My old world view in ashes.. in its place - a beast. This is why I MUST vote for Ron Paul.
Submitted by Dave Makes Noise on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 21:33I wish i were so well-spoken that I could properly illustrate my world view. Then those who ridicule might understand. It would take many hundred pages and lots of time (politics is only a very small chunk of it) so it may never happen. Briefly, my world paradigm had been eroding for many years as I saw how quickly science was advancing, how things become obsolete over time, as I listened to politicians babble on about this or that new law or policy, as I turned on the news and listened to the latest garbage. If my world used to be a shiny silver statue, then as the surface layer slowly got eaten away by the constant barrage of deception, corruption, lies, greed, and war, it became apparent that underneath the glorious silver shell was something else entirely. Something not so silver and glorious.
I've always been critical of government and I always wondered as a kid why, if we live in a free country, are there so many things we're not allowed to do? Despite what many of my friends and family may think, I'm a critical thinker as well as a very creative thinker - although I can't deny that Ron Paul's message was instantly attractive given my eroding silver statue. When the message first resonated with me the statue flat out shattered and my old world view crumbled around me knees (to paraphrase Bob Dean) and what was left in its place was a dark, fluid monster whose hunger for control and power would never be sated.
After I heard Ron Paul speak I was compelled to learn more. I researched many histories, 2 schools of economics, several forms of government, federal law, business law.. all kinds of things. Not that I'm a doctor or anything, and not that I was trying to debunk Dr. Paul, nor was I trying to affirm his message. I just learned because I now had an interest in these things. The implications of what he was saying were far to great to dismiss as "loony" simply because they weren't anchored to the majority. They were far too great for me to remain uninformed. (I consider any who call him "loony" or "crazy" to be delusional and intentionally ignorant.)
Now, over in Reality, what I found after so long is that there are MANY reasons why I support this guy. Here are just a few. That eastern hatred of us is a result of our puppet dictators and military occupation of their holy land is very real. That, as a result of printing trillions of dollars, our cost of living is going up while our earning power remains the same and the buying power of our dollars is going down is very real. That our congress (and our presidency), both democrat and republican, is bought and owned by the super-rich is very real - and very dangerous.
Agree with him or disagree with him, Ron Paul is the only candidate who is willing to talk about these things - the real, core issues. No one else wants to talk about them because they are all a part of it. Their veins are their bank accounts and their blood runs green. He's not the tap-dancing, smooth talking, hollow promising, bigoted sound biter that all the rest are. (By "All the rest" I'm including Obama.)
I have to vote for him because he genuinely represents freedom, honesty, diplomacy, and transparency. To call him dangerous couldn't be farther from the truth. What's dangerous to me is the road we are currently on.
So we are at an impasse. Do we continue down this road of military interventionism or do we embrace the idea of diplomacy, trade, and peace? Do we continue to print money so that our government essentially has an endless supply or do we live within our means? Do we continue to have a congress and a president who represents the will of the big money groups who buy their votes or do we replace congress and the president with those who represent the individuals?
I'll help you to answer that - People in this country are suffering because of the bad choices made in Washington DC over the last century. Mistakes MUST be corrected.
Vote for The Doctor. Let the New American Revolution begin.
Shock To The System, 2012.

The title of this post gave me chills
Powerful!
Good post.
RP is the only choice.
There is no alternative.
I call it my WTF moment
I was working on an ambulace for AMR in Irwindale. I was just a regular guy, married, was an R.N., loved to go dirt bike riding, shoot guns and really didn't interest myself in politics. So back to my shift at Irwindale. We got back from a call that morning. I went into the station and everyone was watching this large T.V. We were in the process of invading Iraq. Not that I loved Iraq or was even anti-war but it struck me that there was no logic to this. I asked myself why are we doing this? 911 had nothing to do with Iraq. I just didn't get it. As trivial as it may seem it was a big deal for me. Maybe up until that time I accepted all the rationals and believed what my government said. A veil was lifted, I didn't believe the meme anymore. It was sobering and really altered my world view. having encountered a truth one can no longer believe in a lie.
Who did you support before Ron Paul?
Just curious?
I never paid attention to
I never paid attention to primaries before 2008.. i was a "lesser of 2 evils" voter.. hence Bush 2000, Bush 2004.. in 2008, i voted Obama in the democratic primary THEN i heard about Ron Paul and how he dropped out of the race.. in the general election of 2008, I ended up voting for Chuck Baldwin (I) because he was endorsed by Ron Paul.

Pardon Me Dave
But I think it is past time for you to let go of the story you are telling yourself of not being well spoken. Your care and belief leap off the page.
If am standing in line at a bank and you're behind me and I here you speak that way into your phone, I am turning around to hear more and ask questions.
Write more, and seek new outlets for it. Your voice is needed.
Thanks Bob. :) This was my
Thanks Bob. :) This was my first post here on DP. Perhaps I'll write more.

You haven't found the bottom of the rabbit hole yet.
You are still seeing chunks of shiny silver where there is only rottenness.
Some folks claim governments were first instituted to protect men from the barbarians who wanted to rob and enslave them. The truth is much darker. Governments have always been the winning barbarians, who settled down to rule over those they conquered, to systematically loot and enslave entire populations. As an American, you are not a free person; you are free-range cattle, whom your owners will milk and control no matter where in the world you wander.
Deep down the hole, you will learn that you are not enslaved by their threats (called "laws") -- you are enslaved by your own belief that they -- the men who call themselves "government" -- have a moral right to rule your life, and that you have a moral duty to obey them.
Ron Paul as President will not set you free from the chains on your own mind. He will not change the government to make us free. But he may teach us that we ARE free, by nature and by moral right, and end the superstition that some men have a right to rule others.
It's a deep rabbit hole, but the truth down at the bottom will set you free.
Read the reviews of this book -- then read the book. Go the rest of the way down.

Wecome Patriot!
Your post is awesome, thoughtful, and well articulated! You should consider writing for a career/hobby. Refreshing!
Not in the cards.. but thanks!
Well hey thanks, I appreciate that. I'd like to write more, but between two jobs (one full-time, and the other is my own business - see the link in my signature!), and working on my music, and my wife and 1 year old son.. i don't really have a lot of time for anything else. I wrote this bit actually as a comment on facebook, and it was so long that I figured hey, i'll make it my status update. Then whoa.. brilliant idea.. let's put it on DP! I'm very happy that it was well-received! :)
