Ron Paul: the most rare sort of individual in human history
Submitted by Shamus_McMises on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 02:15In 458 BC a man named Cincinnatus was called upon to assume dictatorial responsibilities to lead his country (Rome) through a time of war. Once the war was over he humbly and immediately stepped down and handed his powers back to the republic. What would seem like a such a simple act may possibly be the most rare and precious act of selflessness in all of human history. Today, with the incredible amount of power that has been centralized in Washington, it is no wonder that all candidates do not differ much from each other or the current president in their policy goals. What should astonish us is that we even have a single person that is even morally capable, as Dr Paul, to deny himself the executive authorities of the American aristocracy. Praxeology would tell us that even if one of the other Republican candidates changed positions and took a strict constitutional stance on every issue for the rest of the campaign that he would still, without question, fall pray to his own desire for power once voted into office and not accomplish real strides toward bringing government back within the confines of the constitution. Please think about the fact that in 1913 congress voted to create the federal reserve bank, and also ratified the 16th amendment giving the federal government authority over the fruit of every single American's income. We could go all the way back to Alexander Hamilton, George Washington's treasury secretary, who first used the implied powers of congress to create the first American national bank in 1791. Hamilton's bank created economic problems for the early Americans and stood as an example of how an ambitious administration could(and they did) get around the constitution and grant themselves a source of tremendous power. But did any more constitutionally minded administrations ratify an amendment to stop the creation of a future central bank once the charter ran out on Hamiton's bank? Or did the great depression, the 1971 default as a result of America getting off the gold standard, the 2007 crash of the housing bubble, a national debt greater than our GDP, or unfunded liabilities reaching over 62 trillion dollars ever lead to contemplation that the nationalized paradigm set in 1913 might need to be reversed? No! Because power never gets returned once it is given away! Today we have an idividual that has possibly the most proven constitutional record in congressional history running a presidential race as a contender. The fact of the matter is that if Dr Paul had any blemishes on his record that could be even percieved as anything more than circumstantial misinterpretations of his principles in all of his twelve terms in congress than any wishes of retrieving the rights that are entitled to us in the constitution would be little more than a starry eyed dream. But there are no blemishes! We all get to witness our political establishment scrambling to dig up some piece of dirt on a man that is beyond reproach while a movement that feeds off of humanity's basic desires for life and liberty gains traction. Take it in because we live in unprecedented times.
