Some suggest that this might become a possiblity and a reality.

I can see it happening, its the printer part that I am trying to figure out. lol

No Way
Desktop Computers are still around even though Laptops have become more popular. The reason is because they hold so much more space and run a lot more efficiently than laptops. Even more so when put up against these fad 'tablets'.
They aren't easy or comfortable to hold, you don't have a way to stand it up or play demanding games on it, you don't have a way to print things from it and most importantly, they are simply an inferior product. The reason why it's catching on is because the Apple brand is searing red hot right now.
What is the purpose of the 'tablet' anyway? Convenience? Portable? Laptops are already easily able to be transported around, most briefcases nowadays have a space for your laptop. Smartphones already do practically everything that these tablets do anyway. They're smaller and sometimes hold more space than those tablets already available, plus you can call someone from it without Skype.
What will happen to Tablets? They'll fade away like most of Apple's failed projects, and Apple will come out with something else just as useless.
Anything a Tablet can do, a laptop or desktop can do 10x better, however small and lightweight a Tablet gets, a smartphone will be there that is smaller and lighter.
No. Cell phones and smaller devices will.
Anything that has enough power and storage and dock with a full size keyboard/monitor.

It certainly could happen...
As long as input device technology evolves along with it. There are some things that you just can't do easily without a larger device, especially due to the the full-size keyboard and often because of screen real estate.
HMDs are catching up; Vuzix and Lumus have some freakishly awesome products hitting consumers in the near future (mono/binocular transparent side-projection devices, mounted on regular glasses). The computing technology will definitely keep shrinking. It's just that input stuff that will start to have diminishing returns at a point.
Odd topic for the DP forums though, I must admit.

I think its pretty obvious
I think its pretty obvious that it will happen. Technology gets smaller over time and more portable over time. The tablet is the next logical step. Desktop computers are only still around because technology hasn't caught up yet. Landline phones are disappearing because of the development of the cell phone. Its the same sort of principle.
No need to have a big hulking outdated machine that takes up your whole desk when a powerful computer can slide in your pocket.
