Ron Paul Tells Hispanic Crowd He Opposes DREAM Act

EAST LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Displaying his willingness to say what audiences don’t always want to hear, Rep. Ron Paul on Wednesday told a largely Hispanic crowd that he opposes the DREAM Act legislation aimed at helping children of illegal immigrants.
The legislation, which has stalled in Congress but passed in several states – including Paul’s home state of Texas -- offers in-state college tuition to undocumented students who attend high schools for at least three years and apply to become U.S. citizens. It also provides a path to citizenship for those who serve in the military.
But Paul told a town hall at an event sponsored by the group Hispanics in Politics that he objects on economic grounds. “I can’t endorse [it] because there is a lot of money involved,” the Republican presidential candidate said. “And you know there are a lot of subsidies in there between the billions of dollars.”
At the same time, Paul said he believes that Hispanics have been unfairly scapegoated. He said Americans historically have been more accepting of outsiders during prosperous times, but not when the economy sours.

Potential solution to illegal immigration issue
"Illegal immigrants" of any nationality living in the U.S. should be able to go through the same immigration process as those living outside the U.S. If we reform the immigration process (or work visa process) we create an incentive for immigration regardless of whether those individuals are outside or inside the U.S.
All U.S. government services should be denied to anyone who is not in this country legally. Charity from U.S. citizens is perfectly fine and good. If individuals want to fund organizations to help those in need I am willing to participate and many others also would be willing to do so.
The principle of the role of government protecting liberty applies to those who live under the constitution, that is all citizens. The government also should fulfill the conditions of visas and other contracts and there should be a protection of those who abide by these contracts. Any person who is willing to fulfill the requirements for citizenship are welcome to do so and the government should encourage this process by making it as simple and reasonable as possible.
Remember, the U.S. is a nation of immigrants, and we want to encourage anyone who values the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and are willing to abide by our constitution, to be Americans along with us.

Most of that crowd is going to vote Dem in the general, RP should have said what they wanted to hear just to get more votes to beat Romney. He's never going to get this close again.He should have said what they want to hear in interest of winning. This is just f***ing dumb. It's not merely that Ron Paul is incorruptible and incapable of lying. It's that he's right. And when you're right, you don't have to lie. You don't have to feed pablum to the hoi polloi to try to trick them into voting for you.

About the dream act...
I am currently going to college in Texas and because I was an american citizen I was able to obtain a pell grant. If I was denied a pell grant the rich people in our county started the universal access program, where my education would be paid for if I fell under low income. If I were too high on the income bracket I was allowed to apply for student loans.
With that being said, why should we allow people from foreign countries, wether it be Germany or Mexico, 3 years of a FREE college education without being a member of this country? I am currently having to pay for every penny of my education, and I am an american citizen! If this bill ever passed what would keep someone like me from renouncing my citizenship to obtain a free education? If they had this policy in Germany, what would keep me from moving there? It makes ZERO sense, it creates a magnet and tempts foreigners even more than they are already, and would be a waste. You come here legally, we clean up all the red tape under Dr Paul, and you can get an education if you work for it. We don't need to be taking taxpayers money to pay for education of those that circumvent the law. Thats why I like Ron Paul's answer, and I also like how he doesn't pander or flip flop to get votes.
Not to forget that by getting gov't out of the education
business and putting us on a gold back dollar, tuition rates would drop and be more affordable..

The guy that introduce this event seems to give an impression that the venue is impartial and independent. Four invited candidates, and organizer does not endors anyone at all. But this big RP sing at the wall behind him tells that this must be organized by RP people. How big was the event?
