Amazing argument in favor of Ron Paul by a former Romney supporter (who happens to be Mormon)

"I voted for Mitt Romney in 2008, but in 2012 I’m voting for Ron Paul"

I didn’t just vote for Mitt Romney in 2008, I donated to his campaign, asked others to donate, and volunteered at phone banks, fundraising events, the national call day in Boston, and at the Nevada caucuses. I’ve met him several times. I drank the Romney root beer (someone actually made some) and I have a Mitt Romney bobblehead. I even dressed up as Mitt Romney for Halloween 2007.

Mitt strikes me as exceptionally bright and a truly good man. We could certainly do worse than to have Mitt Romney as our president. And despite what we sometimes hear, I think I’d rather enjoy getting (root) beers with Mitt Romney. I found him to be plenty personable and warm.

However, I’d like to explain how I came to support Dr. Ron Paul. It’s been a really satisfying journey, and I’m far more enthusiastic about my candidate now.

Mormon girl for Ron Paul here!

Been on the liberty train since 2007. I wear my Rothbard and Ron Paul shirts to every church activity! :p

No one can find a safe way out if society is sweeping towards destruction. Everyone,in his own interests, must thrust himself vigorously into the intellectual battle. None can stand aside with unconcern; the interests of everyone hang on the result. - LvM

A Couple More Key Thoughts for Mormons to Consider

I'd like to add a couple more thoughts to Richard K. Miller's excellent analysis. This would be directed specifically to Mormons to consider as well. In Mormon scripture you'll also find these passages:

Reference D&C 101:77-80

77 According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles;

78 That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment.

79 Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another.

80 And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.

Also there is a summary that is at the beginning of Doctrine & Covenants Section 98 that clarifies the following verses it says:

"4–8, The Saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the land; 9–10, Honest, wise, and good men should be supported for secular government"

These are the verses which are referenced in that summary (D&C 98:4-10):

4 And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.

5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me.

6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;

7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil.

8 I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free.

9 Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn.

10 Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.

Any Mormon should look at the proven record of Ron Paul and see for themselves if Ron Paul falls into the category of "good men and wise men". ...and let me tell you that he does in such a profound manner that it will blow you away.

I pulled these scripture quotes from the Mormon Church's official web site at lds.org. Need I say more?

I just posted your story to Mitt's F.B. Page

I actually posted it to a handful of them - his Nevada, Maine, and his national page - as comments. Maybe it's not classy, but I can't stand the fact that people have to rely on such a biased media to learn about Ron Paul. It's not a fair fight. I was watching this episode of the Daily show the other night, and the clip they show at the beginning of it seems like almost a perfect metaphor for Ron Paul's campaign:

Another interesting thing to watch for is the audience's reaction to Brad Pitt's mention of him toward the end. Not sure what to make of it ...

Impressive

Wow you really did your homework man. Good job!

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Beautiful articles

Lets vote in a man who will save our Constitution and preserve the freedom of my little porch were me and all your Mormon friends come by every summer and we have great debates about our beliefs. Most people wont answer the door but when I see them I go running outside. I like talking religion even more than I do politics. I know, the two things I'm not suppose to talk about are the things I like the most, "sue me"! Religions have debated forever over who is right or wrong. The worst thing that could ever happen to all individuals is for government to pick a winner. Let's vote for the freedom to have our debates and each individual sort out their own salvation like the bible tells us to do. I enjoyed this article allot and if Mitt Romney believed and lived these principles you have in your article I would like him just as much as Ron Paul (I'm form Missouri you have to show me.) It takes time for a person to prove themselves. I takes standing up for these principles even when the vote is 200 to 1. We don't have time for Mitt to prove himself. We must elect Ron Paul and hope that there will be many men (hopefully even Mormons like yourself) in the future who will stand up for the Liberty principles we hold dear. I look forward to when you run for office.

Outstanding piece. The

Outstanding piece. The author hits all the key points that lead so many reasonable people to Ron Paul.
Ever thought of running for Congress Richard?

I voted for Romney in '08 as

I voted for Romney in '08 as well. I live in Michigan and at that time I had just started to hear about Ron Paul, but decided on Romney due to not wanting McCain or even worse, Huck to be the nominee. I identify with the Romney supporters very well both in '08 and again in '12, which is why I think I'm able to convert more this time around.

I've honestly had a much harder time with Perry and Newt supporters. I know of two Perry supporters, one who will be voting for Perry(still!!) and the other who will be voting for whoever is in the lead because they think this process needs to end so we can focus on beating Obama. One set of grandparents is voting for Newt because evidently they remember the "glory" days of Newt in the 90's and think he'd be the best to debate Obama. I know one guy who is leaning Rick but said that he'd vote for Ron if Rick were out. Might be able to convince him that a vote for Rick is a vote for Romney (he hates him one degree less than Obama) though.

I have been able to get about twenty votes for Ron thus far, with almost forty more waiting for a state to be won as proof that he can actually win. These are all in Michigan. You have no idea how much I am wishing for one of the next four states to be won, I don't care which or by how much, just get me a dang state that we're in first to point to!

Slam dunk!

Really a great populist, de-centralist, cogent distillation of modern context.

Great read - some good material in there that could be used in our delegate speeches.

Alright!!

I was a Romney supporter in 2008, too. It's been quite an eventful 4 years. This guy had a very similar story to mine (I'm not Mormon though). Wow!

WOW!!! Outsanding Article!

And I've read quite a few Ron Paul articles. I just forwarded a copy to my several of my neocon friends and family. Thank You for posting this!

Outstanding Read!

Good on you!

One day, I'm gonna' change my name to Dale Lee Paul

There might be a huge tidal change among them but I don't know.

there are tons of Mormons screaming out there in cyber space like me at other Mormons and Americans in general to wake up and a lot of them have, but I truly think and have seen that unfortunately most Mormons are so enamored with the possibility of a Mormon president that, I think that real issues, not voting voting partisan politics, and political history of the candidates, Constitutional issues, financial issues, the debt,.......ect.ect.ect.ect. are almost non issues compared to the possibility of actually having a Mormon president in there mind. I really feel like they are acting very similarly toward Romney, like the blacks acted toward Obama, and for a lot of the same reasons!! I really wish this wasn't the case, but I wanted to really say it as I've seen it!! Of course if they cared enough to study up, watch the debates, read up on the candidates, and all the other time and effort it takes to learn the freedom message and how it relates to this election they'd wake up like any other red blooded American worth their weight in salt. But I warn other Freedom fighters out there to not underestimate their infatuation with the possibility of the US actually having a Mormon president. Just like a teen age love struck kid a lot of them aren't thinking too strait about this election. It really reminds me of how enamored a lot of Americans were about putting a man of color in the white house. The real issues be damned. I'm really not trying to be pessimistic about this issue at all!! I'm just trying to warn people about what I've really been seeing and experiencing among Mormons as I try to convert them to the freedom message!!!

In 1976 a lot of Baptists/baptistics voted for

a liberal Democrat, Jimmy Carter, because he was Baptist/Evangelical. I remember because I was there, there to be appalled.

Mormons for RP think for themselves were as ones for Mitt don't!

I'm Mormon and I've fought hard for Ron Paul and the freedom message ever since 2007 when I woke up to our situation. I've had my most rewarding times spreading the message among Mormons and some of my most frustrating experiences too! I really think that most Mormons who will really think for themselves, do their own research, really watch what is going on, and do a little soul searching that this would be a total no brainer for almost all of them, but many of them think a lot like Black people do toward Obama(the group mentality complex), and they feel some how more important and excepted if he is elected president even if they will never admit it! They always give the same three lame "A" answers why they support him. These are 1. He shares my same values. 2. He saved the olympics. 3. And I think that his business back ground will help get the economy back on track. I always beat them to the punch and tell them to tell me one reason other than these three why they want to vote for him, and most of them can't give me another reason other than that!! I think this voting problem isn't unique to my own people. I think there are a lot of groups in the US who vote like this and it is just as despicable!!! But, I think there are tons of Mormons who are waking up to the freedom message, but most of them will vote for Romney 'cause they are just like most other clueless Americans who are punch drunk on the cool aid!!

I wonder what Ezra Taft Benson

thought of the Romneys.

Well this should be a clue to Benson's thoughts:

See this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJNMcD2IY_k

That book (from 1971 - which Benson also had his written endorsement on the back cover) has a whole chapter condemning the Federal Reserve Bank in much the same way that Aaron Russo did in his 2006 film America: From Freedom to Fascism. Those who remember it was that film that gave Ron Paul much of his early impetus back in 2007 when Ron Paul started his first campaign as a Republican Presidential candidate.

These are some great words ..

"The concept of liberty requires you to make some changes in your own mindset:

I won’t fear terror.

I won’t expect something for nothing.

I don’t need government to enforce everything I believe.

I’ll work.

I’ll be self-sufficient.

I’ll take care of my family and the poor around me.

The change needs to happen in us."

Ron Paul Is Exciting!!!

I voted Obama in 08, and have come over for a Ron Paul vote in 2012. I know there's many more disenchanted democrats like me who've come over!

If moderate Republicans want anyone but Obama, fiscal Conservatives want Paul, Libertarians want Paul, Independents want Paul, and disenchanted Democrats want Paul, Ron Paul is the best choice for the Republican party to beat Obama. It's a large camp of inspired voters.

Right now Romney just has the "anyone but Obama" vote, which by itself isn't enough to win. If we put Paul out in front with the nomination, the enthusiasm surrounding Paul will inspire the moderates, and I believe we can ride this rocketship to the whitehouse.

If moderates want anyone but Obama, fiscal-conservatives want Paul, libertarians want Paul, independents want Paul, and disenchanted-democrats want Paul; Ron Paul is the best choice to beat the incumbent.

Same here

I was blind, but now I see. Go with someone who votes the way he talks. Not talking saying what they think I want to hear obama is such a joke compared to his campaign self.

awesome!

best argument i have ever read...booked marked to watch the vids at a later date..

This is excellent

I printed the whole thing out and will use it to help on Ron Paul's behalf.

Thank you for posting.

Great starter article! Spread this far and wide!

very amicable and well thought out argument for Ron Paul without using the antagonistic language that turns off many we're trying to reach. Great examples. Great links for further study and the comment section is doing a great job of dispelling all the "I like Ron Paul except: fill in the blank" comments.
