Michigan Primary - Open Thread
Submitted by jeffjeffjeff on Tue, 02/07/2012 - 22:54In preparation for our Open Primary here in Michigan, which will be held on February 28th, I've been looking into anything I can do to help reduce the chances of voter fraud.
I've just recently become aware of a concept of what is referred to as a "poll tape" which appears to be standard print out that comes from the vote tabulators that looks a lot like a receipt. According to this video it would be of some value if were to gain copies of these poll tapes in order to validate them against any officially reported results. According to the information in the video not all polling locations provide poll tapes so we will need to find whether they are available at all or some of the precincts in Michigan. So far it appears that in the documentation I found on michigan.gov these poll tapes may be referred to as a "Totals Tape" but I'm not positive if these are the same thing yet nor have I found any indication that these documents are made public at my polling place (precinct 36B) or any other location in Michigan.
Something that I did stumble across while researching about poll tapes is a set of rules about "Challengers". From what I gather challengers are any maximum of two people from any group or political party and are allowed to inspect the voting equipment, observe the voting process, and even participate in activities such as questioning individual voter validity. The details are laid out in this presentation under the section labeled Challengers. If anybody is interested we may want to organize some challengers for each precinct where we can politely observe the voting process to ensure that there is no funny business going on. Perhaps this would be a great task for our official campaign precinct leaders to do or at least to organize.
Most of what I've picked up so far comes from blackboxvoting.org and I'm still in the process of learning about it so I welcome anybody to reply if they have anything further to add or perhaps correct about what I've stated here. Lets try to do our part to ensure we have a fair vote for the Michigan GOP Primary.

I was reading that many
I was reading that many machines used in Michigan, "jam up", so someone at polling might have to open to unjam. Also the state blocked attempts to count ballots? In other words electronic voting only. Why can't people working the polls hand count some as a sample of how accurate electronic voting is?
If Rev Pac exit polls
are different from the results, at least there are paper back-ups which shouldn't be hard to count. I'm guessing Rev Pac needs volunteers for as many precincts as possible!
Michigan Precinct Delegates
are elected in the statewide August Primary and the filing deadline to be on the ballot is March? No need to stick around after the February Primary? Can anyone comment or confirm this. I have family in MI to convince.
No need to stick around after the February Primary
you are correct.
Thanks
and oops: michigan.gov says that May 15 is filing deadline to run for precinct delegate.

Super Brochures for Michigan?
I wanted to also voice that I've been waiting for Michigan to show up on the Super Brochure site so that I can at least have them sent out to voters in my and surrounding precincts. Whats the deal, is Michigan being skipped?
http://ronpaulbrochure.com/
From what I understand Arizona and Michigan are the next contests. Shouldn't they be available for mailing these brochures?
Yeah they did'nt put those States up
You can still mail some yourself, are you on facebook?
The mail man did not take my Ron Paul brochures...
that were addressed and stamped. Do they have to be put in an oversized envelope to go through the mail?
