Tim Berners-Lee Takes the Stand to Keep the Web Free

On Tim's stand :

Thank you, Tim.

WWW's your baby, anyway.

Suggestion to some others :

Maybe patent trolls, the gov, AND congress could FINALLY take some time to have a look at what they are supposed to have educated themselves with, before thinking to destroy HIS and OUR legacy ?

They could start with this :

http://www.w3.org/History/

Or, more specifically, e.g. :

http://www.w3.org/History/1989/proposal.html

Quoting :

"Conclusion

We should work toward a universal linked information system, in which generality and portability are more important than fancy graphics techniques and complex extra facilities.

The aim would be to allow a place to be found for any information or reference which one felt was important, and a way of finding it afterwards. The result should be sufficiently attractive to use that it the information contained would grow past a critical threshold, so that the usefulness the scheme would in turn encourage its increased use.

The passing of this threshold accelerated by allowing large existing databases to be linked together and with new ones."

Now, back on congress et al. :

isn't it a common saying that "idiots are dangerous, in large numbers" ?

I say :

Well, actually, they are ALSO especially dangerous in SMALL numbers when their prerogatives are definitely NOT in their thinking ballpark -- which, among other things, implies a reasonable minimal amount of FORESIGHT.
