Third party or Independent is not the way to go. Those advocating third party or independent sound like a bunch of freshmen cheering for the home team but don't understand how the game is played. As ballot access varies from state to state and access requirements varying from easy to very difficult you will spend the next four years collecting money and petitions and in the end you may get on the ballot in 35 to 45 states. Currently the Libertarian Party expects to be on the ballot in 45 states. The Constitution Party has secured ballot status in less than 30 states with hopes to get on a few more.
In 1988 the Libertarian Party was only able to get Dr. Paul on the ballot in 46 states. That was with an organization of several thousand supporters and 16 years experience in the ballot access game and a strong 50 state organization of dedicated Libertarians and we worked our asses off. At the end of the day the vast majority of the funds raised were used up getting on the ballot and very little left for campaigning.
SO,WHAT'S THE SOLUTION???
RESTORE THE REPUBLIC-an Party!!!
Restore the Republican Party to it's roots as the Party of the REPUBLIC. We have seen it already in Idaho and Nevada with the influence of the Paulatarians in changing the leadership of their respective parties. Ladies and Gentlemen it all starts with YOU in your neighborhood and your PRECINCT. Next find the other Paulatarians in your precinct to combine your time, energy and talents to become precinct committeemen and precinct committeewomen to work toward leadership positions to RESTORE the REPUBLIC and the REPUBLIC-an Party. Next find the Paulatarians in other precincts adjacent to yours and encourage and support them to emulate your successes. The next step is on to the County Party where you will have an opportunity to effect change of the Party at the county level.
From there it is on to the State Party where you will have an opportunity to work for changes in party rules, the platform and other interesting and exciting ways to RESTORE the REPUBLIC-an Party and our once GREAT REPUBLIC.
We can do it if we want to. We can be the change we want and there's nothing to it but to do it. So it's off your ass and on to your feet, out of the shade and into the heat to shout it out from the rooftops and the Village Green, THE PAULITARIANS ARE COMING, THE PAULATARIANS ARE COMING. ps: While I'm not a member of the precinct committee I will be working as a voter registrar helping voters fill out the form to change their voter registration from unaffiliated to Republican and checking ID. and residency/address change so they can vote in our first ever Presidential Caucus.

Party Splits
It's been a daydream of mine for a while; I should probably research the creation of these parties, but...
I assumed like the Libertarian Party started as people in the (R) party who were shunned, so they made their own party. People lose, Establishment wins.
Later, same thing happens and the Constitution Party is formed. People divided even more, establishment even stronger.
If those people had just stayed in. Or if those 2 parties could just disband, and join the (R) party (along with some other splinter groups, Freedom party, perot's party, etc...) We the People could win.
But all I hear is how to splinter another group off, and divide/weaken Us more. People calling for Ron to run 3rd or create his own party... ugh. My wish is for the Libertarian/Constitution/etc... to get back into the (R) party and kick those corrupt jerks out, the ones who took it over in history and coopted it and turned it into the monster that it currently is.

Ron Paul is currently getting priceless, high profile, national coverage on a daily basis at no cost only because he is riding the GOP vehicle.
Talk of abandoning the GOP at this time appear to be totally ego driven and would only help to drive RP's campaign back into the dark ages with the same national coverage as the Libertarian, Constitution, or Green Parties. When was the last time you heard them mentioned on the TV or in the newspaper or in subscription based magazines? The only reason RP is mentioned daily on FOX, MSNBC, CNN, CSAN, ABC, NBC, CBS etc. is because he is still alive and riding the GOP vehicle and creating controversy.
He's winning hearts and minds and volunteers every day. We are in a battle with the powers that be and we are winning. We are increasing in numbers and influence on a daily basis. Why undermine our momentum? the MSM thrives on controversy. A third party run it the biggest fear the GOP has.
The time to maximize the 3rd party threat will be in Tampa when we have maximum support, influence and coverage. Ron Paul has lived in the belly of the political beast for 30 years against all odds. I think you should trust his wisdom, insight and experience and also his team of advisors which IMHO far exceeds the experience of those seeking 3rd party recognition.
I trust Ron and his advisors.

Ballot access is not a breeze and the lawyers will be out in full force. Lawsuit after lawsuit, at least one maybe two in each state. It chews through resources quickly having to pay legal teams to show up in court every day all over the country. This was Ralph Nader's biggest issue in 2000. Gore sued him in many states in an effort to keep him off the ballot. Even tough he won most of the challenges, he still had to fight each of them...Then there are the debates, run by the media outlets. We all know how much they like us. What makes anyone think we would get debate access. If we were polling at 10%, they'd say we needed to be at 20%. If we were at 20, they tell us we needed to be at 30.

Third party talk at this stage is counterproductive. There isn't the time to mount a third party campaign, and quite frankly it's getting old talking about it. It would just split our voting block up, and we're not going to fall for that.
The notion that you can just round up a few billionaires willing to spend the cash necessary, well that's just absurd. There isn't even a decent number of celebrities that are willing to back Paul openly and earnestly. Brad Pitt makes a half-hearted comment, Bill Gross says he's a little "Paulish". It's just ridiculous. Gross is a grown man, a professional. You can't get a little bit pregnant, and you can't have a little conviction where these sorts of matters are concerned. So keep the focus where it matters most, on YOU!
You guys need to let reality sink in. There's only one group of people that want this badly enough, and that's you. You need to make this happen. Yes, the mega-endorsements are nice and the massive money contributions from the likes of Thiel are a major plus. But this was always you vs the status quo.
Look, think of this like a game, a chess game.
You guys have been scoring points, coming up with really creative ideas, and basically ruling the airwaves.
Then the real electioneering starts, and some of you are freaking out and losing your nerve.

DON'T be so stupid as to fall for it. Just keep doing what you're doing. If you win, it's going to be because you kept playing offense.
And if you lose, at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you gave it your all and didn't go into a loser "prevent defense" at the last moment.
Don't hand your enemy victory. Make them fight for every inch of soil, for every vote. This is a ground game. Ground games need scrappers, not whiners.
Get creative. Go way outside the box and you will surprise yourself what you are capable of creating.

True, talk of an Independent run at this point may be a tad premature...but it won't be in 2 months! AmericansElect has already done the work. Ron Paul would be the AmericansElect candidate and have automatic ballot access. He can still raise money and the Super PACs would still support him.
Here is how I see it...if the GOP is too bought-out to nominate an honest, freedom-loving good man like Ron Paul...then we need to torch the GOP. This is their last chance to do something right and good...else lose relevancy. The rise of a 3rd party will be decisively anti-establishment. Then we'll starting having REAL debates and REAL choices to make at the voting both. No more voting for the lesser of two evils!!!! (this is why AmericansElect was created)...

How About a No Party System?
I should point out that every ballot has a write-in line.
In 1994 the GOP in Washington state tried to cram an establishment type down our throats in the 3rd congressional district. Grassroots supporters organized a write-in campaign that won the GOP primary for Linda Smith. That was my first involvement in a political campaign.
I agree with the point of this thread though, and for now we need to focus on building the libertarian wing of the Republican party.
But just keep in mind (as a last resort), you don't need to be on the ballot to win. Besides wouldn't it be funny if RP won as an independent (with no party affiliation) and then the sitting president had to run for re-election in the GOP primary in 2016?

The supreme court has ruled in favour of Super PACs... get some libertarian minded millionaires/billionaires together, and the 'money' problem of 1988 goes away.

This country has not always been dominated by a two party paradigm. Parties come and parties go. There is room for a new party that shares our values of freedom and liberty. The more we try to work within a fixed two party paradigm...the longer we'll wait for real change (look what they did to the "Tea Party"). They OWN both parties (the proof is in the Nevada Caucus among others). We need our own party...then the choice will be clear for voters.
Ron Paul CAN run as an Independent and be on the ballot in 46 of 50 states. Ever heard of American's Elect? Go to:

I joined the GOP 8 months ago. This is my first time since 1976 belonging to a Major Party. Now that I've joined, I see very clearly what Ron Paul was saying in 07/08. We can take this party. It's not even a party. It's a shell being occupied by Democrats in my county.
Who is occupying your RCC? Do you go? Do you know?
How many third parties have you experience with? Since I worked with Ralph Nader on Independent ballot access, I've worked with 36. And since Nader ran as an Indy, I have 12 years experience. What do you have?

and accomplish ballot access in ways they don't reveal for starters. They are privately funded, and appear to take advantage of all the voters who are angry at BOTH major parties. Instead of an Indy chosing his party, for example, an Indy used to be able to say, "Give me a GOP ballot please", and then they could vote for Ron Paul. Now, they will get an Americans Elect ballot and NOT be able to vote for Ron Paul. But who knows? Only they do, and they aren't telling.

Ron Paul is stepping up to stop the GOP from being a NWO enabler and I'm helping. We may not win, but that does not mean I'm leaving the GOP, I will continue to do the job Ron Paul has been doing alone. I will vote for whoever he suggests if he is not on the ballot, and if he suggests no one, then, no one. As for Americans Elect, that's fast tracking the NWO because as it stands, so many people are fed up with BOTH parties, the majority of registered voters in many places is Independent. Americans Elect is primed to take advantage of this, by FORCING Indys to vote for who ever their candidate is... Ron Paul on their site is a red herring. Ron Paul is NOT looking, seeking or wanting nomination on Americas Elect, and if he did, he won't put all those who have stuck their necks out, joined the GOP, attended meetings, run for offices in danger and I don't believe he would do that. ... Answer: One million Ron Pauls. Sure it'd be nice if Ron won this election, and he might still do it! But WE are the backup plan if he doesn't win.
He's fought for the last 30 years, and without my help (I'm a fully converted neo-con). My punishment? It's now my responsibility to carry the message for at least the next 30 years.
Unlike Ron, I won't be quite so outnumbered. Maintain the organization, regardless of the outcome of this election, and be prepared for all attempts to divide our support (the establishment will try to create a wedge, that is how they operate).
