Mich GOP To Me: Please Give Us Money! My Reply...
Submitted by C_T_CZ on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 15:56Today I got a letter from Robert Schostak, Michigan GOP Chairman, asking for money. I quickly pounded out a letter and mailed it back in their self-addressed postage paid envelope. Was I too harsh?
Robert Schostak,
I am disgusted with the Republican party.
I have been a life long member of the Libertarian party. I switched only to vote for Ron Paul.
I am disgusted at how the Republican party treats Ron Paul.
I am disgusted that neocons want more policing the world and wars, all while living in denial that it is bankrupting us and this activity is the principle cause of blowback that directly threatens our national security.
I am disgusted that Ron Paul stands alone, unsupported by the Republican party, in demanding wars are declared Constitutionally.
I am disgusted that Ron Paul stands alone, unsupported by the Republican party, in demanding a Constitutionally sound monetary policy and full FED audit.
I am disgusted that Ron Paul stands alone, unsupported by the Republican party, in demanding respect for our personal liberties.
I will proudly vote for Ron Paul as the Republican nominee. No matter if he is the actual nominee or not, I will proudly write in his name in the general election.
I once thought I could be a Ron Paul Republican, but that quickly vanished as my disgust with neocon policies grew. I will return to the true conservative party, the Libertarians, and proudly be a Ron Paul Libertarian.
Just to be perfectly crystal clear, I would rather see Obama in for another 4 years than any of the establishment Republican candidates. I sincerely hope that millions of Americans join me in making the neocon GOP a party of the past.
Take your request for money and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Is that clear enough for you?

No
Millions of people have contributed to the Ron Paul campaign in some form or another. Thousands have made great sacrifices financially and in time, even shutting down businesses or delaying education for the sake of liberty.
It concerns me that you would readily sabotage that just to bow down to your feelings.
I stand with those who think the cause is more important than their anger or their collective thinking of others.
I think one who finds his work blocked because of your petty rant will be pretty upset. Don't be surprised if their frustration is directed at you.
I encourage people to think twice and ask fellow Paulians before sending of any rant like this.
LOVE IT
I thought it was great. I myself have sent in a few letters..I was no where near as nice as you are..so much not so..that I cant put what I said here..lol.
I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change
Spindale-Rutherford County-North Carolina
I just switched parties
I hope they send me a letter thanking me or asking for money so I can tell them, "I only switched parties so I could vote for Ron Paul and after the elections I will be returning to the independent party because I will not live my life in fear of my government, whose job is to protect its citizens from threats foreign and domestic, and sir quite frankly, I feel the republican and democratic party to be a domestic threat to my liberties."
"Give me liberty or give me death" Patric Henry
You are right to give them a piece of your mind.....
The Grand OLD Party needs a wakeup call. But, maybe it's better not to burn the bridge. They are old and they are not for America at all. How is it old people send young people off to war so causually and then stick them with the bill? I did a similar letter when they asked for my support for Gov. Lingle's senate run. She lost me when she rammed Monsanto down our throats and they took over our only large organic farm. I'm a life long Republican turned liberitarian though after Fox conned me into believing that Ron Paul dropped out. I'm older but I'm not fooled by these Neonazicons.
You sound...
Hate to say it, but you sound more full of yourself than Dr. Paul's talking points!
I would suggest you lose the Libertarian party pride, the 'I's', and attitude, then focus on the real reason the GOP will receive less support from the people who love liberty.
It is because the grassroots electorate love freedom in ownership of private property, free markets, limited government, sound money, their sovereign nation neighbors, and the lives of their families, children, and grandchildren!
We love them all, far more dearly than we love any Fuehrer Principe!
You the party may try to earn that support, and there might be a way. But, our precious resources will be spent in the fight to retain all that we love! No doubt you understand sir.
Sorry it came across that way
Hi JS,
Sorry it came across that way. I wrote that letter pretty quickly and a lot of DP suggestions have been fantastic. I'll keep all these points in mind in case the GOP fails to remove me from their donation solicitation list :)
In his farewell address to the nation, George Washington warned Americans against political parties. He warned that people may develop an allegiance to their party greater than their allegiance to the Constitution. I think this is exactly what has happened today. I do have an affiliation with the Libertarian party stronger than any other party, and I do carry that with some pride. After all, in almost all ways they champion the same message that Ron Paul champions. The Neocon GOP needs to be brought kicking and screaming into alignment with personal liberty and freedom, whereas the Libertarian party is already there.
I truly respect Ron Paul and other people who are trying to change the GOP from within. You have greater fortitude and perseverance than I. If the fight becomes an insurmountable barrier, you can be comforted knowing that there is another party you can join whose members already respect the Constitution, Liberty, and Freedom. And as a bonus, they also will not pull nefarious shennanagans when it comes to vote counting.
Thanks again for the feedback,
Chris

I hear you
and don't doubt I'd spend the time writing a similar letter, even while knowing some flunky will probably just discard it upon finding no money or pledge inside. Writing is worth my time even if nobody reads it because it helps me crystallize my thoughts.
New Hampshire and Ecuador.
Its kind of annoying
seeing I am disgusted written over and over again. This letter definitely does not really help the cause, it is far too abrasive. You should be a little more covert. Inflitrating the GOP like ninjas will work to our advantage way more than attacking the NeoCon establishment head on. Of course we have people doing that and gettting new supporters over to our side by painting the contrast between Ron Paul and the GOP establishment hacks, but attacking them like this is not what the Liberty movement is all about. Lead by example to change hearts and minds.
i would have said i'll give money right after
you publicly endorse Ron Paul for President
That is a fine letter, but
That is a fine letter, but you forgot to include the brick in the postage paid envelope ; ) .
I would have sent them...
...5 $100 bills of MONOPOLY (tm) money with a note attached: "This money is as real as the money in your pocket. End the Fed. Ron Paul 2012."

And I'm about to make a donation to my state GOP
Because I'd like to be a delegate, and I want to be considered a member in good standing - at this point in time.
Having said that, I understand what you said - entirely.

Thanks for standing up and helping them to understand without us there nothing.
The way i wouldve done it.
I would probably write something to the effect of, "Dear Mr Chairman, I am including (in cash) the amount that i think what the current GOP is worth."
Then I'd tape a few pennies, and maybe throw in a nickle.
That's my 2 cents (haha).
No,no
Keep your nickels! Obama is going to sign off on a bill, and the treasury will start making them out of steel...next year I think.

An alternate style
Others might want to say something different and even those who want to say the same thing might take a different approach. Here is an approach that might fit better with writers of a different, perhaps more timid, personality (correct grammar and readability as needed):
Dear Party Leader,
Thank you for considering me when looking for contributions for local party activities.
I am new to the Republican Party. I joined to come alongside life-long Republicans who are working to restore the party to traditional conservatism and and are promoting the nomination of Ron Paul for President. It is exciting to see the party embracing liberty as part of its values.
As a new Republican I am very excited about supporting Ron Paul. I like Paul and his ideas. [elaborate here]
However, though many Republicans are working for this nomination and for the return to the freedom orientation of the party, my feelings are hurt. It seems that many in party leadership and responsibility have been treating Ron Paul, his long-time supporters in the party, and even new-comers like me poorly. I am new to the party, so I'm not really concerned about me, but it hurts me that those I am working beside in the party, party faithful for years, and Paul, too, are subjected to disrespect and whose work, it is rumored, is subjected to abuse and shenanigans that party leadership should prevent.
It feels that most of this is from those who hold a narrow view of Republican ideals, who some call neocons. It seems the neocon view is not able to mature or learn--or even look inward to see the Republican love of free markets and free minds.
Because of this I am hesitant to made a contribution. Let me say that stronger. I decline to make a contribution. I do not want to contribute to what might be systemic disrespect to the development of the Republican party. I am even wondering if I belong in the Republican party.
I hope my comments are helpful to you as you work to better this nation.

With all due respect, and
With all due respect, and IMO, I think a "milquetoast" response to the GOP at this point in time is worthless. It takes a strong "I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS ANYMORE" tune for them to even acknowledge there's a problem in the ranks. I appreciate C_T_CZ's response, because I'm way beyond the point of "my feelings are hurt."
If its
What you wanted to say. I'm glad you said it
"Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past you must fight just to keep them alive"
I hope it was cathartic
Because they probably didn't read past the second line.
off the map
You should have said you wished the neocon GOP would be wiped off the face of the earth.
I Would Of Wrote A Nicer Letter
Basically starting off the money I was going to donate to the Michigan GOP party is going to Ron Paul and her is why. I think when dealing with people like this its best to act nice and explain yourself thoroughly with reason than be angry because the anger that's apparent in your letter will not make them think about what you wrote. That's just my opinion.

I'm C_T_CZ's spouse. Believe
I'm C_T_CZ's spouse. Believe me when I tell you...the first few letters we sent were nicer. No one took notice (or thought about what we wrote) & they kept sending requests for money. Perhaps THIS TIME with THIS TONE of letter, they will think about what we wrote. All I can tell you with certainty is nice doesn't work....
Great letter except you put I'm a Libertarian that swithced to..
As soon as he read those few first lines, I'm sure his eyes glazed over.
Delegates win.. Here's how.

Like he cares?
I bet he LOL. They don't want us, and that's why we are there anyways, standing firm with our candidate RON PAUL.
They want you to leave, get mad, tear up your card... hell they never gave me one, don't invite me to anything, they lie to my face, but that isn't going to stop me from being the biggest pain in their ass I can be, just by being there, smiling sweetly and saying "no", "no", "no", "no", Ummm "no", NO!, Nahuh"... "no no".. Gee, NO!
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
They want your money.
That is ALL!
Chris - The letter is spot on. I routinely return roughly the same sentiments back to them. Send them some RP push cards, etc. too! (But only if they are paying the postage back!)

So what, about what they want?
We want to be delegates so we can get Ron Paul the nomination. What are you are Chris doing about getting Ron Paul the nomination in Ron Paul's party of choice the GOP?
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
We all do what we can do
Hi Granger,
We all do what we can do. Here's one thing this election cycle I've done recently I'm pretty happy about:
http://www.dailypaul.com/211046/superbrochure-slimjim-great-...
I'm a long time supporter of Dr. Paul, very active in 3 meetups in Orange County California back in '07/'08. Here are some pictures I took from those meetups:
https://picasaweb.google.com/106584168581049856843/BestOfRon...
Those were some really great times indeed. I'm one of those "Dr. Paul Cured My Political Apathy" kinds of people.
When I moved to Holland Michigan and realized there was not a meetup group, I started one:
http://www.meetup.com/The-Holland-Ron-Paul-2012-Meetup-Group/
I visit the DailyPaul pretty often and I appreciate the kinds of comments you leave, they are always thoughtful. I realize this sort of letter may burn a bridge or two - but don't think it's the first one I've sent ;)
Ron Paul supporters rule and I was not anticipating all this feedback to this posting.
Thanks for letting me share my venting with you all.
Chris

Maybe you got a case of "burnout"?
The good news Chris, is the GOP doesn't take it personally, so you can start showing up to meetings and forget you wrote that ANGRY letter, because they forgot it already.
There are better ways to win then employing ANGER and self sacrifice, eh?
Note your own signature: "to pursue with steadiness..."
We are in a fight for our lives, now get back in that GOP, don't give them any money, don't even mention it, just get back in there and be a delegate!
Meet me in Tampa.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
I would have said most of that but..
I would have said most of that but would have left out the Libertarian party remarks.. You would have made him think about what you said.
I suspect he will have a giggle and continue his day.
