Little Ricky and CPAC

I heard that Rick is all of the "buzz" at CPAC. It's loaded (more than 50%) with young voters who are VERY excited about Ricky. Huh? I doubt that. I hope they are all there to vote for the good doctor!

Put 'em up Santorum,

Our bet is on the Silver Haired Fox...
Statesman to the People
Champion of the Constitution

Rick Santorum is

a superchristian reincarnated George W. Bush.

Indeed...

G.W. Bush minus the redeeming quality of being a useful idiot who would probably be fun to drink with...Santorum would be the guy who narcs you out for smoking a joint.

Reagan On Libertarianism

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

---Ronald Reagan, Reason Magazine

Leland Thomas Faegre

I came up with an argument

I came up with an argument the other day while debating a Christian who was a Santorum supporter and I think it could help in bringing some of them over to our side.

God is a Libertarian. He gave us all free will to do as we choose as long as it does not cause harm to others or take their property. He believes in property rights and that all men are created equal and should treat each other as such without separating people into groups with special priveliges. He believes in personal responsibility for our actions and the following consequences of them to allow us to do things that may not be good for us. God believes in the rule of law and that the laws remain just and fair. He does not like when people manipulate money at the expense of others as when Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple. He believes that hard work and a good life will bring happiness to the largest amount of people but realizes that some will fall through the cracks and it is no ones fault but their own. He believes in charity and goodwill towards all people. He does not believe in building empires or conquering nations but rather has a non-interventionist frame of mind that you may fight in self-defense only but that friendship should be your way of thinking. Finally he believes in limited oversight and regulation as there are only 10 rules instead of thousands to follow and he only gets involved when its absolutely necessary.

If you bring up this argument I believe that it will get them thinking at the very least and just may get them to give Dr. Paul a second look.

Santorum has a better chance of beating Obama

than Newt or Mitt. Romney really only appeals to upper-class moderates and Newt doesn't really have a base. I really think if Santorum got the nomination he would have a much better chance of winning the rust belt states against Obama than either Newt or Mitt. You guys are seriously underestimating Santorum. If someone would have told y'all a month ago that he would win Colorado and Minnesota, y'all would have laughed. Well, he did. Santorum may be a hardcore Neocon on foregin policy, but he knows how to win elections.

No way

Santorum is running on a George W. nostalgia platform, and as such has zero chance of drawing independents and democrats in a general election. Obama would steamroll Santorum with his billion dollar campaign. Santorum has nothing to say about the economy: his two issues are (1) stopping the gays and (2) murdering Muslims. At this moment in history, who could that possibly appeal to beyond the Evangedrones currently swarming caucuses in his support? They represent the most motivated voting bloc (sadly) in low-turnout primaries, but not the general electorate.

You seem to be out of touch with reality

1. Most Americans don't consider it murder to drop a bomb on Iran and cripple them economically and militarily. You've got to remember they're being fed anti-Iran propaganda non-stop 24/7. OBAMA is thinking of helping to bomb Iran. Do you really think having a Republican warhawk running against a Democrat warhawk is going to hurt the Republican? 2. "stopping the gays" What does that mean? What exactly do you think Santorum is wanting to stop the "gays" from doing? - being gay? With this economy the way it is, I don't think Independents are going to be basing their votes on whether or not the Republican nominee thinks gay = cool or not.

And why did Obama beat McCain

And why did Obama beat McCain so soundly in 2008? People were sick of the wars. And like Santorum today, more war was all McCain was selling.

I do not doubt that Obama is willing and ready to bomb Iran. Worse still, many of the anti-war voting bloc that supported him in 2008 will stay on board out of allegiance to Blue Team. But if you think that Obama will actively run as a hawk in light of all of the broken promises that got him elected, you're the one who's out of touch with reality. Without doubt, Obama will run for reelection as the peace candidate while pretending his horrible record and lies don't exist. And if his opposition is Santorum -- whose main policy platform is starting a war with Iran -- Obama will still be the peace candidate, as ridiculous as that notion may be. Most Americans may not considering bombing Iranians as equivalent to murder, but it does not follow that they will support someone who is *guaranteeing* another war!

As far as what "stopping the gays" means, I'm hoping that you can tell me what Santorum is planning to do about them. Because I'm not even sure what he's on about, besides being clearly upset about them and the threat they pose to "The Family". And he's also unabashedly for using government force to compel people to live moral lives. So, I don't know what he has planned for gays, but I wouldn't put anything past him.

With that said, you missed my point by dwelling on Santorum's intentions: Santorum has crafted his central campaign message around a preoccupation with gays and who they marry, and this will certainly alienate Dems, Indies and many non-primary voting Republicans who are desperate for jobs and economic growth.

So, again, Santorum would get utterly annihilated by Obama because his top issues are instigating an Iran War and concern about the gay "problem", while he has nothing to say about out-of-control spending and the economic calamity we're facing. Hell, Santorum has straight up said that he won't lower taxes or reign in spending. Dr. Paul can beat Obama precisely because his positions are the reverse of Santorum's. Hence, if Ron is the best bet to beat Obama, Santorum is the worst.

Santorum to Everyone, and Everyone's Response

Santorum to Everyone:

“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I am aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

Everyone to Santorum:

The moral and constitutional obligations of our representatives in Washington are to protect our liberty, not coddle the world, precipitating no-win wars, while bringing bankruptcy and economic turmoil to our people. - Ron Paul

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it. – Thomas Jefferson

Liberty is not a means to a political end. It is itself the highest political end. – Lord Acton

Liberty is the only thing you cannot have unless you are willing to give it to others. – William Allen White

The saddest epitaph which can be carved in memory of a vanished liberty is that it was lost because its possessors failed to stretch forth a saving hand while yet there was time. – Justice George Sutherland

Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it. – George Bernard Shaw

The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. – John Stuart Mill, On Liberty (1859)

Left-wing politicians take away your liberty in the name of children and of fighting poverty, while right-wing politicians do it in the name of family values and fighting drugs. Either way, government gets bigger and you become less free. – Harry Browne

I fear for our nation. Nearly half of our people receive some kind of government subsidy. We have grown weak from too much affluence and too little adversity. I fear that soon we will not be able to defend our country from our sure and certain enemies. We have debased our currency to the point that even the most loyal citizen no longer trusts it. – A Roman Senator in A.D. 63

Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government's purposes are beneficial … the greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding. – Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, 1928

The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. – Ayn Rand

This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector. – Plato circa 400 B.C

There is only one kind of freedom and that's individual liberty. Our lives come from our creator and our liberty comes from our creator. It has nothing to do with government granting it. - Ron Paul

Patrick Henry did not say, "Give me absolute safety or give me death." – John Stossel, ABC News journalist

There's no greater service to this country than the defense of its freedom. – Senator Barry Goldwater

For libertarians, freedom entails the right of people to live their lives any way they choose, so long as their conduct is peaceful. For conservatives, freedom entails the right of government to do just about anything it wants, even if its conduct is violent. – Jacob Hornberger

The only freedom which deserves the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. – John Stuart Mill

It must be obvious that liberty necessarily means freedom to choose foolishly as well as wisely; freedom to choose evil as well as good; freedom to enjoy the rewards of good judgment, and freedom to suffer the penalties of bad judgment. If this is not true, the word "freedom" has no meaning. – Ben Moreell

It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon a supposition that he may abuse it. – Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), Address, First Protectorate Parliament, 1654

Freedom is not a luxury that we can indulge in when at last we have security and prosperity and enlightenment; it is, rather, antecedent to all of these, for without it we can have neither security nor prosperity nor enlightenment. – Henry Steele Commager

It is not the function of our Government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error. – Robert H. Jackson

To argue against any breach of liberty from the ill use that may be made of it, is to argue against liberty itself, since all is capable of being abused. – Lord George Lyttleton (1709-1773)

A man's liberties are none the less aggressed upon because those who coerce him do so in the belief that he will be benefited. – Herbert Spencer (1820-1903), Social Statics, 1850

From the fact that people are very different it follows that, if we treat them equally, the result must be inequality in their actual position, and the only way to place them in an equal position would be to treat them differently. Equality before the law and material equality are therefore not only different but are in conflict with each other; and we can achieve either the one or the other, but not both at the same time. – Friedrich von Hayek

Democracy is not a system of liberty, but a form of tyranny: the tyranny of the majority. – Robert Garmong

Our country's founders cherished liberty, not democracy. – US House Congressional Resolution 48 "A Republic; not a Democracy", sponsored by Ron Paul, 3/6/01.

"Our part is to pursue with steadiness what is right, turning neither to right nor left for the intrigues or popular delusions of the day, assured that the public approbation will in the end be with us."
-Thomas Jefferson

Me to Santorum: "Bite me."

.

By slick Rick saying this he garners the support of the dieing

Neo conservatives, whose numbers are decreasing as our numbers are increasing. Like Juan Williams said last night on Freedom Watch, Rick is so principled against Libertarians he chooses to loose the election over it...lol

Rick has as much of a chance at the White House as Bush running for re-election. What he says only makes him look dumber than he really is, and that is stretching things. In all fairness I think it is good that Santorum is honest and does not see principles in liberty or freedom, because I feel the same way about him, and I am sure many of my friends here do as well. Bottom line Rick has done himself in, and though he has played a roll in our success, he will fade into history, hopefully never to be heard from again.

Laura Ingraham just announced...

that sweater vest is clearly the front runner now.

God help us!!!!!

I'm sick! Don't usually listen to Laura but I was just bringing my mom to the post office and heard this on the radio.

We have to fight, and fight, and fight for Dr. Paul. This country is a mess.

Tough Guy Rick

Is that so, Ricky?
So far you haven't even had the balls to mention Ron Paul's name, and had nothing to say to him in the debates.

That's one hell of a great fight you put up so far, keep it up little man!!

that santa may be able to make a play to get Ron's young voters hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The article is half-retarded.

There IS no Libertarian argument for Rick Santorum.

In fact the question itself is retarded.

Santorum is actually the most anti-Libertarian running on the republican side.

Only if Libertarians support Big-Government, Neo-Con, government-meddling-in-our-social-lives ideals could you make a case for Rick Santorum as their choice.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I could see one benefit from nominating Santorum

He would lose by such a huge margin that social "conservatism" (authoritarianism) would be discredited -- maybe militarism too. Other than that, it's just a total disaster.

And can you believe the CATO

And can you believe the CATO Institute would have us believe that Santorum is the best candidate for libertarians.

Yeah, you read that right!

Give CATO and John Samples a piece of your mind.

Well he basically wants Frothy on the GOp ticket

so he can get crushed by Obama, destroying all that is vile (embodied by Frothy) in the GOP. A renewal by destruction if you will...

corrupt Neocon influence in the party.

The country was founded by Libertarians!

Why do people treat it like a dirty word?

Hell George Washington WARNED AGAINST political parties like Republican and Democrat.

I wonder why?

Maybe because America's best interests would be forced to take a back seat to party loyalties and power cells?

Really we have one "Big Government" Party with two divisions.

The Liberal "Welfare" division and the Conservative "Warfare" division.
Both have brought America to the brink of disaster.

We need to live by our Founding Principles or we will perish as a free and prosperous nation.

We ARE PERISHING!

Amen!

I'm trying to convert my elderly neighbor and this argument seems to have worked on him. He was torn between Frothy and Getinrich - but after this (friendly) argument he's been asking more Ron Paul questions- and seems happy with the answers.

Funny story...
I was showing him(my neighbor) the youtube video of Newt saying the Palestinians are an invented people and my 10 year old son walked by, listened for a minute got really mad and said, "Hey, we're not an invented people"...He thought Newt said Paulistians--my neighbor and I just fell over laughing.

Im a

LOL

That is a funny story! Love it!

Sorry, Frothy
