PPP Poll: Santorum Leads Romney in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — The Republican caucuses in Minnesota on Tuesday are a virtual toss up, with frontrunner Mitt Romney trailing former senator Rick Santorum by a small margin, a poll showed Sunday.

Romney, who strengthened his lead for the White House race with a solid win Saturday in the Nevada caucuses, faces a tougher challenge in the midwestern state, based on the survey from Public Policy Polling.

The poll gave Santorum, a narrow winner in neighboring Iowa, 29 percent of the vote to 27 percent for the former Massachusetts governor.

Former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, whose campaign appears to be losing steam, was at 18 percent while congressman Ron Paul held 12 percent, the poll showed.

Minnesota has 40 delegates at stake in its non-binding caucuses, which will select delegates to the Republican convention to choose the party's candidate to face Democratic President Barack Obama in November.

PPP released another poll

PPP released another poll from yesterday. Santorum pulled away to 33 percent, but Romney fell to 20 and Gingrich stayed at 22. Ron Paul rose to 20%. So, just from these to polls, Santorum increased his lead, but Ron is within striking distance of second.

at what time

do the polls close in these three states?

For Santorum, a second chance to shine in Tuesday caucuses

It's drawn none of the hype lavished on early GOP primaries, but more delegates are technically on the table in Tuesday's nominating contests than on any day so far this cycle. For the first time, the spotlight will be shared between multiple states, when Republican voters head out to caucus in Minnesota (40 delegates) and Colorado (36 delegates), as well as to a "beauty contest" in Missouri. (Under their peculiar rituals, the results in all three states are non-binding. Minnesota and Colorado will apportion delegates through local conventions, while Missouri will award its 52 delegates based on the results of its March 17 caucuses.) And while back-to-back wins in Florida and Nevada suggest Mitt Romney is once again on a glide path to the nomination, Tuesday's contests present a second chance for Rick Santorum to elbow his way back into the picture as the chief conservative alternative to the Massachusetts governor.

Meaningless!!!!

The same damn peeps that would choose Santorum in a PPP poll are the same damn people who come to the caucus, vote in the straw poll, and then leave before the nomination and election of delegates even occurs. Trust me on this. We will get our delegates here in MN. Sweater vests are not welcome here.

You see

We're not the only ones with a strategy .... While we collect delegates....so does Goldman Sacs only they have three candidates. After Nevada , unless we work to expose this election rigging I don't see the point I participating in their mouse trap. Time to reevaluate our position.

Is Minnesota really this stupid?

I thought there were lots of Ron Paul people there.

Here is a weird thing - In Ron Paul's 2008 campaign, Michele Bachmann hosted several Town Hall type events and had Dr. Paul on as the guest.

It was televised and got a lot of publicity.

She was very cordial and fair to him during these events.

So what the hell happened to Bachmann???

How did she lose her principles so badly in such a short time?

I'm still scratching my head over this.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

No they are not and there are many Paul supporters

But the people will not be deciding....it will Goldman Sacs that decides and they will announce the results on their network...Fox News

Santorum pursues surge in Colorado, Minnesota

DENVER — The Republican presidential race could be headed for another reshuffle Tuesday as Rick Santorum, who has lagged behind since his surprise Iowa victory, is once again challenging the dominance of front-runner Mitt Romney.

Polling over the past week shows Mr. Santorum statistically tied with Mr. Romney in Minnesota, besting him in Missouri, and running second to him but ahead of rival Newt Gingrich in Colorado, all of which hold contests Tuesday.

Mr. Romney’s camp took notice, firing the kinds of broadsides it generally has aimed at Mr. Gingrich. Romney surrogates on Monday accused Mr. Santorum of pork-barrel spending. The Romney campaign also tried to blunt Mr. Santorum’s attacks by pointing out that the former senator from Pennsylvania endorsed Mr. Romney in 2008.

“Typical Romney,” Mr. Santorum said on the campaign trail, dismissing the criticism.

“He goes out and throws the kitchen sink and runs negative ads and sends out his surrogates to rip and tear, even though he is as vulnerable on this issue as anybody,” said Mr. Santorum. “I don’t think it’s going to work this time.”

I'm pretty sure Newsmax mixed

I'm pretty sure Newsmax mixed up the PPP results for Colorado with Minnesota. They even mention the exact same numbers for Gingrich and Paul in Colorado later in the article. According to Real Clear Politics, PPP has Gingrich at 22% and Paul at 19%.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/febru...

Why does this PPP .pdf show

Ron Paul at 12% in MN? It's dated 2/5/2012. Never mind - the 12% is for Colorado. Shows Paul at 19% in MN: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_COMO...

Screw the polls, it is

Screw the polls, it is blatant propagandas, get out there and vote with your brains (and encourage others to do so) not with your eyes people.

"The true Patriot will repeal the Patriot Act..." - Ron Paul.

It sure gets discouraging to see Dr. Paul

in last place, or next to last, especially trailing Mitt and Newt, and OMG even Santorum. There is such a stark diffence in Ron Paul and these other so called conservatives. It's hard to accept that Americans have become so gullible for big government lies.

.

This is good!

We NEED Gingrich and Santorum to STAY in the race. Because they, along with Dr. Paul will keep Romney from a majority at the convention. Then...

At every state primary precinct, as the delegates are being selected to go to the State's Convention, Ron Paul supporters are getting those delegate slots. At the State Convention those Ron Paul delegates will be sent to the National Convention.

AT THE National Convention, upon the first call of the votes, Romney will NOT get the majority, as a result of Paul Gingrich and Santorum ALL having delegates. BUT, and here is the clincher, AFTER the first call doesn't produce a majority winner, the delegates are then UNBOUND from having to vote for the respective candidate. Being that the majority of delegates are Ron Paul supporters, (whether or not they were originally bound to Santorum, Gingrich, or Romney), when the next call happens the Ron Paul people will give Ron the majority thus the Nomination.

So, there you have it. That MEANS that it is SUPER IMPORTANT, that no matter WHO WINS the primary vote, for Ron Paul supporters to become the local delegates!!

LionandLambMinistry nailed it with your post below.

By keeping the other 2 other buffoons in the race it neutralizes Romney and keeps him from getting the 1144 votes needed.

But it's still damn discouraging to see Ron in 4th and the biggest idiot of all-Santorum leading.

I have to look at this from a strategic perspective and move on.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

would still like a win

Or another strong second. At least then we can have the media give us the "surge" comment for 2 days before back to building up the other three.

I hear ya

But if that 76 year old man can drive forward EVERYDAY of this campaign, and NOT give up, with all the media put downs, we can SURELY CONTINUE to support him unabated!

Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

So, if Santorum polls 1st place in MN up until Tuesday...

That means he'll finish 3rd, right? That seems to be the going trend for people who are not Romney or Gingrich. Or is it only for people named Paul?
