My head would explode if I tried to decide between these 2 great bands. I think I have more of a broader taste for the Pixies, but the Sonic Youth songs I do like really hit home.

Fugazi!

Grew up on Minor Threat (!!!!:-)!!!), and Fugazi were a natural progression.

Here in San Diego, Rocket From the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, etc. carried that mantle well too.

I had to respond to this just because it's so random and off topic that it made me laugh, and I also love both of these bands.

I'd have to say Pixies if forced to choose. But it's not really even fair to ask someone to choose.

(I saw The Pixies live a few years ago when they reunited and toured. It was a joyful experience. I've never seen Sonic Youth live, except on YouTube.)
