Ron Paul's "Foreign" Policy: One Step Away From Hitting Home BASE

Please read this, please up vote and I pray to God that Ron reads this himself because he's seriously onto something here....

Ron Paul quote from the January 16th South Carolina presidential debate.

"I want to cut military money, I don't want to cut defense money. I want to bring the troops home, I'd probably have MORE BASES here at home. We were closing them down in the 1990's and building them overseas, that's how we got into trouble so we would save a lot more money and have a STRONGER national defense, and that's what we should do, but to say that we'd be weaker is absolutely wrong."

The question starts at about 1 minute 9 seconds.

"I want to bring the troops home, I'd probably have MORE BASES here at home."

That was it! I almost fell off the couch....

How many bases were closed in the 1990's? Did anyone ever think that those base closings left us more vulnerable to an attack on 911?

Ron Paul MUST focus on being a strong, "national defense," candidate, and the best way for him to do that right now is by calling attention to America's military bases, and the VA hospitals and their needs - not wants.

Is a, "smaller, leaner military," a stronger national defense?

I think not.

Ron Paul, please go "RAMBO."

Talk of base closings stirs

Talk of base closings stirs New England states

By STEPHEN SINGER, Associated Press

updated 1/27/2012

HARTFORD, Conn. — Less than seven years after local and state officials, business owners and civic groups beat back recommendations to shut a submarine base in Connecticut, the Obama administration has again raised the specter of base closings. -------------full article linked above

All Ron Paul has to do is say that closing more of America's military bases is wrong!

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

Excellent post!

I agree. Ron Paul made some serious points in that debate and would hope that he would continue to hammer those points again. People need to hear something several times before it really clicks.

Thank you...now is the time

Thank you...now is the time for Ron Paul to assert himself against Obama. A lot of us here have been talking about going after Obama, but the timing was off...now the timing is right to go after him for being weak on national defense and too hawkish on our national offense.

Close military bases to save money? Obama obviously doesn't have a clue about how America's economy works.

US military bases are economic ANCHORS...and Obama wants to close them.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

NOBODY in the GOP race has

NOBODY in the GOP race has said didly squat about this! Ron Paul, PLEASE STAND UP! NOW is the time!

Defense Budget Cuts Would Limit Raises and Close Bases

Published: January 26, 2012

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon took the first major step toward shrinking its budget after a decade of war as it announced Thursday that it wanted to limit pay raises for troops, increase health insurance fees for military retirees and close bases in the United States.

LIMIT pay raises for troops! INCREASE health insurance fees for retired veterans! CLOSE more bases in America!

Are you kidding me? How about we stop bombing the ever living you know what out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan and God knows where else in the middle east or northern Africa? THAT would save a hell of a lot more money (and face) than what is being proposed.

Pentagon proposes base closings

The Obama administration will ask Congress to authorize a new round of military base closings, Pentagon officials said Thursday as they unveiled the Defense Department's budget request for the 2013 fiscal year.

Ron Paul, NOW is your chance to flip the political table. Obama wants to cut America's defense, while at the same time waging endless war overseas.

Obama wants to close MORE US military bases...

Obama wants less defense spending, and more military spending.

HELLO CAMPAIGN, can you hear me!!!!!!!!!!

Rep. Owens slams base closing

Rep. Owens slams base closing proposal

January 26th, 2012 by Brian Mann

The Obama administration is proposing another BRACC-style base closings process to downsize the US military. And while there's no evidence yet that Fort Drum near Watertown would be a target, the proposal is already drawing fierce condemnation from Rep Bill Owens (D-Plattsburgh).

Owens tells NCPR he was assured by the Pentagon that no base-closing initiative was being planned:

"The last time we asked it was about thirty days ago, we we're told it's absolutely not on the radar. So, I'm not happy about that as you can imagine. To say the least, I'm really annoyed by this. I think it was done really unprofessionally."

Owens, who sits on the Armed Services Committee, is himself a former Air Force officer who lived in Plattsburgh when the last major "BRACC" base-closure process torpedoed Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard at risk

New England senators are not pleased with the idea of several military bases closing on the recommendation of the Obama administration.

President Obama will ask Congress to approve a NEW ROUND of DOMESTIC base closures, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday, although the timing was left vague and there is little chance lawmakers would agree to it in a presidential election year.

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, as well as Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, quickly defended the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. The four lawmakers said another round of base closings doesn't make sense in advancing national security or saving money.

sharkhearted's picture

I caught that TOO during the debate...glad you brought it up!

The MSM and the Republican Establishment of course swept that statement under the rug as if it did not exist, but RIGHT ON!

They will always try to present Dr. Paul as "weak" or "dangerous" on foreign policy because their neocon blinders prevent them from thinking it through.

Once you think it through, though,...it makes absolute sense.

We are weaker and less secure because we are spread out all over the world.

Dr. Paul would make the finest president this country has ever seen, as well as the finest commander in chief.

Norfolk, VA

Norfolk, VA

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

couldn't find a chart...

But this is what I found.

It's normally referred to as BRAC...
More than 350 installations have been closed in five BRAC rounds: 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995 and the most recent round of BRAC completed and entered into law in November 2005.

Only problem I foresee is people don't like hearing even that ANYONE messed up on 911... some people would rather somehow believe no one could have foreseen or prevented it...

This is an interesting one...

Maybe your on to something, he could talk about BRAC and say he'd like to move all BRAC activities/focus overseas.

Also, think of the jobs that

Also, think of the jobs that would be created here in the US due to those bases being built and the VA hospitals being updated. I agree that this is something that he needs to build on.

Ron wants to bring our troops

Ron wants to bring our troops home, but unfortunately many of those troops do not have a home to come home to...sad, but true. Homeless veterans on the streets of America, why? If anyone deserves a bailout, it's them.

You're absolutely right about the jobs aspect. Military bases aren't really, "military," bases because they are mostly run by, "civilians." I served in the Marine Corps...Wilmington, NC is a military town and everyone benefits from the clientel/customers/troops. San Diego is the same thing, it's a military town...same thing with Oceanside, CA. Camp Pendelton is surrounded by businesses, and the base is basically ran by, "civilian," contractors/businesses. The economics are so simple. Bring the troops home from all over the world, rebuild America's military facilities and hospitals, and let businesses in America enjoy the economic benefits instead of Germany, Japan, South Korea, etc.

I really loved that

I really loved that statement. I guess I sort of knew that was his plan anyway. I am a firm believer that ALL border states (even those bordering just water) should have great military bases with tons of technology. We need to mind our own business, is what we need to do.

Speak softly, mind our own

Speak softly, mind our own business, and carry a giant stick. I agree, but America can not carry a big stick if the stick is not in our own hands. Our stick is stuck in the overseas sands.
