Most special phone call of my life
Submitted by true_believer on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 09:11I got woke up this morning by a call from my nephew telling me to "wake up and go vote I already did". My nephew is 12 years old and he went into the voting booth with his mom this morning. She let him vote for who he wanted to be president and he picked Ron Paul. After they got done, on his way to school, he called me to tell me to vote and let me know he had voted Ron Paul. He was very excited. He has been watching the different elections in each state with me as the votes come in online. My mother answered the phone and was very impressed with how excited he was to vote for Ron Paul. I told my mother, "maybe there is hope for this country after all". I cannot tell you the pride I feel in my heart this morning. My nephew rocks!

Here's one from my own similar experience. My nephew was in kindergarten during the 2008 election. Their class had a mock presidential election. Despite there being 10 or so candidates on the ballot in our State the teacher gave the kids only two options, McCain or Obama. When it was my nephew's turn to vote he refused to vote for McCain or Obama, said that he was voting for Ron Paul. The teacher told him that he was only "allowed" to vote for McCain or Obama to which he replied that he did not care, he was voting for Ron Paul and that was that. +1 for Ron Paul in the 2008 kindergarten mock election.

Your story is one example of why I haven't completely lost hope for America. I am a certified high school teacher. When I am around older kids lately, I'm noticing something different about them than my generation (I'm 31). The biggest concern for my generation, and a lot of the ones before, wasn't will I have a job when I graduate college; it was what will I do when I graduate college. I graduated with a science degree in 2010. My whole life I have heard that science teachers are in great demand. I can't find a job! This generation has a true concern. Unfortunately, the combined voting numbers for people under 50 is far out-weighed by those over 50 (baby boomers). My father is on the the cusp of this generation. I know how stubborn most of these people can be when discussing politics with a younger person. The consequence is that before we can have real change we must either change the mindsets of this demographic or wait until they start dying off and the numbers balance. Sounds harsh, but it is true. There is always hope for the future. Every empire falls eventually. Let's just hope that we are around to pick up the pieces.

there are way more under 50 than over 50. It will surprise you when you see it. I looked it up about 2 weeks ago and I was surprised as well.
