“Project Megiddo” Or “Why James Bowery Should Run the FBI”

I’ve been one of those anti-government extremists ever since I testified before Congress as the chair of a grassroots organization that got legislation passed to restrict the Federal government’s competition with private technology companies and learned, first hand, just how corrupt the Beltway really is. That was 20 years ago.

This radicalization led me to become interested in what the FBI calls “Odinist groups” during the 1990s.

The story "FBI warns of threat from anti-government extremists" has inspired me to revive something I blogged in 2007.

Prior to the year 2000, the schools of thought for potential terrorist events timed around the turn of the millennium included the FBI’s and mine.

With hindsight of 12 years, decide for yourself which was better intelligence.

Just prior to the year 2000, the FBI published a report from its “Project Megiddo” which is pretty much characterized by the following sentence:

Militias, adherents of racist belief systems such as Christian Identity and Odinism, and other radical domestic extremists are clearly focusing on the millennium as a time of action.

This differs significantly from my own early 1998 prediction:

Check out the ethnicity of the folks at Clinton’s “town meeting” trying to trump up support for a war in the middle east on behalf of Israel—putting the US in a lonely international position and making people like you and I a target for terrorism or a Jewish-inspired Reichstag.
