See Saturday's "Mexican trucks allowed in U.S. despite ban" article http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation/story/366683.html

Go, Paul! Tonight on ABC. Don't ignore the ban!

Absolutely! This guy is right on!

Everyone else is not even interested in these things, till Ron Paul makes an issue out of the subject, and people's ears pick up, i.e. the IRS, then they all get it in THEIR playbook,,,,, no different than coaching football.

Ron needs to come out with both barrels blazing. He's already setting the tone for the whole election, it's just a pisser to see everyone else singing his tune and getting credit for writing the song.

Got Hoffa's address.

They have 1.4 million members. Let's write and ask for their support. What do ya'll think?

Not Likely

Paul is for the free market. His positions regarding the complex rules and regulations which serve as a barrier to entry to the trucking business are directly opposed to everything the Teamsters stand for. They'd never support him.

Something to consider

Something to consider though, Hoffa and the teamsters are opposed to NAFTA and so is Ron Paul. So they are not directly opposed to each other.

The Bush administration ignores

Bush has ignored the will of the people, and the congress. This is an issue that can be used by Ron Paul. The candidates are all talking about change and it would be a big change if the president just obeyed the laws.
Illegal immigration is one of the main concerns of todays electorate, and Ron Paul should capitalize on it provided it is what he believes.

Kent

congressional mandate to ban the trucks from U.S. highways.

It is being ignored.

Big government

But that is central government restricting trade. That's not free trade.

The Mexican trucks plan is

The Mexican trucks plan is part of NAFTA and Ron Paul is opposed to NAFTA and wants to get rid of it.

What do you mean?

Not sure what you mean. Paul is for free trade, so what would be his argument? If the government does not interfere with trade then there would be Mexican trucks going back and forth all the time.

If a Mexican truck can bring me food cheaper than an American truck, that's great and what free trade is all about.

Tradin Goods and Services or Jobs

I think Pedro didnt have the legal right to work in the US until NAFTA.NAFTA is the law at this moment. Now for the counter argument.

All those that see Pedro's Job as a free trade should consider their own jobs as Free Trade also. Meaning Juanita can come up here and take your office job because she can do it cheaper than you. Maybe not as efficiently but still cheaper. Cheaper nurses, cheaper lawyers, cheaper secretaries, cheaper doctors, cheaper brokers and policemen etc. Hell Ill be for that if this elites are willing to free trade their jobs also. Aint that wonderful for nurses to make 500 dollars a month. I mean who the hell is gonna put up the effort to go to Medical school to end up making 1000 dollars a month. Also how about our right to take Mexican Jobs by just moving south (ie. free trading). I mean, if wages are gonna go down here due to free trading jobs, then why can we go to Mexico and take their jobs at their rates. Eventually the wages in Mexico will go up and the ones in the US will go down. But your mortgage is gonna stay the same. At that pace Mexico seems like a better place to go. Move there and get a mortgage and just see your salary going up as time goes by. For the ones who stayed here. Go to bankrupcy court every 7 years because your income is going down all the time.

Free trading jobs is a fools idea.
Free trading goods and services is another story

this isn't free trade

this is free access to our country and our roads by Mexican truck drivers in Mexican trucks which may or may not be inspected for safety like US trucks. This is Pedro taking some American trucker's job. Thanks NAFTA.

When you're involved in an accident with one, I'm sure their insurance will pay everything and the truck will be totally safe and the driver knew our road laws too. It will be just fine.

Incidentally, in Germany, people bitch about the eastern european trucks that are falling apart with drivers who drive longer than the legal limit and fall asleep causing accidents too. But we don't live in Europe or an American Common Market----yet.

It should be fair trade and not free trade

beacuse there is nothing free anywhere in life.
In my opinion, if it was more of an exchange of people just like it happens in any normal trade where you exchnage somethiing for some other thing. it would automatically provide the balance and checks i.e. ensure fairness. So, for every Mexican coming in and taking American job the Mexican govt either has the choice to import an American and provide equal paying job as the Mexican got in US or have that accounted as trade deficit ( i.e. pay for it dollars/gold). Now, to begin with we may not have to have a 1:1 realtionship i.e. one Mexican for one American exchange but that should be goal in some 10-15 years from now. That will allow the whole inequity about job loss, working conditions, non-level playing field taken care of by the "fair market" itself.

This is a very interesting subject. Hope to hear more.

But Pedro should take the job

You may have a point about safety regulations, but Pedro should take some American trucker's job if he can do it cheaper. That's what free trade is about. Paul is not a protectionist. If there is free trade, which Paul does support, some Americans are going to lose their jobs and have to move into other more profitable industries. That's a good thing, not a bad thing, because it lowers prices for consumers.

Consider WHY Pedro can do it cheaper!

Pedro, and his Mexican employer do not have to abide by agency regulations such as OSHA, EPA,ADA, etc. Also Pedro DOES NOT have to be provided with Minimum wage, Health insurance, paid vacations, etc.
The PLAYING FIELD is NOT LEVEL! How about FAIR trade?!

But he's not for Open

But he's not for Open Borders. Pedro would have to apply and file the proper paperwork. It really isn't different from him wanting to work at Taco Bell in Houston 'cause they pay better or stocking shelves at Walmart in Atlanta. Free Trade doesn't just throw the door open. There are privileges to being a legal citizen in the United States.

Now you can make a case for Pedro loading up his pickup with pottery and driving across the border to sell it in a flea market. But long haul trucking is different.

Where....

Where is the head quarters on these issues. Ron Paul needs a press conference. Bring up this isssue, the week dolla,r oil prices sky rocketing, job losses, with a slam on McCain for 100 years in Iraq

I am a truck driver

and I can see wages dropping already. Not only are the truck drivers going to be affected by this , the long shoremen on the west coast are going to take a hit when they get the new ship docks in mexico finished.

The problem is also American jobs! American Truck driver jobs

being lost to Mexican drivers coming in. Forget the safety fight for our jobs!

Dr. Paul needs to tout his own record more.

While the other candidates talk a good game they can't back up those words by their past actions.

Ron Paul can and that's why he's needs to talk about his record more and encourage people to go to his government website and read some of his speeches that he has given on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Check out his record, then compare it to the rest of the field.

If people aren't willing to do that for themselves, their children and grandchildren. Then maybe they aren't ready for a change, maybe they aren't ready for freedom.

This issue is on the forefront of almost American

Don't let this die. I say it is treason to allow Mexican drivers in!
This is a very important issue those that say otherwise or try to downplay it
are either very foolish or support the Mexican invasion!

Mexican mayhem

A large number of those trucks have been deemed unsafe. But our government looks the other way. Yesterday the markets dropped after the news of the 5% unemployment rate in the US. Now they have fear of a recession. If the illegals were booted out and manufacturing jobs stopped moving out of the country (Est 15000 last month) where would our unemployment numbers be? Even worse is the annoucement from the Mexican government yesterday stating they will challenge the new employment laws in New Mexico. What the hell gives them the right to challenge anything here? I'm tempted to buy a bus myself, round them up and drive them south.

NAFTA gives them that right

NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA, WTO, these are all contractual agreements and they supercede the LAW.

So?

But even without those trade agreements, if you have free trade, then it would still happen. Paul is a free trader.

No equal protection

Pedro should not take a truckers job unless Carlitos can take your job also. Now if you want truckers to loose their jobs to cheaper Pedro, then Carlitos should take yours also in the name of free trade. That is fair. However, NAFTA at this moment is the law and it must be killed.

The states should outlaw it anyhow

just to make a statement.

The constitution should also be amended to prevent this kind of monkey business. There is clear purpose to the concept of treaties and executive orders in that overseas conference calls used to be impossible and it was possible to anticipate that expedience would be necessary for a treaty for something like ending a war. Having those things trump our sovereignty now is unnecessary and can only be used for abuse.
