Sitting here with my family we are struggling with the words to write to you. We want to say congratulations to you for your 55th Anniversary, but we also want to thank you. However, we feel “thank you” is just not enough. Words are really feeble to express what your sacrifices mean to us. We know you could both be sitting in your lazy boy recliners sipping nice cups of hot tea and watching old re-runs of Happy Days, but you are on the road fighting for our country, fighting for us. We want to express how proud we are of you. Knowing there are human beings who really care, really love, and really consider the words, “We mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor”, give us hope for our future. You give new meaning to those words with your commitment to attend a rally, speak the truth, and show you care. This helps us. Thank you for showing us, by example, the true meaning of being patriots. We know that you have said it is not about you, but it is about the message. However, for us, it is as if you are family, it is that you are real human beings who truly care, and it is about you. You are not only a man and a woman who fell in love 55 years ago, but you fell in love with freedom, you fell in love with economics, and you fell in love with the country. We know this, we get this, but we are not always very good at expressing this to you. We do not always show our gratitude.
My family and I feel as if, as one friend says to us all of the time, the ship is sinking and the rest of the world is polishing the brass. We know you are doing much more than starting the bilge pump. Asking us to make a few calls each day to help your message get delivered and making a few donations is simple compared to what you are tasking yourself and we appreciate you more than words can express. We are wishing you a beautiful 55th Anniversary.

We struggled with that, but we wanted him to know we saw him
