling those he works with about Dr. Paul for several months now and many of them have gotten on board...
He was out today and saw a little house with rain barrels for sale in the front yard and he stopped to ask about them.
The owner was a democrat but said he was not going to vote for Obama. My husband talked to him about Ron Paul and he was very interested. He was an older gentleman and hadn't heard much about Dr. Paul.
Next week we go back to pick up a couple of rain barrels...
and talk more about Ron Paul.

If only these older people had access to youtube videos and the like that we do. I know so many older people that just don't want to do anything on the computer. They still use the radio, papers and TV as their info source. I can't really blame them for being set in their ways, but it is a shame.

I suppose the only way to reach them otherwise is to do exactly what you did. Reach out in person!
